WR400 Owner’s Manual

Quick Start Instructions

1. Pull out the antenna and extend it to its full length.

2. Insert 4 AA batteries (not included).

3. Plug the AC adapter into the POWER jack on the back of the radio and the other end into a standard wall outlet.

4. When powered on for the first time the weather radio will go into the setup mode.

Setting the Time

1. Press the MENU button.

2. The display should show SET TIME , press ENTER.

3. Press ▲ or ▼ to set the hour, then press the ► button to toggle to setting the minutes. After setting the minutes press ENTER .

4. Press the MENU button to save the settings and exit the menu.

Note : the AM and PM icons in the upper left corner of the LCD.

Setting the Alarm


2. Press ▲ or ▼ until the display says SET ALARM 1 , then press ENTER .

3. Press ▲ or ▼ until the correct hour is set, then press the ► button to toggle to setting the minutes. After setting the minutes press ENTER .

4. Press the ▲ or ▼arrows to turn alarm on or off, then press ENTER .

5. If you only want to have one alarm set then press the MENU button to save your settings and exit the menu. If you want to set the 2nd alarm then press the ▼ arrow until you get to the SET ALARM 2 option.

6. Follow the same instructions for setting ALARM 2 as you did for ALARM

1 .

7. Slide the ALARM SWITCH on the right side of the radio to the ON position to make your alarms active.

Choosing the Alarm Type


2. Press the ▲ or ▼ arrows until the display says ALARM TYPE then, press

ENTER .

3. Press the ▲ or ▼ arrows to select either wake to RADIO or wake to

BUZZER , then press ENTER .

Note: If you select wake to RADIO , the alarm will come on to the last radio station tuned to on the AM/FM band.

4. Press the MENU button to save your settings and exit the menu.

2. Press the ▲ or ▼ arrows until the display says SET CHANNEL , then press ENTER .

3. Press the ▲ or ▼ arrows to scroll to your desired weather channel, then press ENTER .


Turning the Weather Radio On and Off

When you exit the menu the weather radio will automatically turn on. If you want to turn it off press and hold the WEATHER/HAZARD button until the

NOAA icon disappears on the display. You will not be able to listen to the weather radio or receive any alerts with the weather radio turned off. To turn the weather radio on press and hold the WEATHER/HAZARD button until the NOAA icon appears on the display.



Setting Your Location


2. Press the ▲ or ▼ arrows until the display says SET LOCATION , then press ENTER .

3. You now have the option of choosing between ANY , MULTIPLE , and

SINGLE using the ▲ or ▼ arrows, then press ENTER .

4. If ANY is selected your radio will receive all weather alerts and you will be unable to select a specific county. Press the MENU button to save your settings and exit the menu.

5. If MULTIPLE or SINGLE were selected then you will be asked to input your specific location and the display will show 01 EMPTY . Press ENTER to input your country. Press the ▲ or ▼ arrows to scroll to your selection then press ENTER . You will now be asked for your state. Press the ▲ or ▼ arrows to scroll to your selection then press ENTER . You will now have a list of counties to choose from. Press the ▲ or ▼ arrows to scroll to your selection then press ENTER . If you selected SINGLE for your location press the MENU button to save your settings and exit the menu.

6. If you selected MULTIPLE for your location you will be taken to the next county entry 02 EMPTY . Press the ENTER button. You now have the option of selecting NEARBY . This gives you the option of having the radio automatically populate your selected county entry with the next closest county code. If you want to manually enter your county, press the

▲ or ▼ arrows to select your country and repeat the steps necessary for selecting your county, the press MENU .

2. Press the ▲ or ▼ arrows until the display says SET LOCATION , then press ENTER .

3. You now have the option of choosing between ANY , MULTIPLE , and

SINGLE . If you want to program a single county code then select

SINGLE . If you want to program multiple county codes then select

MULTIPLE . If ANY is selected as your location your radio will receive all weather alerts and you will be unable to program a specific county code. Press ▲ or ▼ until you have reached your selection then press

ENTER .

4. Press ► and you will now be able to input your 6 digit S.A.M.E. code.

Press ▲ or ▼ to change the digit that is flashing on the screen. Press ► to go to the next digit to the right, then press ENTER .

5. If you selected SINGLE for your location press the MENU button 3 times to save your settings and exit the menu. If you selected MULTIPLE for your location you can now enter more S.A.M.E. codes.

6. Press the ▲ arrow to go to the next county code programming location and press the ► arrow. Repeat the steps for programming your 6 digit

S.A.M.E code.

7. When you are done manually entering your S.A.M.E. county codes press the MENU button 4 times to save your settings and exit the menu.



Choosing an Alert Type


2. Press the ▲ or ▼ arrows until the display says ALERT TYPE , then press

ENTER .

3. You now have the option of choosing between VOICE , TONE , and

DISPLAY . VOICE will sound an alert for 8 seconds followed by the weather broadcast. TONE will sound an alert siren. DISPLAY will scroll alert text on the display and no audible alert siren will be heard.

4. Press the ▲ or ▼ arrows to make you selection then press ENTER .

5. Press the MENU button to save your settings and exit the MENU .

2. Press the ▲ or ▼ arrows until the display says SET EVENTS . Press the

ENTER button.

3. You now have the option of choosing between ALL ON , ALL OFF , or ALL

DEFAULT , or EDIT EVENTS . ALL ON will set all events to on, and ALL

OFF will set all events to off except for the ones with an asterisk next to them in the Selectable Alert Reference Chart.

4. To edit individual events press the ▲ or ▼ arrows until the display says

EDIT EVENTS and press the ENTER button. Scroll through the events and press the ENTER button when you reach the event you want to edit.

You can select either ON or OFF then press ENTER .

5. Press the MENU button twice to save your settings and exit the menu.

**Not all alerts are selectable. Non-selectable alerts do not appear on display screen.

Testing the Alert Siren

1. To test the alert function to ensure it is working, press the MENU button.

2. Press the ▲ or ▼ arrows until the display says ALERT TEST . Press the

ENTER button. The alert siren will sound.

3. Press the ENTER button again to silence the alert siren.

4. Press the MENU button to exit the menu.

Reviewing Alerts

The WR400 weather radio can store up to 10 different alerts in its memory.

If the radio receives a new alert while a previous alert is still in effect, it automatically displays the new alert message. To review past alerts that are still in effect, press the▼ arrow to scroll through them. The AM/FM radio must be off to review alerts. If you are in AM/FM mode, press and hold the AM/FM button for 1 second to turn it off or press the WEATHER/HAZARD button to switch to the weather band. You can now review alerts in memory.



Test Signals Broadcast by NWS

All National Weather Service stations periodically transmit test signals. You can find out when your local NWS station broadcasts test signals by calling the NOAA National Weather Service Forecast Office. During the weekly test signal, the local NWS station will give a list of counties covered by their transmitter. The NWS test signal allows everyone with weather radio receivers to verify the operation of their equipment.

The following test signals may be sent by the NWS during testing:

REQUIRED WEEKLY TEST , REQUIRED MONTHLY TEST , SYSTEM

DEMO , and NATIONAL PERIODIC TEST.

No Reception Warning

If no alerts are received for 10 days, the display will flash CHECK

RECEPTION every 30 seconds. If this happens, check your channel settings and county codes for setting errors. If you receive a clear signal from the NWS, try using the ALL county code setting to receive all alerts for all counties.

Note: If you have trouble finding reception, please move your radio closer to a window and away from fluorescent lighting.

AM/FM Radio

There is an AM/FM radio built into the WR400 that you can listen to without interrupting the weather radio functions. If an alert is received, the WR400 automatically switches from the AM/FM radio to the weather radio alert.

Turning the AM/FM Radio On and Off

To turn the AM/FM radio on, press the AM/FM button. If you are listening to the weather band, you must first mute the weather band by pressing the

WEATHER/HAZARD button. To turn the AM/ FM radio off, press and hold the AM/FM button for 1 second. Pressing the AM/FM button while already in AM/FM mode will toggle between the AM and FM bands.

Tuning the AM/FM Radio

To tune the AM/FM radio you can manually tune the stations by pressing either the ▲ or ▼ arrows. Pressing and holding the ▲ or ▼ arrows will quickly scroll through stations until you release the button. To scan automatically to the next station that has a strong signal, press the ◄ or

► arrow.



Setting the AM/FM Preset Stations

You can program 4 AM and 4 FM radio stations into the radio’s preset memory.

To program a preset station, do the following:

1. Turn the AM/FM radio on and use the tuning buttons to find your desired station.

2. Press and hold the preset button you want to program for 1 second. If beeps are enabled, the radio will beep confirming the station has been saved to the desired preset. There will also be an indicator on the display that corresponds with the preset setting; “P1,” “P2,” “P3,” or “P4.”

Button Beeps

1. To turn the button beeps off press the MENU button.

2. Press the ▲ or ▼ arrows until the display says BUTTON BEEPS , then press ENTER .

3. You now have the option of turning the button beeps either ▲ or ▼.

If you want to disable the button beeps select OFF then press the ENTER button.


Backlight Dimmer

The backlight brightness on the WR400 can be adjusted in the menu from levels 1 to 10 with 10 being the brightest.

1. To adjust the backlight dimmer setting press the MENU button.

2. Press the ▲ or ▼ arrows until the display says BACKLIGHT . Press the

ENTER button.

3. You now have the option of selecting between backlight levels 1 to 10.

Scroll to your selection using the ▲ or ▼ arrows then press the ENTER button.

4. Press the MENU button to save your settings and exit the menu. Now when you press the backlight dimmer button, the LCD backlight will dim to your chosen brightness setting.



Troubleshooting

Problem Suggestion

No power

No sound

Make sure the AC Power Adapter is securely plugged into both the DC jack on the back of the weather radio and into the wall outlet. Make sure batteries are installed in case AC power fails.

Check VOLUME control to ensure volume is turned up to an audible level.

No weather broadcast when you press

WEATHER/ SNOOZE button

Ensure that the telescoping antenna is up and fully extended.

If you are using an external antenna, ensure that it is connected properly.

Ensure that the radio is set to the NWS weather channel in use in your area.

Contact NWS to ensure they are presently broadcasting.

If in a metal structure, make sure you are close to a window.

If in a weak signal area, you will need an external antenna.

The radio is not responding properly to NWS weather alert broadcasts

Check to see that you have programmed in the correct S.A.M.E. County

Code(s).

Check with the NWS that the tower is broadcasting.

OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, SHALL BE LIMITED AS SET

Régler l’heure

1. Appuyez sur le bouton MENU .

2. L’écran devrait afficher RÉGLER L’HEURE , appuyez sur SÉLECTIONNER.

3. Appuyez sur ▲ ou ▼ pour régler l’heure, et ensuite appuyez sur la touche ► pour basculer au réglage des minutes. Après avoir réglé les minutes, appuyez sur SÉLECTIONNER .

4. Appuyez sur la touche MENU pour sauvegarder vos réglages et quitter le menu de configuration.

Remarque : les icônes AM et PM sont affichées dans le coin supérieur gauche de l’écran ACL.

Régler l’alarme

1. Appuyez sur le bouton MENU .

2. Appuyez sur ▲ ou ▼jusqu’à ce que l’écran affiche RÉGLER L’ALARME 1 , puis appuyez sur SÉLECTIONNER .

3. Appuyez sur ▲ ou ▼ jusqu’à ce que l’heure actuelle s’affiche, et ensuite appuyez sur la touche ► pour basculer au réglage des minutes. Après avoir réglé les minutes, appuyez sur SÉLECTIONNER .

4. Appuyez sur les flèches ▲ ou ▼pour activer ou désactiver l’alarme, et ensuite appuyez sur SÉLECTIONNER .

6. Si vous avez choisi MULTIPLE comme emplacement, vous accéderez au réglage pour le pays suivant dans 02 EMPTY . Appuyez sur la touche

4. Appuyez sur les flèches ▲ ou ▼ pour sélectionner celle que vous désirez, puis appuyez sur SÉLECTIONNER .

Tester la sirène d’alerte

1. Pour tester la fonction d’alerte et s’assurer qu’elle fonctionne, appuyez sur la touche MENU .

LES ALERTES . Appuyez ensuite sur SÉLECTIONNER . La sirène d’alerte retentira.

3. Appuyez encore une fois sur SÉLECTIONNER pour stopper la sirène d’alerte.

4. Appuyez sur la touche MENU pour quitter le menu.

Passer en revue les alertes

La radio-météo WR400 peut stocker 10 alertes différentes dans sa mémoire. Si la radio reçoit une nouvelle alerte alors qu’une alerte précédente est toujours en vigueur, elle affiche automatiquement la nouvelle description d’alerte. Pour revoir les anciennes alertes qui sont toujours en vigueur, appuyez sur la flèche▼ pour les faire défiler. La radio AM/FM radio doit être éteinte pour passer les alertes en revue. Si vous êtes en mode AM/FM mode, appuyez et maintenez le bouton AM/

FM pendant 1 seconde pour l’éteindre et appuyez sur le bouton MÉTÉO/DANGER pour passer à la bande météo. Vous pouvez alors revoir les alertes mémorisées.

Signaux de tests diffusés par NWS

Toutes les stations du Service de météorologie nationale transmettent périodiquement des signaux de test. Vous pouvez savoir quand votre station locale de NWS diffuse des signaux de test par le NOAA National Weather Service Forecast

Office. Pendant le signal de test hebdomadaire, la station locale de NWS donnera une liste des comtés couverts par leur émetteur. Le signal de test de NWS permet

à chacun avec des récepteurs de radio météo à vérifier le fonctionnement de leur

équipement.

Les signaux d’essai suivants peuvent être envoyés par le NWS au cours des tests : LE TEST HEBDOMADAIRE REQUIS , LE TEST MENSUEL REQUIS , LA

DÉMONSTRATION DU SYSTÈME , et un TEST PÉRIODIQUE NATIONAL.

AVERTISSEMENT D’AUCUNE RÉCEPTION

Si aucune alerte n’est reçue pendant 10 jours, l’affichage clignote CHECK

RECEPTION (VÉRIFIER RÉCEPTION) toutes les 30 secondes. Si cela se produit, vérifiez vos paramètres de canal et codes du comté pour corriger les erreurs. Si vous recevez un signal clair de NWS, essayez d’utiliser le réglage de code de comté

ALL (TOUT) pour recevoir toutes les alertes pour tous les comtés.

Remarque : Si vous avez des difficultés à trouver la réception, veuillez déplacer votre radio plus près d’une fenêtre et à l’écart de l’éclairage fluorescent.

Radio AM/FM

Il y a une radio AM/FM intégrée à la radio-météo WR400 afin que vous puissiez l’écouter sans interrompre les fonctions de la radio météo. Si une alerte est reçue, l’appareil passe automatiquement de la radio AM/FM à l’alerte radio météo.



A llumer/éteindre la radio AM/FM

Pour allumer la radio AM/FM radio, appuyez sur la touche AM/FM . Si vous écoutiez la radio-météo, vous devez d’abord désactiver le volume de la bande météo en appuyant sur le bouton MÉTÉO/DANGER . Pour éteindre la radio AM/FM, maintenez enfoncée la touche BANDE AM/FM pendant 1 seconde. Si vous appuyez sur la touche AM/FM lorsque vous êtes déjà en mode AM/FM mode, vous alternerez entre les bandes AM et

FM.

Régler la radio AM/FM

Pour régler la radio AM/FM, vous pouvez syntoniser les stations manuellement en appuyant sur les flèches ▲ ou ▼ . En appuyant et maintenant enfoncées les flèches

▲ ou ▼ , vous ferez rapidement défiler les stations jusqu’à ce que vous relâchiez le bouton. Pour rechercher automatiquement la prochaine station qui émet un signal assez puissant, appuyez sur la flèche ◄ ou ► . Mémoriser des stations AM/FM

Vous pouvez programmer 4 stations AM et 4 stations FM dans la mémoire de la radio. Pour programmer un préréglage de station, suivez ces étapes :

1. Allumez la radio AM/FM et utilisez les boutons de syntonisation pour trouver la station désirée.

2. Appuyez sur le bouton Preset (Présélection) que vous voulez programmer et maintenez-le enfoncé pendant 1 seconde. Si les bips sonores sont activés, la radio émettra un bip pour confirmer que la station a été enregistrée dans la présélection choisie. Il y aura aussi une indication affichée à l’écran avec le réglage de présélection; « P1 », « P2 », « P3 » ou « P4 ».

3. Pour désactiver les bips de bouton, appuyez sur la touche MENU .



5. Vous pouvez ajuster le volume des bips à l’aide des flèches ▲ ou ▼.

Si vous voulez désactiver les bips de bouton, choisissez OFF , puis appuyez sur la touche SÉLECTIONNER .


Gradateur de rétroéclairage

La luminosité du rétroéclairage du WR400 peut être ajustée à l’aide du menu. Les niveaux vont de 1 à 10, 10 étant la plus forte luminosité.

1. Pour ajuster le gradateur du rétroéclairage, appuyez sur la touche MENU .

2. Appuyez sur les flèches ▲ ou ▼ jusqu’à ce que l’écran affiche BACKLIGHT

(RÉTROÉCLAIRAGE). Appuyez ensuite sur SÉLECTIONNER .

3. Vous pouvez maintenant choisir les niveaux de rétroéclairage de 1 à 10.

Faites défiler les choix à l’aide des flèches ▲ ou ▼ , puis appuyez sur

SÉLECTIONNER .

4. Appuyez sur la touche MENU pour sauvegarder vos réglages et quitter le menu de configuration. Désormais, lorsque vous appuyez sur le bouton du gradateur de rétroéclairage, le rétroéclairage de l’écran ACL s’ajustera selon la luminosité que vous aurez choisie.

Encendido y apagado de la radio meteorológica

Cuando salga del menú, la radio meteorológica se encenderá automáticamente. Si desea apagarla, oprima y mantenga oprimido el botón WEATHER/HAZARD (Clima/Peligro) hasta que el ícono de la NOAA desaparezca de la pantalla. TONE (Tono) hará sonar una sirena. DISPLAY (En pantalla) hará que una alerta de texto se desplace en la pantalla y no se oirá ninguna sirena sonora.

(Intro) .

Repaso de las alertas

La radio meteorológica WR400 puede almacenar hasta 10 alertas diferentes en su memoria. Si la radio recibe una nueva alerta mientras todavía está vigente una alerta previa, el nuevo mensaje de alerta aparecerá automáticamente en la pantalla. Para repasar alertas pasadas todavía vigentes, oprima la flecha ▼ para recorrerlas. Para poder repasar las alertas, la radio AM/FM debe estar apagada. Si está en el modo AM/FM, mantenga oprimido el botón AM/FM durante 1 segundo para apagarlo, o bien oprima el botón WEATHER/HAZARD (Clima/peligro) para cambiar a la banda meteorológica. Ahora podrá repasar las alertas en la memoria.

Transmisión de señales de prueba del Sistema Meteorológico Nacional

(NWS)

Todas las estaciones del Sistema Meteorológico Nacional transmiten señales de prueba periódicamente. Puede averiguar cuándo transmite las señales de prueba su estación local del NWS llamando a la Oficina de Pronósticos del Sistema

Meteorológico Nacional de la NOAA. Durante la señal de prueba semanal, la estación local del NWS dará una lista de los condados que cubre su transmisor. La señal de prueba del NWS permite a todas las personas con un receptor de radio meteorológica verificar el buen funcionamiento de su equipo.

Durante la prueba, es posible que el NWS envíe las siguientes señales de prueba:

ALERTA DE FALTA DE RECEPCIÓN

Si no se reciben alertas durante 10 días, la pantalla parpadeará con el texto

CHECK RECEPTION (Verificar recepción) cada 30 segundos. Si esto ocurre, verifique los ajustes de su canal y los códigos de condado en busca de errores. Si recibe una señal clara del NWS, intente usar el ajuste de códigos de condado ALL

(Todas) para recibir todas las alertas de todos los condados.

Nota: Si tiene dificultades para encontrar recepción, mueva la radio más cerca de una ventana y lejos de luces fluorescentes.

Radio AM/FM

La radio WR400 cuenta con una radio AM/FM incorporada que puede escuchar sin interrumpir las funciones de radio meteorológica. En caso de recibir una alerta, la WR400 cambia automáticamente del modo de radio AM/FM a la alerta de radio meteorológica.

Encendido y apagado de la radio AM/FM

Para encender la radio AM/FM, oprima el botón AM/FM . Si está escuchando la banda meteorológica, primero debe silenciarla oprimiendo el botón WEATHER/

HAZARD (Clima/Peligro) . Para apagar la radio AM/ FM, mantenga oprimido el botón AM/FM durante 1 segundo. Oprimir el botón AM/FM mientras está en el modo AM/FM cambiará entre las bandas AM y FM.

Sintonización de la radio AM/FM

Puede sintonizar manualmente las estaciones de radio AM/FM al oprimir las flechas

▲ o ▼. Mantenga oprimidas las flechas ▲ o ▼ para recorrer rápidamente las estaciones hasta que suelte el botón. Para explorar automáticamente hasta la siguiente estación que tenga una señal fuerte, oprima la flecha ◄ o ► .

Cómo establecer las estaciones predeterminadas de la radio AM/FM

Puede programar 4 estaciones de radio AM y 4 FM en la memoria de botones predeterminados de la radio. Para programar una estación predeterminada:

1. Encienda la radio AM/FM y utilice los botones de sintonización para encontrar la estación deseada.

2. Mantenga oprimido el botón predeterminado que desee programar durante

1 segundo. Si los pitidos están habilitados, la radio sonará un pitido para confirmar que la estación se guardó en el botón predeterminado deseado.

También habrá un indicador en la pantalla que corresponde con el ajuste de predeterminados; “P1”, “P2”, “P3” o “P4.”

5. Ahora tendrá la opción de seleccionar entre ▲ o ▼ para los pitidos de los botones. Si desea desactivar los pitidos de los botones, seleccione OFF

(Apagado) y luego oprima el botón ENTER (Intro) .




Atenuador de luminosidad de la retroiluminación

La luminosidad de la retroiluminación de la WR400 puede ajustarse desde el menú del nivel 1 al 10 (que es el más luminoso).

1. Para ajustar el atenuador de luminosidad de la retroiluminación, oprima el botón MENU (Menú) .

2. Oprima las flechas ▲ o ▼ hasta que la pantalla diga BACKLIGHT

(Retroiluminación) . Oprima el botón ENTER (Intro) .

3. Ahora tendrá la opción de seleccionar entre los niveles de retroiluminación del
