Getting started

Phone setup

Installing the NANO SIM card

You must insert your SIM card to make phone calls. You do not need to power off your phone before inserting or removing the SIM card.

1. Remove the back cover by gently pulling up on the indentation on the bottom left of the cover.

2. Insert the SIM card and microSD

card as shown in the illustration below.

3. Ensure that SIM and microSD

cards have been properly secured.

Note: microSD

card sold separately.

WARNING: To avoid damage to the phone, only use the standard NANO SIM card provided by your service provider.

Charging the battery

Your phone’s battery should have enough power for the phone to power on, acquire a signal, and place several calls. You should fully charge the battery as soon as possible.

When the battery is low, a low-battery warning icon will appear on the screen.

If the battery is extremely low, you may be unable to power on the phone even when it is being charged. In this case, try again after charging the phone for at least 10 minutes.

Insert the charger’s connector into the charging port. Be sure to insert the connector in the correct orientation. Do not force the connector into the port.

2.

Plug the charger into a standard AC wall outlet.

3.

When the battery is fully charged, unplug the charger and disconnect it from the phone.

WARNING:

Only use Alcatel-approved chargers and cables. The use of unapproved accessories could damage your phone.

Extending the battery life

Active applications, screen brightness levels, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi usage, and

GPS functionality can drain your battery. Follow the helpful tips below to conserve your battery power:

• Reduce the time before the Sleep Mode function is activated.

• Lower the screen brightness.

• Turn auto-sync, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth off when not in use.

• Disable the GPS function when not in use. Most applications using this function will periodically locate the GPS satellites for your current location.

Powering your phone on/off

Ensure that the NANO SIM card is in your phone and the battery is charged.

• Press and hold the Power key to power on your phone.

• To power it off, press and hold the Power key to open the options menu.

Tap Power off .

Setting up your phone for the first time

Follow the steps below to set up your phone for the first time or after a factory reset:

1.

Tap the language field to select the language you want to use and then tap START .

2. Connect to a secure and trusted Wi-Fi network, enter the password, and tap

CONNECT

. To skip, tap

SKIP

and tap

CONTINUE

on the pop-up message.

3. You will be prompted to agree to or decline Google Services, such as location and device maintenance, and to read Google's Terms of Service.

Make your allowances and tap

ACCEPT

to continue.

4. Choose a screen lock type Pattern, PIN or Password to prevent others from using your phone.

Switching to Sleep Mode

To save battery power, Sleep Mode suspends your phone in a low-powerconsumption state while the display is off. Your phone also goes into Sleep

Mode by itself when the display is automatically turned off after a certain period of time, which you can set by tapping Settings > Display > Sleep .

Press the Power key to enable Sleep Mode.

Waking up your phone

Press the

key to activate your screen display.

Note:

You will need to enter your unlock method, if enabled, to unlock your screen (see Settings > Security > Screen lock).

Getting around

Touch control

Your phone’s touch screen allows you to control actions through a variety of touch gestures.

• Tap: Tap the buttons, icons, or applications to select items or to open applications.

• Press and hold: To open the available options for an item (such as a message or link in a web page), press and hold the item.

• Swipe or slide: To scroll or toggle, quickly drag your finger vertically or horizontally across the screen.

• Drag: To drag, press and hold before you start to move your finger. While dragging, do not release your finger until you have reached the target position.

• Pinch:

In some apps (such as Maps Go, Browser, and Photos), you can zoom by placing two fingers on the screen and pinching them together

(to zoom out) or spreading them apart (to zoom in).

• Rotate the screen: In certain applications, you can change the screen orientation from portrait to landscape by turning the phone sideways.

• Tap to switch between apps and files you've recently opened.

• From any application or screen, tap to return to the Home screen.

• Press and hold to activate your Google Assistant.

• Tap to go back to the previous screen, or to close a dialog box, options menu, the Notifications panel, etc.

Power/Lock key

• Press: Lock the screen/Light up the screen.

• Press and hold: Show the popup menu to select from Power off/

Restart/Screenshot/Airplane mode.

• Press and hold the Power key and Volume down key to capture a screenshot.

• Press and hold the Power key for at least 10 seconds to force restart.

Volume Keys

• Adjust the earpiece or headset volume during a phone call.

• Adjusts the media volume while listening to music or a video, or streaming content.

• Adjust the ringtone volume.

• Mute the ringtone of an incoming call.

• While using the Camera app, press Volume up or down key to take a photo or press and hold to take several photos.

Extended home screen

In addition to the main home screen, your phone has extended home screens to provide more space for adding apps, widgets, and more. Once an app or widget is added to the extended home screen, swipe your finger to the left or right to access the extended home screen panels.

Adding items to your home screen

• To add an app to your home screen, swipe up on the home screen to access all the applications on the phone. Press and hold the desired app, and drag it to the home screen.

Choosing your wallpaper

1.

Press and hold an empty place on the home screen and tap WALLPAPERS .

Tap a wallpaper and tap

3. A popup menu will appear to set the selected wallpaper as image for the

Organizing apps with a folder

1.

Hold and drag an application over another to create folders.

To add more shortcuts into the folder, press and hold each shortcut and drag them over the folder before releasing them.

Removing items from your home screen

1.

Press and hold the item you want to delete until

X Remove

appears at the top of the screen.

2.

Drag the item to X Remove and release your finger when the item turns red.

Viewing your apps

Swipe up on the home screen to access all the applications on the phone.

You can add apps to your home screen and uninstall or disable them.

Uninstall or disable an application

1.

Swipe up on the home screen.

2.

Press and hold an application.

3.

To uninstall an app, drag it to X Remove and release it.

4. To enable or disable an application, swipe up on the home screen >

Settings > Apps & notifications > App info , then select the app.

Using the Notifications panel

Drag down from the Status bar to open the Notifications panel. Drag down once again to enter the Quick settings panel. When there are notifications, you can tap them to access notifications directly.

Quick settings panel

Drag down the Notifications panel to open the Quick settings panel. This will allow you to access frequently used settings like Wi-Fi, screen brightness, airplane mode, and others. You can open this panel from anywhere on your device, including your lock screen.

Tap to access Settings , where you can set more items.

Secure your phone

Enable an unlock method to keep your phone secure. Select Swipe, Pattern,

PIN, Password, or Face Unlock

• Tap Pattern to create a pattern you must draw to unlock the screen.

• Tap PIN or Password to set a numeric PIN or a password that you must enter to unlock your screen.

You can also enable Face Unlock*. Face Unlock will unlock your phone by using the front camera to register your face.

1. For the best result, start the setup in a bright, indoor environment away from direct sunlight.

2. Hold your phone about 20-50 cm from your face.

3. Position your face in the square shown on the screen, then select Continue when registration is complete.

* Facial Recognition may not be as secure as Pattern, PIN, or Password locks. We may use Facial Recognition methods only for the purpose to unlock the phone. The data collected from you through such methods will be stored in your device and will not be disclosed to any third-party. You may delete your data anytime by visiting

Settings > Security > Face Unlock > Remove face data.

Making calls

Calling from the dial pad

1. From the home screen, tap .

2. Tap to open the dial pad.

3.

Enter the phone number with the on-screen keypad. Tap to delete incorrect digits.

As you enter digits, your phone searches for contacts that match.

If you see the number you want to dial, tap it to place the call immediately without entering the rest of the number.

4. Tap to place the call.

Tip: To make an international call, press and hold the 0 key to enter the plus

(+) symbol. Next, enter the country code, followed by the area code, and then the phone number.

Dial a Recent Number

1. From the home screen, tap > .

2. Swipe the screen up or down and tap the contact you want to call.

Tip: You can search for a contact by tapping the search field at the top of the screen.

3. Tap the number or contact name, then tap to call, or tap the number to call.

Calling from Contacts

1. Swipe up on the home screen, tap .

2.

Swipe your finger up or down to scroll through the contacts list, tap the contact you want to call, then tap to call.

Tip: You can search for a contact by tapping the search field above the

Contact lists.

Calling from Messaging

1. From Messaging tap the conversation with the contact you wish to call.

2. Tap at the top of the screen to call that number.

Receiving calls

• Press and swipe up to answer an incoming phone call.

• Press and swipe up to reject an incoming phone call.

• Tap to set a reminder to call the number back in 5 or 10 minutes.

• Tap to reject the call and select a preset test message to send to the caller.

Using options during a call

During a call, you will see a number of on-screen options. Tap an option to select it.

• Tap to turn the speaker on or off.

• Tap to mute or unmute your microphone.

• Tap to open the dial pad.

• Tap to put the call on hold.

• Tap to place a second call, separate from the first call, which is put on hold. You can then merge the calls to create a conference call.

• Tap to end the current call.

WARNING:

Do not place the phone near your ear while the speakerphone is in use.

Managing multi-party calls

When call waiting and three-way calling features are available, you can switch between two calls or set up a conference call.

Note: Call waiting and three-way call features require network support and may result in additional charges. Please contact your service provider for more information.

Switching between current calls

When you’re on a call, your phone will vibrate or a your notification ringtone will sound to inform you that another call is coming in. The screen will display the caller ID.

To respond to an incoming call while you’re on a call:

Press and swipe up to answer the call. This puts the first call on hold and answers the second call. Press and swipe up to reject the second call.

Note: Tap to reject the second call and select a preset text message to the caller.

To switch between two calls:

Tap or On hold on the screen.

Setting up a conference call

1.

In the dial pad, enter a number and tap .

2.

Once you have established the connection, tap > and dial the second number. This puts the first caller on hold and dials the second number.

3.

When you’re connected to the second party, tap .

If one of the individuals on the line hangs up during your call, you and the remaining caller stay connected. If you initiated the call and are the first to hang up, all callers are disconnected.

To end the conference call, tap .

Adjusting your phone settings

From the home screen, tap > > Settings to configure the phone options.

Quick responses: Edit quick responses which will be used when you reject a call with messages.

Dial pad tones: Enable playing tones when using the dial pad.

Access voicemail service and number settings.

• Wi-Fi calling

Turn on/off Wi-Fi calling to allow your device to make calls over a Wi-Fi network.

• Call forwarding

Configure how your calls are forwarded when unanswered.

• Additional settings

Use default carrier settings to display your number in outgoing calls.

Accessibility

• Teletypewriter (TTY) Call Button

TTY assists callers who are deaf, hard of hearing, have a speech disability, or need more than voice alone. Incoming/outgoing speech can be converted to a teletypewriter messaging when TTY call has been established.

• Hearing aids

Enable hearing aid compatibility.

• Noise reduction

Suppress your background noise during calls.

Quick dial: Assign specific numbers to numbers on your dial pad for quick dialing.

CONTACTS SETTINGS

Import/Export: Import or export contacts between phone, SIM card, microSD TM card and phone storage.

Merge contacts: Select duplicate contacts to merge.

Manage account: Manage the synchronization settings for different accounts.

Set the contacts display by First name or Last name.

• Name format

Set the name format by First name first or Last name first.

Contacts

Add contacts on your phone and synchronize them with the contacts in your

Google account or other accounts that support contact syncing.

To see your contacts, swipe up on the home screen > contacts.

Importing and exporting contacts

Import/export contacts from/to your NANO SIM card, phone storage, Gmail account, or microSD

TM

card. This is especially useful when you need to transfer contacts between different devices. You can also quickly share your contacts using Bluetooth, Gmail, Messaging, and other applications.

Sharing contact information

Use the pop-up menu to choose how to share the contact information.

Available options will depend on the applications and services installed.

Creating a contact

1.

From the Contacts screen, tap to add a new contact.

2.

Tap the account field near the top of the screen to choose where to save the contact. If a sync account is selected, the contacts will be synced automatically with your account online.

3.

Enter the contact name, phone numbers, email addresses, and other information.

4.

Tap to save the contact.

Adding a contact to Favorites

Add the contacts you use frequently to Favorites so that you can find them quickly.

1. From the Contacts screen, tap the contact you want to add to Favorites.

2. Tap .

Searching for a contact

1. Tap above the contacts list.

Enter the contact name, phone number or email address you want to find.

Matching contacts will be listed.

Linking contacts

As your phone synchronizes with multiple online accounts, you may see duplicate entries for the same contact. You can merge all the separate information of a contact into one entry in the Contacts list.

1. Swipe up on the home screen, tap .

2. Tap a contact to display the contact’s details.

3. Tap > Link .

4. Tap the contact whose information you want to merge with the first entry.

The information from the second contact is added to the first, and the second contact is no longer displayed in the contacts list.

Unlinking contacts

If contact information from different sources was merged in error, restore the information to individual contacts on your phone.

1. Swipe up on the home screen, tap .

2. Tap a contact you have merged and want to separate.

3. Tap

> View linked contacts > SEPARATE

Messaging

Use Messaging to exchange text messages (SMS) and multimedia messages

(MMS).

Opening the messaging screen

From the home screen, tap .

The Messaging screen opens, where you can create a new message, search for messages, or open an ongoing message thread.

• Tap to write a new text or multimedia message.

• Tap to search for keywords within a message.

• Tap an existing message thread to open the conversation with a contact, phone number, or email address.

Sending a message

1. From the Messaging screen, tap at the bottom of the screen.

2. Add recipients by one of the following ways:

• Tap the

To

field and type the recipient's name, number, or email address. If the recipient is saved in Contacts, their contact information will appear.

• Tap Dialpad to enter a number not saved in contacts, or without searching Contacts .

3. Tap the Add text field and enter the content of your text message.

4. If you want to send a multimedia message, tap the paper clip icon attach a file to the message.

Note:

Messages sent to email addresses are multimedia messages.

Replying to a message

Messages you receive are added to existing conversation threads with the same recipient. If the new message comes from a new number, a new thread is created.

1. From the Messaging screen, tap the thread that has the message you want to reply to.

2. Type your reply in the text box at the bottom. You can tap to reply with an MMS.

Forwarding a message

1. From the thread screen, press and hold a message you want to forward.

2. Tap .

3. Enter a recipient for the message and edit the content if you want.

4. Tap to send your message.

Changing message settings

The phone’s message settings are pre-configured for you to use immediately.

To change them, tap > Settings from the Messaging screen.

Swipe up on the home screen, tap

Gmail

. Receive and send emails from your webmail or other accounts using POP3 or IMAP, or access your

Exchange ActiveSync account for your corporate email needs.

Setting up the first email account

1. From the Home screen, tap Gmail.

2. Enter your email address and tap

and enter your password and then tap NEXT again.

3. Confirm email account settings, tap NEXT .

4. Enter your name which will be displayed on outgoing emails, tap

Checking your emails

Your phone can automatically check for new emails at the interval you set when setting up the account.

When you are in an email account, swipe down on the screen to download new emails.

Responding to an email

Reply to or forward a message that you recieve. You can also delete messages and manage them in other ways.

Replying to or forwarding an email

1. Open the email you want to reply to or forward.

2. Choose from the following:

• To reply to the sender, tap .

• To reply to the sender and all recipients of the original email, tap

>

Reply all or tap the Reply all button on the keyboard.

• To forward the email to someone else, tap .

3. Edit your message and tap to send.

Deleting an email

You can delete a single email or several emails at once.

• With an email message open, tap .

• While in an email list (such as inbox), tap the checkboxes next to the messages and then tap .

Writing and sending an email

1. Open your email Inbox and tap .

Add a Wi-Fi network if the network does not broadcast its name (SSID), or to add a Wi-Fi network when you are out of range.

To connect to a secure network, you first need to get the security details from the network’s administrator.

Connecting to virtual private networks

Virtual private networks (VPNs) allow you to connect to the resources inside a secured local network. VPNs are commonly deployed by corporations, schools, and other institutions to let people access local network resources when not on campus, or when connected to a wireless network.

Depending on the type of VPN you are using, you may be required to enter your login credentials or install security certificates before you can connect to your VPN. You can get this information from your network administrator.

Adding a VPN

1. Swipe up on the home screen, tap Settings > Network & internet > VPN .

2. Tap and fill in the information provided by your network administrator.

Using Wi-Fi Direct

Wi-Fi Direct allows two devices to establish a direct, peer-to-peer Wi-Fi connection without requiring a wireless router.

2. If Wi-Fi is off, slide the Wi-Fi switch to the position.

Bluetooth

Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communication technology. Phones or other devices with Bluetooth capabilities can exchange information wirelessly. The Bluetooth devices must be paired before the communication is performed.

Turning Bluetooth on/off

Connection preferences > Bluetooth

2. Tap the Bluetooth switch to enable or disable Bluetooth. Turning

Turn on the switch to back up your device’s settings and other application data to Google Servers, with your Google account. If you replace your device, the settings and data you’ve backed up are restored onto the new device for the first time you sign in with your Google account. If you mark this option, a wide variety of settings and data are backed up, including your Wi-Fi passwords, bookmarks, a list of the applications you’ve installed, the words you’ve added to the dictionary used by the onscreen keyboard, and most of the settings that you configure with the Settings application. If you unmark this option, you stop backing up your settings, and any existing backups are deleted from Google Servers.

FCC RF Exposure Information (SAR)

This phone is designed and manufactured not to exceed the emission limits for exposure to radio frequency (RF) energy set by the Federal

Communications Commission of the United States.

During SAR testing, this device was set to transmit at its highest certified power level in all tested frequency bands and placed in positions that simulate RF exposure in usage against the head with no separation, and near the body with the separation of 15 mm. Hearing Aid Compatibility (HAC) regulations for mobile phones

In 2003, the FCC adopted rules to make digital wireless telephones compatible with hearing aids and cochlear implants. Although analog wireless phones do not usually cause interference with hearing aids or cochlear implants, digital wireless phones sometimes do because of electromagnetic energy emitted by the phone’s antenna, backlight, or other components. Your phone is compliant with FCC HAC regulations (ANSI

C63.19- 2011). While some wireless phones are used near some hearing devices (hearing aids and cochlear implants), users may detect a buzzing, humming, or whining noise.
