About the performance of Face Recognition function

Recognition performance varies greatly depending on shooting conditions, i.e., according to factors such as angles, facial expression and lighting, so operation under all conditions cannot be guaranteed. Because the camera searches for faces that are similar to registered faces, there are cases where the faces are not correctly recognized when the registered image and the shooting image varies much. When facial characteristics are similar, particularly between parents and their children or brothers and sisters, the camera may not distinguish the faces.

About Waterproof / Dustproof performance of the camera “DMC-FT1”

This camera is waterproof / dustproof equivalent to “IP58”, and is possible to record at a maximum of 3.0 m depth/60 min. This does not guarantee nondestruction, non-malfunction, and water-proofi ng in all conditions. Please observe specifi ed precautions and avoid product-use beyond the guaranteed underwater duration, or beyond the guaranteed depth of water.

- Attention - To prevent water leakage, confirm that there is no foreign object near card/battery door then close door by pressing until it clicks. •

Use underwater up to 3.0 m depth and not longer than 60 minutes continuously. •Do not leave under low temperature in the cold climate, or where the temperature is above 40°C for a long period of time. •When the unit is splashed with detergent, soap, hot spring, bath additive, sun oil, sunscreen, chemical, etc., wipe it off immediately. •After use at the seaside or underwater, soak the unit in fresh water pooled in a shallow container for 10 minutes or less. Do not leave uncared for more than 60 minutes after using underwater. It may cause deterioration of the waterproof performance. •Foreign materials may be attached if the zoom lever or mode dial does not move smoothly. Soak the unit in fresh water, shake it well and then wash the zoom lever and mode dial with tap water. •To maintain the waterproof performance, it is recommended that the waterproof seal (with fee) is replaced at least once every 1 year at the retail store where you have bought the camera.

About Shockproof performance of the camera “DMC-FT1”

This camera has passed a drop test from 1.5 m in height in accordance with “MIL-STD 810F Method 516.5-Shock”, but this does not guarantee non-destruction, non-malfunction, and water-proofi ng in all conditions. Water-proofi ng is not guaranteed if the unit is subject to an impact as a result of being hit or dropped etc.

Intelligent Auto Mode (Photo)

Press a button or turn a dial to select iA mode, and your LUMIX camera automatically activates a host of advanced functions and technologies – described below – that make it easy to capture beautiful, clear shots.

MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer)

Built-in gyrosensors detect even slight camera movement caused by hand-shake.

The system then compensates for the shake so you get clear, sharp photos.

AF Tracking

Once you focus on your subject, AF Tracking automatically and continuously tracks it and keeps it in focus.

Focusing Functions

A Choice of Auto Focus Modes

Choose the auto focus mode that best suits the situation. In addition to Face

Detection AF and AF Tracking, you can choose from 1-area, 1-area high-speed, Spot, and Multi. *The AF area setting menu varies by model. For details, please see the specifi cations on pages 34 to 38.

Intelligent ISO Control

This system detects if the subject is moving as you shoot, and automatically adjusts the

ISO setting and shutter speed accordingly to help prevent motion blur.

Selectable AF Area

While using 1-area, 1-area high-speed, Spot, or Multi-area

AF mode, you can specify the area out of 11 AF areas. You can thereby enjoy free framing even with the subject not at the center. Some models let you set the AF area to any location within the frame.

Face Detection AF/AE

This function determines if there are any faces in the photo and adjusts the focus and exposure to capture them correctly. When you take shots with the fl ash, digital processing minimizes the red-eye effect.* *Except LS85.

AF Assist Lamp

For use in dim lighting, this lamp slightly illuminates the subject to help the AF system focus correctly.

Face Recognition

Face Recognition "remembers" faces that have been registered in the camera from previous shots, and optimizes the focus and exposure to capture them perfectly. This clever function makes it easy to get beautiful photos of loved ones in a group of people. *Turn Face Recognition item ON and resister the person with full-face portrait on the shooting menu in advance. Refer to back page for detail.

Quick AF

When the camera detects that you have assumed a shooting stance, it automatically begins focusing. This system gets you ready to catch critical shots faster than systems that don't begin focusing until you press the shutter button halfway. *The focus speed may be slower in dark surroundings.

Intelligent Scene Selector

This function automatically sets the camera to whichever of fi ve scene modes – Portrait,

The camera is always focusing, which reduces AF delays.

Intelligent Exposure

The camera corrects the brightness in parts of the image that are too dark due to insuffi cient lighting, backlighting or use of the fl ash.

Manual Focus

You can manually focus with the joystick.

And you can also use the assist function, which enlarges the center of the image to make focusing easier. The focusing area can be enlarged up to 4x and is movable.

Basic Functions

Light Metering

The light can be measured in three ways as a guideline for exposure: Intelligent

Multiple, Center Weighted, or Spot. Simply switch the metering method to match the shooting scene or your shooting intent. *Some models offer Intelligent Multiple metering only.

White Balance Settings

Choose from six preset white balance settings: Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Shade,

Flash, Halogen, and White Set. This is handy when there are several different light sources and it's diffi cult to get the exact coloration you want.

*White balance setting menu varies by model. For details, please see the specifi cations on pages 34 to 38.

White Balance Adjustment

When it's difficult to get the exact coloring you want, you can add bluish or reddish tones in +/-10 steps of 150 kelvins each*. Some models let you make adjustments on both the red/blue axis and the magenta/green axis in +/- 9 steps.

*In Auto mode the white balance is determined automatically and cannot be adjusted.

ISO Sensitivity Settings

You can choose the light-receiving sensitivity from Auto, I.ISO, 80, 100, 200, 400, 800,

1600, or 3200*. *ISO setting menu varies by model. For details, please see the specifi cations on pages 34 to 38.

ISO Limit Set

When using ISO Auto mode, you can preset exactly the upper ISO limit that you want. This lets you shoot within the sensitivity range that you have set, to refl ect your intentions in particular shooting situations.

Auto Bracketing

This shoots three shots at slightly graduated exposures (+/- 1/3 - 1 EV step). Pick the best of the three to keep.

Advanced Shooting Functions

Wide-Angle Shooting

A wide-angle lens captures a wider photo area than a standard 35mm lens.

This is a big advantage when you're trying to capture the grandeur of a sweeping landscape or massive building, or when you're in a small room trying to take a group photo.

Extra Optical Zoom

This function provides additional magnification, extending the zoom power by using the center part of the CCD. When compared with conventional digital zoom functions that directly enlarge the image data, it provides better image quality.

Easy Zoom Button

Press this button once and the zoom lens instantly extends to full telescopic. Press it twice and the Extra Optical Zoom also activates and extends to full telescopic. With this quick zooming, you're ready in an instant when a great opportunity arises.

Flash Synchro

You can use the fl ash function with 1st curtain and 2nd curtain synchro settings to add an effective nuance according to the scene. The 2nd curtain synchro activates the fl ash just before the shutter closes, making it appear that the light source is actually behind the subject.

Select Among 3 Aspect Ratios

In addition to the conventional 4:3 image format, you can select the 16:9 or 3:2 format to suit the shot you're composing. 16:9 images are perfect for viewing on a wide-screen TV.

*When using a plasma display to show 16:9 images recorded on an SD Memory Card, the images may not fi ll the entire screen.

Multi Aspect Mode

The camera takes pictures in each of the three aspect ratios (4:3, 3:2, 16:9) in one go. And you can reproduce images shot with the lens set from wide end to tele end in any of three aspect ratios.

MEGA BURST Consecutive Shooting

The camera lets you snap off consecutive shots at up to 3 frames per second* with full resolution. *The maximum number of frames varies with different models and settings.

Unlimited Consecutive Shooting

The Unlimited Consecutive Shooting function lets you keep on shooting until the memory card is full. You can take a series of shots, then choose the one you like best and delete the rest.

*The consecutive shooting speed varies depending on the model, shooting conditions and memory card.

Multiple Exposure

You can take up to three exposures in a single frame. You can also apply automatic gain compensation according to your requirements.

Film Mode

Much like changing the fi lm type in a fi lm camera, you can enjoy a wide range of expression based on six color modes and three monochromatic modes.

Color Mode / Color Effect Mode

Choose from fi ve or seven preset Color Mode settings: Cool, Warm, Black & White,

Sepia, Natural*, Standard*, and Vivid*. In some models, the bracketing function can provide three types of image. *Not offered on all models.

Black & White Sepia Natural Vivid

Picture Adjustment

Choose from four picture adjustment settings: Contrast, Sharpness, Saturation and

Noise Reduction. Each setting can be individually set to Low, Standard or High.

RAW Format Compatiblility

You can record original image data directly from the CCD without any image processing. Using SILKYPIX® Developer Studio software utility, you can develop

RAW data to create an image with the effect you wanted when you took the shot.

LCD Functions

Intelligent LCD

In a brightly lit place, such as outdoors under the sun, the Auto Power LCD function increases the brightness level of the backlight by about 40% maximum in several steps. When shooting in a dark place, such as at night, the frame rate is adjusted based on the pixel mixed readout method to brighten the screen in two to three steps.

Wide-Viewing-Angle LCD

The LCD offers a wide viewing angle from any direction, making it easy to confi rm images, even when looking at the screen diagonally.

High Angle Mode

Makes it easier to see the monitor while holding the camera high to shoot over a crowd.

Real-Time Histogram

This graph, which can be displayed in the LCD as you compose the shot, shows the status of the exposure and contrast in real-time.

Highlight Display

A fl ashing indicator on the LCD shows any parts of the image that have been overexposed.

Playback Functions

Multi Display

After shooting, enjoy viewing your photos on your LUMIX camera's LCD. View them as a slide show; display 1,

12 or 30 images at a time; or use Calendar View to see thumbnails of all the shots taken on a particular date.

Slideshow

You can watch an ordinary slide show that displays every image, or you can use Favorite Image Slideshow and specify which images to play. You can also select background music to make your slideshow even more entertaining.

Category Playback

This function sorts photos into several categories -

Portrait, Scenery, Event, and others – and lets you play back the images or view slideshows of the shots in a particular category.

Personal Category Playback

Using Face Recognition technology, the camera can fi nd photos of people you specify, and arrange a slideshow of just those photos. This is a big help, for example, when you've taken a number of photos of someone and you want to choose the best one.

Mode Playback

With this function, the camera will automatically organize all of the still and motion images that are mixed together in memory. This makes it possible to view still images, AVCHD Lite motion images and Motion JPEG images separately.

Dual-Image Playback

The dual-image playback display feature makes it easier to compare two images in detail to see the differences in focus accuracy and contrast.

Composition Guidelines

You can use composition guidelines from two patterns* according to the shooting subject. And guidelines can be shown at the same time as other information and icons.

Convenient Functions

Quick Menu

You can instantly access a variety of the settings needed most often. These include white balance, ISO sensitivity, image size, compression format, auto focus mode, light metering and so on.

World Time Setting

After you select one of 74 locations on the map, the camera automatically calculates and displays the local time.

Travel Date Setting

Input the time and date of your departure before you leave home, then use the camera to capture all the best moments of your trip. When you view the photos later, the camera will display them according to the day of the trip each photo was taken.

Title Edit

Using the cursor button on the camera, you can edit titles onto your images – people's names, places, events or other information.

Text Stamp

When traveling, you can stamp the day of the trip on the photos you take. Or, if you have a baby, you can stamp his or her age in months and name on your photos. The stamped information appears on photos.

*When the date is stamped on a photo, the photo is automatically resized to 3M

(4:3)/2.5M (3:2)/2M (16:9), or the original size is maintained for photos smaller than 3M. However, you can choose either to save or overwrite the original picture.

Flip Animation

Using up to 100 of your photos, you can create a "flip animation" clip up to 20 seconds long.

Audio Recording

Add 5 seconds of sound to pictures as you shoot. Or, if you prefer, add up to 10 seconds of sound after shooting.

HD Output

Using an optional HDMI mini cable or component cable you can connect your

LUMIX camera to an HDTV, and view your HD photos and HD movies (1080i) in stunning high-defi nition quality.

Intelligent Auto Mode (Movie)

Select iA mode, and your LUMIX camera automatically activates a host of advanced functions and technologies – described below – that make it easy to capture beautiful, clear motion images.

MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer)

This function fi ghts blurring due to shaky hands as you shoot. You get crisp, sharp shots, even at high zoom levels.

Face Detection AF/AE

This function detects when there are faces in the frame, and automatically adjusts the exposure, contrast, skin complexion effect, and focus so they turn out perfectly.

It can fi nd up to 15 faces in a frame.

Intelligent Scene Selector

This function senses the shooting conditions and selects the scene setting (Portrait,

Scenery, Low Light, or Macro) that will provide the best results.

Intelligent Exposure

This function continually checks the ambient light level and adjusts the exposure setting as conditions change, preventing blown highlights and blocked shadows.

HD Movie

You can shoot high-quality HD motion images in the progressive format, which minimizes fl icker. The 1280 x 720-pixel images provide spectacular viewing on a largescreen HDTV. If you're using a LUMIX model that features the AVCHD Lite (MPEG-4/

H.264), you can record for a longer time without running out of memory because

AVCHD Lite stores less data than the conventional Motion JPEG.

Movie Button

Press this button and the camera starts recording right away, regardless of whether it's in Rec or Play mode. You're ready to shoot quickly when there's a sudden shooting opportunity.

Zoom-in Movie

You can zoom in and out while shooting motion images, just like with stills.

Movie Scene Modes

17 different scene modes including sports, portrait, low light, surf and snow modes make it easy to get great motion images in specifi c situations.

Wind Cut

A digital circuit detects the wind direction and velocity and adjusts the directivity of the microphones accordingly. This dramatically reduces both wind noise and sound degradation in the low frequency range.

Stereo Microphone

The LUMIX cameras are the fi rst* in the industry to feature Dolby® Digital Creator sound. In addition to recording voices clearly, this high-quality system captures audio that conveys the atmosphere of the shooting location.

PHOTOfunSTUDIO

This clever software sorts photos into practical folders that are created automatically as you upload the photos from the camera to a PC. The folders and their icons are linked with your LUMIX by the Rec mode or Scene mode names.

The software* also lets you use your PC to view AVCHD Lite movies that you record with LUMIX. * Version 3.0 HD Edition only.

SILKYPIX® Developer Studio

This application lets you produce high-resolution images from RAW data recorded with your camera. In addition to adjusting the exposure and white balance, it lets you perform advanced color conversions, correct lens aberrations, and eliminate noise in dark areas of the image.

ArcSoft® Panorama Maker™

Use this to stitch together photos that you took in Panorama Assist mode. You can easily create incredible, natural-looking panorama photos.

Rec. Mode (Mode Dial / Mode Button)

Intelligent Auto Mode

This mode not only helps eliminate blurring from hand-shake or subject movement, it also helps you capture perfect portraits by detecting the face and selecting the focus, exposure and Scene mode that get the best results. And it's all automatic.

Normal Picture (Program AE) Mode

The camera automatically determines the subject's brightness and sets the aperture and shutter speed accordingly. You can adjust the white balance, ISO sensitivity and other settings*. *These settings can be adjusted in all modes except Motion Picture mode.

Macro (Close-up) Mode

Use this mode to take incredible close-ups. You can focus on subjects within about

5 cm (0.16 ft) of the lens*. *3 cm (0.098 ft) for the TZ7 and TZ6 / 1 cm (0.03 ft) for the FZ28 and LX3; when shooting with the lens in the wide-angle setting.

Tele Macro

Set the zoom to maximum telephoto and you can take shots at a mere 1 m (3.28 ft) from the subject, with the background in soft focus.

Macro Zoom

Using the digital zoom function, you can pull subjects even closer than the closest point possible with the wide-angle setting, and capture dramatic close-ups.

Program AE Mode

The camera makes the optimal aperture and shutter speed settings for you.

Aperture Priority AE Mode

Set the aperture to between F2.8 and F8.0* to obtain the desired depth of fi eld.

*This range varies by model. For details, please see the specifi cations on pages 34 to 38.

Shutter Priority AE Mode

Set the shutter speed between 1/2000 and 60 seconds to freeze or emphasize movements.

Manual Exposure Mode

You have full control over both the shutter speed and aperture.

Motion Picture Mode

You can shoot smooth motion images at 30 fps, complete with sound, in WVGA

(848 x 480) or VGA size (640 x 480). Some models can also record motion images in high defi nition (720p). When viewing the results, you will be suitably impressed by displaying 16:9 motion images on a large-screen HDTV.

Custom Mode

You can store in memory up to three sets of frequently used settings, such as the

Scene mode, white balance and AF and photometry modes. Later, you can instantly recall those settings by selecting Custom mode.

Clipboard Mode

You can take photos of maps, timetables and other travel info. They are saved in a separate folder of the built-in memory to distinguish them from normal photos.

Advanced SCN Modes

In Scenery, Portrait, Sports, Night Portrait and Close-up modes, you can select additional, more detailed settings, such as Normal, Indoor, Outdoor, and Creative.

SCN (Scene) Modes

Portrait Mode

Adjusts the exposure and coloration so that skin tones look true and natural.

Soft Skin Mode

Softens the tone in skin-color areas, making minor blemishes and wrinkles less noticeable.

Scenery Mode

Provides quick focusing and crisp detail - especially good for shooting landscapes or scenery.

Sports Mode

Uses a higher shutter speed, making it possible to catch clear, sharp, dynamic action shots.

Panning Mode

Conveys a sense of motion by capturing a moving subject in crisp focus and blurring the background.

Night Portrait Mode

For portraits against nighttime scenery, using a flash.

Hold the camera fi rmly and the subject should keep still for at least 1 second.

Night Scenery Mode

For taking a picture with night scenery. Shutter will be set to max. 8 sec. Be sure to use a tripod.

Self-Portrait Mode

Aim the camera at yourself, wait for the LED to light up

(indicating that you're in focus), and take the shot.

High Sensitivity Mode

Raises the ISO sensitivity, which lets you shoot at a higher shutter speed to prevent blurred shots of moving subjects. *3M (4:3), 2.5M (3:2) or 2M (16:9) is selected as the picture size; Note that resolution is signifi cantly lower at this setting.

Baby Mode (1 and 2)

Skin tones are slightly softened to enhance beauty. Input the date of your baby's birthday, and keep a running photographic record as he or she grows up. You can also input your baby's name. You can set two birth dates to track two different children.

Underwater Mode

Intended especially for underwater use with the optional

Marine Case, this mode gives photos natural coloring even when the subject is lit by only a small amount of light.

Sunset Mode

Emphasizing red tones, this mode is designed to capture clear, vivid shots of colorful sunsets.

Pet Mode

Because pets often won't hold still, this mode switches the camera to Intelligent ISO Control, which helps prevent motion blur. If you input your pet's date of birth, its age in months (at the time a photo was taken) is displayed when you view photos. You can also input the pet's name or other.

Hi-Speed Burst Mode

You can capture a crucial moment with perfect timing.

*3M (4:3), 2.5M (3:2) or 2M (16:9) is selected as the picture size.

Flash Burst Mode

You can take consecutive fl ash shots without having to wait for the fl ash to recharge. *3M (4:3), 2.5M (3:2) or 2M (16:9) is selected as the picture size.

Pin Hole Mode

The light intensity at the periphery of the shot image is reduced to make the picture look as if it was shot with a pinhole camera.

Film Grain Mode

This mode converts the image to a monochromatic picture and then enhances the contrast to create a fi lm grain effect.

Transform Mode

You can expand or contract the image in the horizontal direction to create a different, fun photo. Expansion/contraction can be set in 5 steps.

Slimming Normal Stretching

Panorama Assist Mode

This mode helps you take a series of images for use in a panorama photo, checking to ensure that adjacent shots have suffi cient overlap. *You can use ArcSoft® Panorama Maker™ software

(included with the camera) to stitch the images into a single panorama photo.

Photo Frame Mode

You can compose your shot while displaying one of the borders registered in the camera. This is a quick, easy way to produce photos with attractive borders.

*The picture size is automatically resized to 2M (or below).

Beach & Surf Mode

This mode prevents both the blue cast that typically occurs with images recorded underwater and the blown highlights that often result in photos taken on bright days at the beach.
