CHAPTER 1: FCC WARNINGS

FCC

This equipment has been tested and found to comply with limits for

FCC Compliance Statement

These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against frequency interference in residential installation. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy, and if not installed or used accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communication. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on. The user is encouraged to try and correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:

CHAPTER 2: SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Use the provided power adaptor.

Do not use this product with a power source that applies more than the specified voltage.

Never insert metal into the camera case or its openings.

Inserting metal into the camera case may cause electric shock.

Do not expose the camera to rain or use near water.

If the camera accidentally gets wet, unplug it and contact technical support immediately.

Keep product surfaces clean and dry.

To clean the outside case of the camera, use a lightly dampened cloth.

Do not use cleaning solutions or solvents.

Do not install near any heat sources.

Do not install the camera near any heat sources such as stoves, heat registers, radiators, or electronics (including amplifiers) that produce heat.

Unplug the camera when moving it.

Make sure that the camera is unplugged before you move it. When moving this device, be sure to handle it with care.

Do not attempt to remove the top cover.

If you observe any abnormal operation, unplug the camera immediately and contact technical support. Do not attempt to open the camera to diagnose the cause of the problem.

You may be subjected to severe electrical shock if you remove the cover of the camera.

CHAPTER 4: POWERING YOUR CAMERA

Plug the micro USB connector into the USB port on your camera; plug the other end into a wall outlet.

The indicator light will initially be a solid purple. Once it begins to blink red, the camera can be synced to your mobile device.

NOTE: If the indicator light is blinking red you are ready to add the camera to your mobile device. If your camera is not blinking red, press and hold the RESET pinhole until the light turns off and refer to the

Chapter 4 on how to power your camera.

Download the Night Owl Pro app from the App Store or Play Store.

Open the Night Owl Pro app; the default function is Live View (Section

6.3). All images shown are using the iOS app in landscape mode; your screen may differ slightly depending on your operating system.

If you are adding a new camera, create a User Name, Password, and

CHAPTER 5: CONNECTING TO THE NIGHT OWL PRO APP

Next you will enter the credentials for your WiFi network. If you do not know your WiFi credentials, please consult your Internet Service Provider

(ISP) or router manufacturer in order to retrieve lost or forgotten passwords.

While in the Night Owl Pro app from the Live View screen click on the

In this menu you can adjust the same settings available to you from the remote viewer. See Section 7.1 for more details.

In addition to viewing from a mobile device, you can also view your camera from any computer with web access and Internet Explorer.

First you will need to get your WAN IP address and Web Port numbers.

While in the app, press the Device button.

On this screen you will see a list of devices that have already been added. If you do not see the WAN numbers, please go back to the

Live View and then return to the Device page. Write down the WAN

IP address and Web Port. You can also press Edit and click on the device to find the same information.

Now on your computer type the WAN IP address followed by the Web

Port number into the URL bar. It should look like this:

(This IP Address is an example only. Please type in the values specific to your device.)

You should then be prompted to enter the User Name and Password you created when connecting your camera to Night Owl Pro.

If you are successful you should see live streaming video from your camera!

7.1. Remote View Settings

From your remote viewing session you can adjust a number of settings and parameters.

Live View Settings

This is the default view of your live video. While in this menu you can adjust various settings to improve the quality of the image you are viewing.

Brightness: use the slider to adjust the image brightness if it is too dark.

Contrast: adjust the contrast between colors to help show distinction between objects.

Hue: correct the overall hue of the video that could be affected by varying light sources.

Saturation: adjust the saturation to improve definition between colors on screen.

Sharpness: correct the interpolation of blurred objects to improve image clarity.

Live View Options

Preview: turn the live stream on or off in your browser window.

Stream Settings: change between various input resolutions.

Capture: take a snapshot of the current video frame.

Full: go into full screen mode.

Record: record the current stream directly to the camera.

Digital Zoom: toggle on and select an area to zoom in or out from.

Talk: speak into your computer microphone (if enabled) to transmit audio to the camera speaker.

Volume: adjust the volume of the live stream.

Original/Extended: switch between the actual video resolution and the extended resolution made to fit your browser window.

Playback Settings

Using the available calendar, you can select a date with recorded footage; dates highlighted in red represent days with recording files available.

Type: select from All, Normal, or Alarm from the dropdown menu depending on which type of footage you would like to play back.

Start Time: indicate a specific start time for searching for footage.

End Time: indicate an end time for searching for footage.

Record List: display the files that fit into your search parameters.

Selecting files and clicking Backup will allow you to save footage directly to your computer.

Search: search all footage types based on specific criteria.

Playback Options

Play: play selected footage from the cursor point in the timeline.

Pause: pause footage.

Stop: stop playback.

Next Frame: advance to the next frame in the footage.

Capture: take a snapshot of the current frame and save to your computer.

Digital Zoom: select a viewing area on screen to digitally zoom in or out.

Zoom In (Time): zoom in on the timeline intervals for more precise playback.

Zoom Out (Time): zoom out on the timeline intervals for general review.

Original/Extended: switch between the actual footage resolution and the extended resolution made to fit your browser window.

Full: view footage in full-screen mode.

Configure Settings

Information: verify your device information and QR ID.

Date/Time: adjust the date and time format, time zone, and/or the time server in which your system will be synced with. You can also enable

Daylight Savings Time (DST) from this settings menu.

Display: toggle the display of the date/time or channel name over the live footage on or off.

Mask: block a specific viewable area from being recorded. You can select a masking area with this option

Conditions: modify the Live View settings or other camera options in this settings menu. We recommend leaving all settings on their default values.

Day/Night Mode: choose between daytime and nighttime images settings depending on your preferences.

Infrared Light: turn the camera LEDs on or off.

Exposure: change the light exposure on the camera to enhance dark images.

Gain: adjust the audio gain for the camera microphone (if enabled).

Backlight Compensation: fine-tune the lighting behind the subject to adjust for bright lighting.

Profile: choose between various profiles adapted to specific lighting settings.

Anti-flicker: select between various refresh rates to counter image flicker.

Mirror: toggle between normal and mirrored footage.

Flip: view footage upside-down.

WDR: set the Wide Dynamic Range. Select from various exposure settings to increase clarity and provide better shadows and highlights.

Stream: configure the parameters for the two video streams (standard and HD) to allow for better and seamless transmission. You can adjust the following for both the HD and VGA streams:

Resolution: choose from various resolutions. A lower resolution will result in better streaming but will also lower the quality of footage.

Frame Rate: reduce the frames per second being streamed to decrease bandwidth usage.

Bitrate: adjust the maximum rate of data transfer.

Bit mode: select between Variable Bit Rate (VBR) or Constant Bit

Rate (CBR) transmission.

Record: fine-tune the audio recording settings.

Audio Gain: adjust the microphone gain to pick up noise in quieter settings or decrease for loud environments.

Mode: pick between Continuous and Schedule mode.

Schedule: create a set schedule to determine when you want video to be recorded.

User: add or modify system users from this panel.

Add: create a new user in the system and set up a User Name and

Password.

Modify: adjust the credentials and/or permissions of an existing user.

Basic: standard permissions granted to the selected user.

Authority: give control to modify permission settings for various system parameters.

Alarm: create or alter alarm rules and settings.

Motion: alarms based on motion detected in video.

Enable: turn the alarm function on or off.

Sensitivity: make changes to the motion sensor sensitivity.

Area: select a specific portion of the viewing area that will set off an alarm when motion is detected.

Schedule: adjust the time and frequency for when alarm notifications are received.

Trigger: configure what each alarm does: start recording, take a snapshot, etc.

Video Loss: this alarm will alert you when a loss of video signal from the camera is detected.

IP Address Conflict: receive notifications when your device address conflicts with others on the network.

Network: amend port numbers for data transmission for your system.

COMM: adjust server options. We recommend leaving all default values.

Local: modify save settings of streaming data.

Record Pack Time: change the maximum duration per recorded file. Capture Path: specify a location to save frame snapshots locally.

Record Path: specific a location to save your recorded video locally.

E-mail: configure settings for sending and receiving alerts via e-mail.

Disk Management: check available microSDHC card space or format the microSDHC card. NOTE: Selecting the Format radio button and applying will reformat and erase your microSDHC card.

Overwrite: select the method in which video is recorded once the microSDHC card is full.

Maintenance: create reboot parameters and update firmware and saved settings.

Upgrade: update the firmware on your camera by browsing for it on your local microSDHC card.

Reboot: restart the system/device.

Import Settings: load previously saved system parameters.

Export Settings: export your current system settings to your microSDHC card.

Load Factory Default: revert settings back to standard values.

Maintenance: set a schedule to cycle your system by rebooting it.

8.1. Troubleshooting/FAQ

Below are some common questions to help guide you through any setup or usage issues.

My camera isn’t turning on.

Check to make sure that the micro USB connector is securely inserted into the camera body and that the USB end is firmly connected at the power adapter. If your camera still does not turn on, please contact customer support.

I can’t add the camera to the app.

1. Make sure that your camera is synced and ready to be added. See

Chapter 4 for more details.

2. Press and hold the RESET button on the camera until the light goes off. The camera should reset and can be added once the indicator light blinks red.

3. Data servers may be experiencing technical difficulties or upgrading.

Please try adding the device in the Night Owl Pro app at a later time.

The image on my mobile device/computer is upside down.

If the camera was installed upside down you can adjust the orientation in the camera or remote view settings by going to the settings,

Conditions > Flip and enabling that function.

The camera won’t record anything.

1. Make sure that your camera is on and connected. Check all connections and be sure that the device is not still in pairing mode.

2. If saving to your local device (and not a DVR) make sure that you have enough available memory.

3. Reset the device and reconnect to the app. See Chapter 5 for further detail.

How do I mount/reinstall the camera?

In the event that your camera(s) need to be remounted you can purchase any double-sided foam tape and re-install at the new desired location. It is recommended that you peel off the previous tape and residue before applying to the bottom of the camera base. Please refer to the included

Quick Setup Guide provided with your product for mounting instructions.

PT Camera Only: remove the camera from the mounted base and remove the screws holding it to the surface. Using new mounting hardware follow the installation steps as shown in the Quick Setup Guide to place the camera at a new location.

8.3. Glossary

HD: High Definition. Any video resolution at 720p or greater.

IP: Internet Protocol, a set of rules for sending data across a network.

ISP: Internet Service Provider, an organization or company that provides access to the web.

LAN: Local Area Network, a computer network optimized for transmitting data over a limited area.

PORT: a specific digital pathway that allows for sending and receiving of data.

SDHC: Secure Digital High Capacity, a type of memory card used to store data.

USB: Universal Serial Bus, standardized physical connector for passing power and data.

WAN: Wide Area Network, a computer network used to transmit data over long distances.

WiFi: wireless network.

8.4. Warranty

NIGHT OWL, LLC (‘Night Owl”) provides the following warranty to the original retail purchaser only (the “Purchaser”) with respect to this product

(the “Product”):

For a period of one (1) year after the date of sale, the Product shall be free from manufacturing defects in material and workmanship. In the event that the Product is defective, the Purchaser must return the Product at Purchaser’s cost (no CODs) to the address below, with the original proof of purchase receipt. In its sole discretion, Night Owl will either repair or replace the Product at no additional cost to the Purchaser. Any

CHAPTER 8: SUPPORT replacement Product (or parts) will be covered by the same warranty as the original Product through the expiration date of the original warranty period.

Exclusions:

This warranty does not apply to the following parts or upon the following events:

1. Bulbs, LEDs and batteries;

2. The Product was not used or installed in the manner described in the installation instructions;

3. Negligent use of the Product, or misuse or abuse of the Product;

4. Electrical short circuits or power surges;

5. Use of replacement parts not supplied by Night Owl;

6. Product is either tampered with, modified, or repaired by another service provider;

7. Product has not been maintained in accordance;

8. Accident, fire, flood or other acts of God;

9. Failure to use Night Owl approved accessories;

10. Defects or damages arising by use of the Produce in other than normal conditions (including normal atmospheric, moisture and humidity conditions).

Except as otherwise prohibited by law, this warranty is in lieu of other warranties, express or implied, and Night Owl neither assumes no authorizes any person to assume for it any other obligation or liability in connection with the sale or service of the Product.

In no event shall Night Owl be liable for any special or consequential dames arising from the use of the Product or arising from the malfunctioning or non-functioning of the Product, or for any delay in the performance of this warranty due to any cause beyond its control. This warranty shall not apply to installation or the removal and reinstallation of products after repair.

Night Owl does not make any claims or warranties of any kind whatsoever regarding the Product’s potential, ability or effectiveness to prevent, minimize, or in any way affect personal or property damage or injury.

Night Owl is not responsible for any personal damage, loss or theft related to the Product or to its use for any harm, whether physical or mental related thereto. Any and all claims or statements, whether written or verbal, by salespeople, retailers, dealers or distributors to the contrary are not authorized by Night Owl, and do not affect this provision of this warranty.
