Precautions in the Use of Wireless LAN Cards
◼ Security Issues when using wireless LAN cards
Wireless LANs use radio waves instead of LAN cable to exchange information between a PC and a wireless access point, thereby
providing the benefit of unhindered LAN connections within the range of the (wireless LAN) radio waves.
On the other hand, radio waves propagate everywhere beyond obstacles (such as walls) within a certain range, giving rise to risks
such as those described below when security settings have not been made.
• Unauthorized viewing of your data by third parties
It is possible that an ill-willed third party could deliberately intercept the radio waves of the wireless LAN and view personal information such as your ID, password, credit card number, and email message content.
• Intrusion
Ill-willed third parties could gain unauthorized access to your personal network or company intranet and take your personal
information or secret information (i.e., an information leak), send false information under the guise of a particular individual (i.e.,
identity theft), alter the content of intercepted messages (i.e., falsification), introduce computer viruses to destroy your data and/
or network system (i.e., data destruction), and commit other malicious acts.
Wireless LAN cards and wireless access points are typically provided with security provisions against these problems which
reduces the likeliness of such problems developing, provided that the security settings of the wireless LAN product have been
performed.
Keeping in mind the problems that can arise when security settings have not been performed, it is recommended that you use the
product having made the security settings with your own discretion and responsibility.
◼ Frequency-related Precautions
The frequency band used by this product is the same as that used for microwave ovens and other industrial, scientific, and
medical equipment. It also coincides with frequencies used for local radio stations (that require a license) and special low
power radio stations (that do not require a license), both of which are used for mobile identification purposes on factory
production lines.
1. Before starting to use this equipment, make sure that there are no local radio stations or special low power radio
stations for mobile identification operating in the vicinity.
2. In the event of any radio frequency interference between this equipment and a local radio station used for mobile
identification, promptly change the operating frequency of the equipment, or stop the radio wave emission and contact
us at the telephone number listed below so that we may suggest measures to avoid radio interference (such as the
installation of partitions, and other methods).
3. For protections of the equipment from radio interference with a special small power radio station for mobile
identification as well as any further information on this matter, please contact our authorized distributor in your location
where you have bought it.
4
Precautions in the Use of Wireless LAN Cards
◼ Precautions in the Use of Wireless LAN Cards
A radio station license is not required for using a wireless LAN card; however, the card should be used in conjunction with a solid understanding of the following matters:
●Do not use in the vicinity of other wireless equipment.
The equipment mentioned below might use the same radio wave band as the wireless LAN card. Using a wireless LAN card in the
vicinity of such equipment may result in a loss of data communication due to radio interference, or a decrease in communication
speed.
· Microwave ovens
· Industrial, scientific, and medical equipment
· Local radio stations used for mobile identification in factory production lines
· Special low power radio stations
●Try to avoid using cellular phones, TV, and radio in the vicinity of wireless LAN cards.
Cellular phones, TV, radio, and other equipment use a different radio wave band than wireless LAN cards and as such there will not
be an adverse effect on wireless LAN card communications, or the sending and receiving operation of such equipment; however,
the radio waves from the wireless LAN card may cause noise to appear on the audio or video.
●The radio waves of wireless LAN cards are blocked by reinforced concrete, metal, and concrete
block.
Radio waves will pass through walls and floors made of wood, and glass (with the exception of glass having an embedded metal
mesh) to permit communication; however, they will not pass through walls and floors made of reinforced concrete, metal, and
concrete block.
●Applications
This SD wireless LAN card is designed as a product for general office, home, or hobby applications and should not be used in
applications that demand higher reliability than general equipment, or in applications that demand extremely high degrees of safety
such as medical equipment.
●Usage precautions
(1) In the rare event that this SD wireless LAN card produces abnormal heating, smoke or foul odor, be certain to remove it from
the PC or other equipment. Do not use it in this condition.
(2) Never make any electrical or mechanical modifications (e.g., improvements) to the SD wireless LAN card.
(3) Be careful not to drop this SD wireless LAN card or subject it to strong shock.
(4) Handle this SD wireless LAN card with care so as not to subject it to excessive stress such as bending, etc.
●Do not leave the SD wireless LAN card within reach of infants.
There is the risk of the infant accidentally swallowing the card.
If you suspect that the card has been swallowed, contact a doctor immediately for advice.
●Permitted channels
The 2.4 GHz band is used and depending on the country or region, the channels (i.e., the subdivided actual frequency range) on
which the card can be used will differ. Please check the permitted channels according to the country and region in the table below
for the combination of this product and the included SD wireless LAN card (IEEE 802.11b/g). Check with your store of purchase

Using the Image Viewer Function
April Sales Report
Image Viewer is a function that takes the presentation documents that were created on a PC, stores
them on an SD memory card or a USB flash memory
device, and projects them with the projector.
Even without having a PC with you, Image Viewer
allows you to give a presentation with the standalone projector.
(The presentation images that have been stored on the SD memory
card or the USB flash memory device are termed slides.)
• Use the remote control for the operations of the Image Viewer function.
● You can make presentations without carrying a PC by storing slides on an SD memory
card or on a USB flash memory device.
● There is an automatic slide play and repeat function that is convenient for use in
stores.
● When looking for a certain slide, a thumbnail display mode/directory display mode allows the desired slide to be selected and displayed with a simple operation.
● SD memory cards holding digital camera photographs can also be played.
(JPEG, BMP, and PNG formats only)
■ Terminology used with Image Viewer
Slides .................................. A group of image files are called slides.
Folder .................................. A case that contains gathered slides is called a folder. A folder that contains gathered folders is called
a master folder, and may also be used to distinguish between folders.

projector.)
As an example, the default settings of the projector are as follows:
IP address:
192.168.1.10
Subnet mask:
255.255.255.0
In this case, the IP address of the PC is set as follows:
IP address:
192.168.1.xxx (Enter a decimal number in the xxx portion.)
Subnet mask:
255.255.255.0
35
Wireless LAN Settings on the PC for the Connection with the Projector
Specify a numerical value between 1 and 254 for the “xxx” portion that does not duplicate that of another network device. In the
present instance, since the IP address of the projector is “192.168.1.10”, a numerical value between 1 and 254 can be specified
for the “xxx” portion of the IP address of the PC, but “10” cannot be used because it is being used by the projector.
• The IP address of the projector can be changed using the “Wireless LAN/Network Settings” screen of the projector, or a Web
browser. For information about the settings method, see “Network Settings for the Projector” (on Page 30), and “Wireless LAN
Settings Using a Browser” (on Page 42).
• When there is a DHCP server on the network, the IP address of the projector can be allocated automatically.
• When the projector and the PC are on the same network (i.e., when the network address is the same), there are instances
where there is no setting for the Default Gateway.
* DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) performs required network settings such as the IP address for the device from the
DHCP server.
* When the projector and the PC are on different networks, the Default Gateway must be set. Please inquire with your network
administrator for details.

When a device that supports USB 2.0 is connected,
performance will be less than the transfer speed of USB 1.1 (12
Mbps).
CAUTION: USB hubs are not supported.
Troubleshooting
Problem
Image is not projected
Corrective Action
The input selection of the projector must be set to Viewer in order to display images from the
SD memory card.
To display the PC images using the network function (TAXAN Wireless Presenter):
· The input selection of the projector must be set to WIRELESS.
· The network settings of the projector and the PC must be set appropriately.
· The TAXAN Wireless Presenter utility must be started, and the IP address must be
connected to the projector on the allocated network.

Glossary
DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)
This is a function that assigns dynamic IP addresses automatically to devices connected to a network.
IEEE 802.11
This is the specification of a wireless LAN standard established by the IEEE 802.11 Commission of the Institute of Electrical &
Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE), U.S.A. which promoted the standardization of wireless LANs and received approval for it as an
international standard specification.
IP address
This is a numeric address assigned to a computer (network part) of the Internet Protocol (IP). In the exchange of data, data is
sent to the address of the sender, and data is received by the originator from the sender. It is for this reason that an individual IP
address is necessary to identify each PC that is connected by a network.
TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol)
This is a communication protocol and control system that is used to reliably send communications data over a network. A TCP
header is added to the data, IP packets are added, and a MAC frame is further added, and data is sent out over the network. The
receiving side verifies the other party and fetches the data using the process in reverse.
USB (Universal Serial Bus)
This is one serial interface standard that is used to connect a computer with peripheral devices such as a keyboard, mouse,
memory, printer, etc. If a device is plugged into a USB connector with power being supplied to the PC, the device can be used
right away because of USB support for plug-and-play.
WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)
WEP is an encryption method specified in the IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN standard.
The setting of WEP protects data from being deciphered even when the radio waves are intercepted by a third party as long as
the code is not decoded, and it also prevents against intrusion into a wireless LAN.
Encryption
Encryption is the conversion of data (into a secret code) based on an established rule. The process of creating this data is termed
encryption, and the process of returning the encrypted data to the original condition is called decryption.
If a cryptographic rule is made public, everybody who knows the rule can decipher the content of the data. To avoid this, the
rule must be changed with each encryption. A cryptographic key is used for this purpose. You cannot encrypt data or decode it
without a cryptographic key.
There are two encryption systems that use cryptographic keys: shared key encryption and public key encryption.
Ad Hoc Mode
An ad-hoc network mode is an isolated, special network mode in which data are exchanged directly among two or three wireless
LAN devices. When communication is on a one-to-one basis, the mode is called peer-to-peer.
Infrastructure Mode
This is a network mode in which data is exchanged between devices connected to a LAN (Local Area Network) via wireless LAN
access points.
Channel
Channels are single portions of a radio frequency band which can be used with a wireless LAN. The band is subdivided into 14
divisions or 11 divisions (called channels).
Wireless LAN
In the LAN connections of a wireless LAN, the wireless LAN comprises wireless LAN cards that are installed in each of the PCs,
and wireless LAN access points which are the other party for exchanged radio waves.
Wireless LAN access point
This is the connection destination of a wireless LAN device for making connection to the LAN using the infrastructure mode. It
corresponds to the hub of a wired LAN. Each individual access point is identified by an identifier (name) called an SSID. Wireless
LAN devices use the SSID to specify a particular access point to which they will connect.
