Additional safety instructions for circular saws

Wear safety glasses or goggles when operating this tool.

Wear ear protection when operating this tool.

Sawing

Do not use tools for purposes not intended; for example do not use circular saws to cut tree limbs or logs.

Always ensure that there is sufficient clearance below the material being cut. Be aware of hidden pipes and wiring when cutting flooring.

Remove all nails and metal objects from the workpiece before sawing.

Do not attempt to saw extremely small workpieces.

Always hold the tool with both hands and by

◆ the handles provided.

Never use the tool with the saw blade facing upwards or to the side.

Never put the tool down on a table or workbench before it has been switched off.

After switching off, never attempt to stop the saw blade by pressing against the side of the blade.

Immediately disconnect the cable from the mains if it is damaged or cut.

Operational protection devices

Make sure that all devices screening the saw blade are in perfect working order.

Never lock the moving guard in the open

◆ position.

Do not use the saw if the moving blade guard does not close.

If you need to move the blade guard manually, always use the guard retracting lever.

Make sure that the riving knife is correctly adjusted.

Never remove the riving knife.

Saw blade

Do not use blades which do not comply with the specifications contained in these operating

◆ instructions. Use only Black & Decker saw blades of the correct diameter, thickness and spindle speed designated for use with this unit.

Do not use blades with a body thickness greater or a width of cut smaller than the

◆ thickness of the riving knife.

Do not use saw blades made of high alloy, high speed steel (HSS steel).

Do not use metal cutting or stone cutting discs with this saw.

Only use sharp saw blades in perfect working condition; cracked or bent saw blades should be discarded and replaced at once.

Make sure that the saw blade is securely fixed and rotates in the correct direction.

Kickback

Kickback occurs when the saw begins to stall rapidly and is driven back towards the operator.

Release the switch immediately if the saw stalls.

Support large panels near the cutting area.

E N G L I S H

This tool is double insulated in accordance with EN 50144; therefore no earth wire is required.

Mains plug replacement (U.K. & Ireland only)

Replace the extension cable if damaged or defective.

When using a cable reel, always unwind the cable completely.

Use of an extension cable not suitable for the power input of the tool or which is damaged or defective may result in a risk of fire and electric shock.

Should your mains plug need replacing and you are competent to do this, proceed as instructed below. If you are in doubt, contact an authorised repair agent or a qualified electrician.

Disconnect the plug from the supply and remove the fuse from the plug.

Cut off the plug and dispose of it safely; a plug with bared copper conductors is dangerous if engaged in a live socket outlet.

Only fit 13 Amperes BS1363A approved plugs fitted with the correctly rated fuse (1).

The cable wire colours, or a letter, will be marked at the connection points of most good quality plugs. Attach the wires to their respective points in the plug (see above).

Brown is for Live (L) (2), blue is for Neutral (N) (4).

Before replacing the top cover of the mains plug ensure that the cable restraint (3) is holding the outer sheath of the cable firmly and that the leads are correctly fixed at the terminal screws.

If the plug has a fuse cover, make sure that the fuse cover is fitted. Do not use the plug if the fuse cover is missing or damaged.

◆ with the cutting line (25).

Make a test cut.

Depending on the results, adjust the position of the guides relative to the cutting line.

Dust extraction (fig. A)

An adaptor is required to connect a vacuum cleaner or dust extractor to the tool. The adaptor can be purchased from your local Black & Decker retailer.

Insert the dust extraction adaptor into the saw dust outlet (26).

Connect the vacuum cleaner hose to the adaptor.

Hints for optimum use

As some splintering along the line of cut on the top side of the workpiece cannot be avoided, cut on the side where splintering is acceptable.

Where splintering is to be minimised, e.g. when cutting laminates, clamp a piece of plywood onto the top of workpiece.

MAINTENANCE

Your Black & Decker tool has been designed to operate over a long period of time with a minimum of maintenance. Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon proper tool care and regular cleaning.

Switch the tool off, allow the blade to stop and remove the plug from the socket before carrying out any adjustment, servicing or maintenance.
