OVERVIEW
The xiHealthCheck program was created to provide several tools to both our Itron Support Team and our MV‐
90 xi 3.0 customers. During its development we identified several key areas to identify system evaluation, troubleshooting details, application updates, and a few additional tools to help resolve known problems in certain customer environments. Here are the areas of functionality implemented:
Evaluate System
This feature will determine if your system as all the prerequisites needed to properly install the MV‐90 xi 3.0 release. It also captures additional environment details specific to the proper operation and configuration of
MV‐90 xi in a log file stored in the directory xiHealthCheck is run from as “Eval.log". These details can be
shared with Itron Support to better assist you with product support issues.
Toolbox
This feature contains miscellaneous tools that we have found to be helpful in specific scenarios. Though the operations below are not harmful to your system you should not execute them unless you are advised to do so or are familiar with the issues they help address.
ItronMV90 Check – Confirms there is a valid database connection over ODBC to the MV‐90 xi database. o The ItronMV90 DSN, created at installation, is checked on the local PC.
TD_MAST Count – Checks record count of TD_MAST.v90 to ensure it is not exceeding recommended record counts. o Future enhancement to help warn of possible TD_MAST corruption.
Unblock Files – Cleans unneeded NTFS Alternate Data Streams (ADS) from the selected directory o The blocking can be applied to files downloaded from websites such as Access.Itron.com on certain operating systems policy settings, such as Windows 7 and 2008 Server. The blocking keeps .exe and .bat files from operating properly until the file is manually unblocked. This function helps make the unblock effort a little easier.
Check UAC – Display Current User Access Control (UAC) settings o A quick way to check your Windows UAC settings, where applicable, to ensure you can properly install/update applications.
Check Firewall – Display Current Firewall settings o A quick way to check if your Windows Firewall is enabled. This will only indicate if one or more of your network zones have the Firewall enabled. In other words, if you have the Firewall enabled for your Home network but not on your corporate network this check will report
Enabled.
Software Update Check
The Software Update Check will allow you to compare the currently available MV‐90 xi 3.0 downloads with your currently installed programs. It will also let you link to the Software Downloads section of the Support
Services portal of Itron Access so that you may download the file(s) needed. Please note that this will require that you already have a valid Itron Access login and that you are currently on support for the MV‐90 xi product.
The process is intended t to be as user r friendly as possible. Aft ter the first t time you e program th e intention i s to use self f‐updating fe atures to ke ep it update d as you allow.

6) Install the file in your system as needed. If you are unsure of the location the file should be extracted
into please review the “ Changes Notes” from the “Additional Support Files” section at the bottom of the of the UpdateLog page
7) Rerun the “Software Update Check” via the utility.
8) Observe that the default web browser loads again but this time the update you just copied in is no in sync and grayed out with matching version numbers displayed.
9) Close the browser tab/window.
10) Select “Exit” on the utility.
11) In the MV‐90 xi directory (same directory the xiHealthCheck program was run), there will be an
“UpdateLog.hta” and “Eval.log” files for review and if there are any issues.
NOTE:
If there are any cases where a version number cannot be found on it will be noted as “unknown” in the
Software Update Check results page. This is because there are a few older files that did not have proper file version stamps applied.
Settings Menu
We are adding in settings to this utility where needed so that you can have more control over its operation.
Software Update Path – Populated automatically if left blank by finding the proper MV‐90 xi path on the current system if possible. This setting will allow you to browse to (or key‐in) another valid path on your system or network where you could validate updates for another directory. This is helpful if sharing the MV‐90 xi root folder of several clients where an administrator could simply check those shares from a single PC one at a time or to validate the xiServ /update subdirectory if in use.
Check the following files – We always check for every file listed in the MFD, but now you can choose to include/exclude TIMs from the results.
Results Options – When checked, the files already up‐to‐date on the system are not displayed on the result page; otherwise they are displayed but grayed out in color. This really cleans up the results so you can see just what updates are needed.
