Superior print quality – HP’s ImageRet 2400 technology consistently delivers
output with sharper text and graphics, and smoother, more-uniform solid areas. As
you can see in the output comparison, the Brother output has more noticeable
streaking (horizontal) and banding (vertical) and problems with generating accurate
colors in sections of the page. If print quality and copy quality are important, test your
own samples on both devices and compare the results.
Fast warm-up time – From Powersave mode, the HP Color LaserJet 2840 AiO
Brother output
prints the first page in 29 seconds, compared to Brother’s 80 seconds.1 This
performance advantage is due to HP’s Instant-On Technology which eliminates delays
for fuser warm-up from Powersave mode.

cartridge that costs $504 and a fuser for $577.2 These expenses may be an
important consideration if the customer plans to stock a set of consumables. Brother
users also have to replace a separate toner waste kit every 3,000 color pages, which
is not required on the HP Color LaserJet 2840 AiO. When you include these parts in
cost per page comparison, HP is 10% lower than Brother.2
More toner in the box – The HP Color LaserJet 2840 AiO ships with with more
Cyan, Magenta and Yellow toner that the Brother MFC-9420CN. HP ships toner for
4,000 CMY pages, while Brother includes toner for only 3,000 CMY pages – the
difference is a value of about $75 based on the cost of Brother toner cartridges.2
Both printers ship with 5,000 pages of black toner.
