Fire Rated

Bonaire Ducted Evaporative Air Conditioning

Fire Rated EAC

Introduction

This product has been provided with a butterfly closer (Enviroseal) to comply with The Australian

Standards AS3959-2009 Construction of Buildings in bushfire prone areas. Additionally ember protection consisting of stainless steel mesh is provided as a cover over the filters of the unit.

These product enhancements enable the product to comply with the requirements of

AS3959 - 2009:

BAL - 12.5

BAL - 19

BAL – 29

Achieving the fire rating BAL Codes listed above requires the Enviroseal to be fitted in accordance with its installation instructions (provided with the Enviroseal).

Note that BAL – 40 and BAL – FZ do not permit the installation of roof mounted evaporative air conditioners.

The enhanced unit for BAL – 12.5, BAL – 19 & BAL – 29 is identified with a sticker as shown below.

To account for the losses in air flow with the butterfly closer (Enviroseal) and the ember screen fitted, consideration should be given in the system design and unit size selection to accommodate losses. Air flow losses could be as high as 20% depending on the system design.

Maintenance Requirements

As the aperture size of the mesh hole is very small, there is the potential for frequent maintenance to the ember screen to maintain maximum air flow.

The fitting of the ember screen along with the Enviroseal does give the unit a slight reduction in air flow. If there is blocking of the ember protector, there will be a noticeable decrease in the availability of air indicating the requirement to service the ember screen / filters.

Subject to environmental conditions, ember screen / filter maintenance could be required at least monthly during the operational period.

There are 2 levels of service that can be used:

1

2

Using a garden hose, pressure wash out any excess debris to clear the aperture holes.

Completely remove the ember protector from the louvers panel assembly and clean.
