system board, the M166ST supports a maximum of

his document updates information contained in the Dell
Latitude XPi CD Reference and Troubleshooting Guide.
Instructions for installing memory modules are
included in memory upgrade kits.
Interchanging Hard-Disk Drives
To see possible memory configurations for the Latitude
XPi CD M166ST, search on “memory module configurations” in the online System User’s Guide. To see the
memory technical specifications, search on “memory
specifications.”
CAUTION for WINDOWS 95 USERS!
The Microsoft® Windows® 95 operating system
does not support the interchange of hard-disk
drives between Dell Latitude XPi CD computers.
Do not interchange drives between Latitude XPi
CD computers unless you also reinstall the operating system and all software applications.
Interchanging hard-disk drives between computers could result in the loss of data and the
corruption of the hard-disk drive.
New Microprocessor Option
The Dell Latitude XPi CD computer is now available with a
166-megahertz (MHz) Intel® Pentium® microprocessor
with MMX™ technology.
Current application programs not designed specifically for
MMX technology should have a slight improvement in
performance when run on a system with a Pentium microprocessor with MMX technology. Software written
specifically to take advantage of MMX technology (which
will be labeled “Designed for Intel MMX”) will have a
greater improvement in performance, depending on the type
of application program.
The Pentium microprocessor with MMX technology has
twice the internal cache memory (32 kilobytes [KB]) as the
standard Pentium microprocessor.
To see the technical specifications of the new microprocessor, search on “microprocessor specifications” in the
online Dell Latitude XPi CD User’s Guide. The online guide
is in the Dell Accessories folder or program group.
The new Dell Latitude XPi CD M166ST has the following
features:
•
•
A Texas Instruments PCI 1131 CardBus controller. To
see the PC Card technical specifications, search on “PC
Card specifications” in the online System User’s Guide.
•
A NeoMagic 2093 video controller. To see the video
subsystem technical specifications, search “video specifications” in the online System User’s Guide.
•
An ESS 1887 audio controller. To see the audio subsystem technical specifications, search “audio
specifications” in the online System User’s Guide.
In all other respects, the Latitude XPi CD M166ST has the
same features as the Latitude XPi CD P150ST.
Setup Program Changes
The following information updates Chapter 2, “Customizing System Features,” in the Reference and Troubleshooting
Guide.
The UNIVERSAL CONNECT option on Page 2 of the System
Setup program functions with the Dell Latitude Ethernet
Advanced Port Replicator if the computer uses the
Microsoft Windows 95 operating system.
Set this category to ENABLED (the default) if you often use
more than one Ethernet replicator and want to minimize the
initialization time when you connect the replicator to the
computer. When this category is set to DISABLED, the replicator is reinitialized each time it is connected to the
computer.
The UNIVERSAL CONNECT option is supported by both the
Latitude XPi CD M166ST and the Latitude XPi CD
P150ST.
Support for 32-megabyte (MB) memory modules. With
the 16 MB of standard nonremovable memory on the
