Classic Elegance … like never before
Media Room: Electronics Guide
We understand that for technology to be useful, its complexity must be invisible to
the user. Accordingly, at Crescendo we strive to make your experience with our
technology as simple and as intuitive as possible. This Guide, in fact, was
developed using our guests’ feedback. We invite your feedback, as well, so that
we may continue to enhance the experience of those who share Crescendo with us.
What follows, then, is the simplest and most efficient way to use the various media
sources in Crescendo’s Theatre: XM, iPhone, Your PC, TV, Local DVD, Movies.
The projector
- will play movies via the Media Server locked in the equipment room;
- will play local DVD/BluRay movies (i.e., those you bring) through the DVD
player located in the drawer under the screen (to the left);
- will play High Definition TV;
- will project/play presentations from your laptop (for Corporate Retreats only).
Projectors, though, do not work like traditional TVs. They take about 3 minutes to
warm up, and they take about 3 minutes to cool down. If the projector is turned
off, even momentarily, it will take about 6 minutes before it will again be
operational (i.e., 3 minutes to cool down, 3 minutes to restart).
The THX amplifier to the theatre room is quite powerful, and it takes a short
moment to warm up. It is, therefore, not as instantly responsive as the other music
zones throughout the home.
Also, we strongly suggest that you turn off all of the equipment in the Media Room
when it is not in use. Go to the “Source” screen. For all equipment except the
Projector, it is a simple one button press: “Equip Off”. Following, press the
“Projector Off” button (sometimes you have to press the button twice in
succession). Doing so will minimize the possibility that the projector’s bulb will
burn-out during your visit.
To Listen to XM
- When listening/controlling XM, use the Touchpanel only (i.e., not the Universal
Remote or the Tablet).
- Press “Sources” on the Touchpanel. A list of sources will be displayed (e.g.,
XM, TV, Movies).
- Press “XM” on the Touchpanel. At that button press, the XM radio turns on at a
preset volume. Also, the XM music categories will be displayed, and after 5minutes the projector will turn itself off. Until the projector turns off, though,
you will see the XM information displayed on the screen (i.e., song title, artist,
genre, and more).
- We suggest you then choose a category and then a station. You may, though, use
the separate channel/category button to search for your favorite station; or to
view the information about the song/artist playing at the time.
- Remember, the XM is receiving the US signal, not the Canadian signal, so the
channel lineup may be different from you may be used to. A list of stations may
be found at http://www.siriusxm.com/sxm/pdf/xm/channelguide.pdf, or at the
link to Crescendo’s files on our FAQ page.
To Listen to music on your iPhone/iPod
- When listening/controlling your iPhone/iPod, use the Touchpanel only (i.e., not
the Universal Remote or the Tablet).
- Your iPhone/iPod should already be plugged into the iPort dock (on the kitchen
counter).
- Press “Sources” on the Touchpanel. A list of sources will be displayed (e.g.,
XM, TV, Movies).
- Press “iPort” on the Touchpanel. At that button press, the iPort turns on at a
preset volume, and the screen will change to the familiar iPhone/iPod interface,
with your iPhone/iPod data displayed.
To Present through your own PC/Tablet
- This option is only for Events and Corporate Retreats. The power module to
activate an HDMI connection to Crescendo’s equipment, in fact, is only made
available to those groups upon request.
- For presentations, use the Touchpanel only (i.e., not the Universal Remote or the
Tablet).
- Press “Sources” on the Touchpanel. A list of sources will be displayed (e.g.,
XM, TV, Movies).
- Press “Your PC” on the Touchpanel.
- Plug the HDMI cable we provide into your powered off PC/Tablet.
- Power on your PC/Tablet. When started this way, most PCs will automatically
sense our screen’s resolution and adjust. If your PC does not automatically
sense/adjust to 720p, you will need to adjust your PC manually.
To Watch TV
- When watching TV in the Media Room, first sync both the Touchpanel and the
Universal Remote by doing the following.
. On the Touchpanel, press “Sources.” A list of sources will be displayed.
. On the Touchpanel, press “TV. At that button press, the amplifier will change to
the TV source at a preset volume and the projector will turn on.
. On the Universal Remote, press “Watch” and then press “TV.”
- If the TV does not come on, it may be that the cable box (locked in the equipment
room) is turned off (e.g., by a momentary power outage). You can turn that box
on by using the “Power” button (not the “on” button) on the Universal Remote.
- You can then control the TV using the Universal Remote.
To Watch a Local DVD (inside the top left cabinet drawer under the screen)
- When watching one of your DVDs in the Media Room, first sync both the
Touchpanel and the Universal Remote by doing the following.
. On the Touchpanel, press “Sources.” A list of sources will be displayed.
. On the Touchpanel, press “Local DVD.” At that button press, the amplifier will
change to that source at a preset volume and the projector will turn on.
. On the Universal Remote, press “Watch” and then press “LCL DVD.”
- Place your DVD in the local DVD player, and control the DVD via the Universal
Remote.
To Watch a Movie
- At any time, without turning on the projector and without doing any of the steps
below, you can browse and search our entire movie collection:
. via the tablet (on the bar), or
. via any web browser (http://c.mymovies.dk/perlman, password is 2504486299).
- To watch a Movie in the Media Room, first sync both the Touchpanel and the
Universal Remote by doing the following.
. On the Touchpanel, press “Sources.” A list of sources will be displayed.
. On the Touchpanel, press “Movies.” At that button press, the amplifier will
change to that source at a preset volume and the projector will turn on.
. On the Universal Remote, press “Watch” and then press “Movies.”
- There are two very different ways to browse/select/control movies: via the
Universal Remote and via the Tablet (on the bar). An explanation of each follows.
The easiest method to use, though, which is also the one we recommend, is the
following:
. browse through the movies using the Tablet
. start the movie using the Tablet (i.e, press play)
. control your movie experience (i.e., pause, stop, etc) using the Universal Remote.
Browse/Search Movies: Using the Tablet
At any time, without turning on the projector and without syncing the Touchpanel
and the Universal Remote, you can browse and search our entire movie collection:
- via the tablet or
- via any web browser (http://c.mymovies.dk/perlman, password is 2504486299).
Before actually playing a movie, though, you’ll need to sync the Touchpanel and
the Universal Remote per the above.
The only app not locked-out is the MyMovies app, which can be found on the
Tablet’s home screen or under “Favorites.” After the MyMovies app launches,
you can scroll through the movies. The only relevant tab from the MyMovies app
is the “My Collection” app (far left, top of screen). Please refrain from using the
other tabs, which can cause the server to lock-up and/or disable the tablet during
your stay.
Touching a movie jacket will bring up a description of that movie (and more).
- If you prefer to continue looking through the collection,
press the back icon on the Tablet.
- If you would like to play that movie, press the information icon top right
and press “Play on Media Center.” You can then control the movie using the
Universal Remote, as we recommend against controlling the movie using the
Tablet.
- To return to the movie collection screen on the Tablet, press the Tablet’s back
icon or touch the “My Collection” tab on the top of the MyMovies program.
----------------------------------------------
Browse/Search Movies: Using the Universal Remote
Unlike browsing our movie collection using the Tablet or via the web, browsing
our movie collection using the Universal Remote requires a) that the Touchpanel
and the Universal Remote first be synced (per the above instruction), and b) that
the projector be on. You can then
- browse our movie collection by Title,
- browse our movie collection by Genre, or
- search our movie collection by activating the on-screen keyboard.
All three of these methods for browsing/searching are less efficient than using the
Tablet. They are available to you, nonetheless.
To bring up the on-screen keyboard, using the Universal Remote
- scroll to the “search movies” screen (Media Strip – third tab on the right),
- press the middle “SEL” button twice in rapid succession.
Media Room: Trouble Shooting
Picture but No Sound
Someone used the Tablet Remote, and turned down the Volume (a No, No).
On the Tablet, go to the Remote screen (far right, top of screen),
- turn the Volume control to its maximum (top right of movie screen will say 50).
- Once the Media Center Volume is set to maximum,
use the Touchpanel or the Universal Remote, ONLY, to control the volume.
Sound but No Picture
- If the power light on the projector light is green, all is fine. Just toggle the fast
forward button on the remote for a second. The picture should then come on.
- If the power light on the projector light is yellow, all is still fine. Just press the
“back” button on the Universal Remote (but NOT on the Tablet’s Remote
screen), and again press “Movies.” When turning on, the power light on the
projector will flash yellow.
- If the power light on the projector light is solid red, you’ll need to call the
property manager to come over and install a new projector bulb.
Double Image
If, after starting a movie, the Media Center strip shows through the movie, after
about 30 seconds it will right itself. You can also, though, press the “back” button
on the Universal Remote.
Server Freezes
If the server freezes, try resetting the system
- by pressing the “back” button on the Universal Remote, and again press
“Movies,” or
- by pressing “Reset” on the Universal Remote.
We are committed to making your experience at Crescendo nothing short of
delightful. It is with great pleasure that we present for your enjoyment,
C
rescendo.
