2. Safety Information
For Household Use Only
When using the vacuum cleaner, basic safety precautions should always be observed, including the following:

WARNING: Do not use outdoors or on wet surfaces.
1.
Do not charge the unit outdoors.
2.
Turn off the vacuum cleaner control before connecting or disconnecting from the mains supply.
3.
Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
4.
This appliance is not intended for use by persons
(including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by person responsible for their safety.
5.
Use only as described in this manual. Use only the manufacturer’s recommended attachments.
6.
Do not use with damaged cord or plug. If the appliance is not working, as it should, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped into water, return it to a Vax Authorised Service Agent or suitably qualified person for examination, repair or adjustment.
7.
Do not abuse the cord. Keep the cord away from heated surface. Do not pull the cord around sharp edges or corners. Do not close the cord in a door.
8.
Do not handle the plug or appliance with wet hands.
9.
This product contains a rechargeable lead acid battery. Do not throw batteries into fire or expose them to high temperatures, as they may burst.
10. Do not use with any opening blocked; keep free of dust, lint, hair, and anything that may reduce airflow.
11. Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers and all parts of the body away from openings and moving parts.
12. Do not pick up hot coals, cigarette butts, matches or anything hot, smoking or burning objects.
13. Do not pick up flammable or combustible materials
(lighter fluid, petrol, kerosene, etc) or use in the presence of explosive liquids or vapour.
14. Do not vacuum up harmful or toxic material (chlorine bleach, ammonia, drain cleaner, etc).
15. Do not use without the filter in place.
16. Do not vacuum up hard or sharp objects such as glass, mails, screws, coins, etc.
17. Turn off all controls before unplugging.
18. Take extra care when cleaning on stairs
19. Store the appliance indoors in a cool, dry area.
20. Use only the charge supplied by the manufacturer to recharge.
IMPORTANT: For dry debris use only.

WARNING: Always switch off and unplug the hand vac from the electrical outlet before assembling, opening or emptying the dirt container, or before connecting/disconnecting the attachments.

IMPORTANT: Washing filters improves the hand vac performance. Make sure all the filters are completely dry before inserting back into the hand vac.
This hand vac is intended for household use only and not for commercial or industrial use.

3. Storage/ Charging 4. How to Operate
Designed to sit in the charging base on a flat surface or wall mountable.

IMPORTANT: Use only the charger supplied.
The V-031 is operated by rechargeable lead-acid batteries.
Before using the appliance for the first time, the batteries have to be charged for at least 16 hours. Place the appliance into the charging unit (Fig.3/1)
To turn the appliance on and off
To turn the appliance on, slide the on/off switch into the
‘on’ position.
To turn the appliance off, slide the on/off switch into the
‘off’ position (Fig.4/1).

NOTE: Do not forget to set the on/off switch (B) to the
‘off’ position before charging begins.
The red charging indicator LED (A) lights up to show that the appliance is seated correctly in the charging unit and that charging has begun. Replace the appliance into the charging unit when not in use, so it is always fully charged
(Fig.3/2).

Battery charge status
The four green LEDs (A) indicate the remaining battery charge. If all four LEDs light up, the batteries are fully charged.
The fewer LED indicators that light up, the lower the remaining battery charge. If only one LED lights up, the battery charge is low and the appliance should be recharged. The batteries can be re-charged 300-350 times.

The crevice tool (A) and dusting brush (B) can be inserted into the front nozzle (C) (Fig.4/2) .

To obtain the best performance from the appliance, empty the dust container and clean the filter (A) after every use.
To open the front nozzle, press the release button (B) and remove the dust container.
Take out the filter (A) and empty the dust container. Rinse the filter in cold water; once completely dry, replace the filter into the dust container and re-attach the front nozzle
(Fig.4/3).

5. Battery Disposal
Your hand held vac contains a lead-acid battery.
When this battery will no longer recharge or you want to dispose of the vacuum cleaner, call the Vax Careline on 0870 606 1248 for correct removal and disposal of the batteries.
Waste electrical products should not be disposed of with household waste.
See Fig 5/1-5/3 for battery location.

6. Troubleshooting
!
WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury, unplug the vacuum cleaner before performing maintenance or troubleshooting checks.
PROBLEM: Hand Vac won't run
Cause: Battery not charged.
Solution: Charge battery. For first use charge for at least 16 hours. Power switch must be in the
‘OFF’ position when charging. if the charge indicator on charger lights up, the battery is charging.
Cause: Contacts between unit and base are dirty.
Solution: Wipe dirt from contacts.
Cause: On/off switch not turned on.
Solution: Push on/off button to ‘on’.
Cause: No electricity in the electrical outlet.
Solution: Check fuse/breaker. Replace fuse or reset.
Cause: Power cord not firmly pushed into electrical outlet.
Solution: Plug unit in firmly.

PROBLEM: Hand Vac won’t pick up/loss of suction.
Cause: Nozzle / dirt passage clogged.
Solution: Remove obstruction.
Cause: Filter is clogged.
Solution: Clean filter and replace.
Cause: Battery charge is getting weak.
Solution: Charge battery.
Cause: Dirt container is full.
Solution: Empty dirt container.
Cause: Filter is dirty.
Solution: Clean or replace filter.
PROBLEM: Battery won’t charge.
Cause: Power button is in the ‘ON’ position.
Solution: Press the power button to ‘OFF’ position. In charge indicator on charger lights up, the battery is charging.
