The Phytec phyCAm concept easily fulfills the requirements of compact and customized system solutions.

The standardized phyCAm interfaces offer a combination of scalable microcontroller-

Soms and matching imaging components. This way we are able to provide you with a complete system that is perfectly adapted to your application.

Individualization - the key to successful Products

Besides image acquisition there are usually additional requirements for an embedded solution. Typically features such as motor control systems, GPS, Audio, CAn or I/o-lines are required.

Furthermore we need to customize the hardware to mechanical dimensions. With the concept of a Som and an application specific carrier board we are able to meet these requirements. The graphic below shows that the development workflow of a customized system can be broken down into six easily manageable steps.

This potential for individualization is the key component of your concept. It is the distinguishing factor in matters of standard, ready-made components.

Interfaces to your Software

The phyCAm concept already offers support for application software at the operating system level. The necessary drivers for camera sensors and the controller camera interface are integrated in our BSPs. For example for Embedded Linux the V4L2-Interface standard is used.

Flexible, Modular Digital Imaging Solution

The phyCAm line offers easy integration of camera sensors into embedded microprocessor systems. Phytec offers two interface options: to integrate a camera. data and control signals are transmitted via a 33-pin FFC cable.

This reduces the interface effort to a minimum, while offering compatibility with other camera types. phyCAm-P cameras are fully compatible with phyCoRE ® Soms. eight leads, and can have a length of up to six meters (20 ft) to allow for more separation between the camera head and the control device. Various phyCARd ® and phyFLEX ® Soms are compatible with the phyCAm-S.

The phyCAM concept makes image data easily available for the application software. data processing can easily and efficiently be executed by the use of off-shelf image processing libraries. This way you can take advantages of our modular hardware as well as standard software solutions.

Examples

OpenCV our camera drivers are compatible with openCV, a free software library with more than 2,500 algorithms for fast image processing. You can easily integrate openCV into your application software in order to process image data. This software is available on a free BSd licence base.

HALCON embedded The powerful image processing software HALCon embedded simplefies the development of efficient applications easy. In partnership with mVTec

Phytec offers a new way to implement industry-proven algorithms on selected microcontroller modules. HALCon offers algorithms in professionally maintained libraries as well as a convenient, graphically programming environment.

CUREtIS UNYVERO

The Unyvero™ Solution shortens the diagnosis of severe bacterial infections to a few hours.

Curetis´ universal sample preparation technology prepares dnA from many native samples in a few minutes - without the need for timeconsuming pre-culturing of the sample. Also, Curetis´ technology uniquely addresses the analysis of antibiotic resistances in addition to bacteria detection.

Phytec developed the imaging system and the control units of the devices in close cooperation with Curetis. The control units consist of several phyCARd – modules and an application-specific carrier board.

The imaging system is based on a standard Vm-010 camera module. Phytec developed a specific LEd lightening module for probe illumination.

The modular design allows the re-use of several components in different devices which accelerated the design process and therefore reduced time-to-market significantly.

Development Kits with Digital Cameras for Embedded Imaging get started with an Embedded Imaging Kit

Phytec Embedded Imaging Kits include all necessary components for an embedded system with integrated digital imaging.

Our kits enable customers to create their own individual digital imaging solutions fast and effectively. Even during the design phase, camera options can be adapted to system requirements due to the flexibility of the standardized camera interface.

The unified bus system of the phyCARd ® and phyFLEX ® concept also enables scaling of the computing power within systems that utilize our imaging hardware.

Software Drivers are included

our Embedded Imaging Kits include the appropriate software drivers to access the camera modules from customer application software. depending on the operating system, camera drivers can be accessed via the Linux V4L2 interface or Windows CE DirectShow.

Kit software contains demo applications to test the functions of integrated cameras and display captured images.

Images or image sequences can be saved in various formats.

For Linux, demo applications are based on the popular GStreamer framework. For Windows Embedded we provide demo applications with C++ source code.

Camera boards with phyCAm interface easily connect to the digital camera interface of the Phytec microcontroller board. It offers simple integration of camera technology for compact, customer specific products.

High Flexibility – Simple Customization

You can easily exchange both mircocontroller Soms and camera boards. This enables you to perfectly customize your solution to the requirements of the application. due to the compatible phyCAm interface, all cameras can be interchanged – even during design phase. All camera boards are standardized in size and have the same mounting points. We offer these cameras with and without C/CS mount or M12 lens mount. Therefore you can easily adapt the camera to the optical requirements of your application.

Software Drivers are Included

The board support packages (BSPs) of the compatible phyCORE

®

Soms already include the appropriate software drivers for the cameras.

Therefore, the cameras can be easily integrated into software applications for Windows

Embedded CE or Embedded Linux. You can access the camera drivers via Linux V4L2 interface or via GStreamer.

Analog Video Converter

PAL / NTSC Digitizer for Microcontroller SOMs

The video converter with four signal inputs and phyCAm-P as well as phyCAm-S interface offers integration of analog video sources in embedded imaging systems.

This converter (color-framegrabber) digitalizes analog video signals (TV systems PAL and nTSC) into a digital data stream. The phyCAm-S and phyCAm-P interface transfers the digital image data to the processor board as ITU-R 601 or ITU-R 656 YCbCr (4:2:2) data stream.

The converter is well suited for applications that already have analog cameras or where the distance to the camera is very high. Typical applications are surveillance systems, special purpose vehicles and the integration of analog image sources such as ultrasonic equipment.

USB Cameras for Industrial Applications

The USB-CAm series addresses industrial applications. They can be connected with a few simple steps to any computer providing an USB interface. due to the small metal housing

(only 36 mm x 36 mm x 25mm) with mounting threads on all four sides, USB-CAms can be mounted in almost all locations. We also offer the cameras without housing in volumes.

due to its excellent price performance ratio, system desigers can implement this 5-megapixel camera in locations where only cameras with lower resolutions have been used so far. You can easily adjust the image resolution by software to adapt the camera to various tasks.

The pan and scan feature offers adjustment of the active field of view without any mechanical adjustments. The new 1080p as well as 720p Hd formats offer excellent camera image adjustment to 16:9 screens.

Software Drivers and Demo Software are included

Shipment includes drivers for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7.

The USB-CAm is compatible to all software that uses the directX-interface. The free

SdK enables implementation into your own applications.

We also include a demo software for Windows that simplifies start-up. If you like to use Linux the free UVC interface drives gives access the camera. Therefore you can also connect these cameras to selected Phytec microcontroller boards with Embedded Linux via

V4L2.

the One for All - Concept

You can easily adjust the USB-CAM series cameras to their tasks with our software. The table on the right shows all resolutions can be adjusted with software:

• Region of interest (ROI)

The image is read from a part of the camera sensor only. Please note the virtually smaller

sensor size when selecting lenses. RoI increases the possible frame rate (fps).

• Binning

Binning combines several adjacent pixels into a single pixel and therefore increases sensitivity.

The pciGrabber-4x4 is the flagship product of our framegrabber line for standard PC systems.

Because it features four independent video decoders, this framegrabber card can digitalize four image sources in parallel. The pciGrabber-4x4 can easily be extended to 16 input channels by adding an expansion card.

With its even and shadow-free illumination the ring light CLS49 offers ideal conditions for reliable operation of image processing systems. The ring light can be perfectly adjusted to the task by the usage of additional lens rings. The focusing lens ring concentrates the light to a defined area. You can achieve an uniform as well as low-reflectance illumination with the diffuser lenses.

The brightness can be adjusted by a trimmer on the backside of the ring light. The integrated regulator will keep the brightness constant within a wide input voltage range. We also offer unregulated versions.

Clamping screws offer simple mounting on the camera lens.

The lenses offer manually adjustable apertures.

Fixing screws offer locking of the adjustment rings. The zoom and vario lenses are well suited for applications that require exact adjustment of the image section or for applications for which the object size changes often.
