The purpose of this document is to provide a complete wiring description,
of the selected JACQUES product.
It shows cable connections, wiring diagrams and any other details that
are required to correctly install this product.
Due to its highly technical nature, this document is intended to be used
by suitably qualified Technicians or Engineers.

RS485 SLAVE OPTIONS
RS485 SLAVE OPTIONS
There are three (3) wiring options available for the JACQUES RS485
Slave, and must be quoted when ordering them. The options are:
1) RS485 SLAVE OPTION 1: (page 5)
The Slave comes with two on-board Combicon connectors (J14,
J15). These connectors allow connection to two Auxiliary Audio
Channels.
2) RS485 SLAVE OPTION 2: (page 5)
The Slave comes with two on-board Combicon connectors (J14,
J15). These connectors allow connection to two Auxiliary Audio
Channels, as well as the provision for the Microphone Output
audio signal.
3) RS485 SLAVE OPTION 3: (page 10)
The Slave comes with one on-board Combicon connector (J14).
It does not have the facility for Auxiliary Audio Channels or
Microphone Output audio signal. Power is supplied to the Slave via
this one connector.

WIRING – (OPTIONS 1 and 2)
Connections
The JACQUES RS485 Slaves are connected directly to a separate JACQUES
Controller, or daisy-chained to another RS485 Slave.
Figure 1 shows the wiring connections from the RS485 Slave, using the two PCB
connectors (J14, J15).

Note #1: Cat-5, 4-pair data cable
This Cat-5 cable can either be:
• Star-Wired directly into the Slave Port of a JACQUES Controller
• Daisy-Chained wired into another RS485 Slave, which eventually is
connected back into the Slave Port of a JACQUES Controller
! The Green/White and Green pair is not used.
A maximum of up to 32, RS485 Slaves can be wired on a single data run. Any
more than 32 Slaves, requires additional JACQUES Repeaters to be added to the
system.

Note #2:
Single-pair shielded cable (Refer to Figure 1, previous page)
This cable is only connected when the Microphone Output is used, (on the RS485
SLAVE OPTION 2).
The Microphone Output is a feature of the RS485 Slaves, which is ONLY available
as a factory option (OPTION 2) and must be specified when ordering.
If Microphone Output is used, this cable is Star-Wired directly wired into an Audio
Recorder or Audio Monitoring Device. (Refer to Figure 3)
! The Microphone Ground Shield should be connected at the Audio Recording
Device only.
! The Microphone Output cables are NOT to be wired into a Controller.
Note #3: Fig-8 cable
This Fig-8 type cable is specifically used for wiring up the Slave’s power supply
cables (+ve 20V DC, Ground).
The cross sectional area of the cable used depends on the total number of Slaves
used and the length of the cable run.
The longer the cable run, the larger the cross-sectional area of the Fig-8 cable must
be. (Refer to Table 3, Page 14 for specifications on power-supply cable area)
This Fig-8 power supply cable can either be:
• Star-Wired directly into the 20V DC power-supply connections
• Daisy-Chained wired into another RS485 Slave, which eventually is
connected back into the 20V DC power-supply connections
Note #4: 2-pair shielded audio cable
This cable is used for the distribution of the two Auxiliary Audio Channels (Aux
Audio Ch#1, Aux Audio Ch#2).
Only 2-pair type shielded audio cable is used – Do not use Cat-5 type cable. It
makes servicing a lot easier with 1x Cat-5 and 1x Audio cable, rather than having 2x
Cat-5 cables.
This 2-pair shielded audio cable can either be:
• Star-Wired directly into the Slave Port of a JACQUES Controller
• Daisy-Chained wired into another RS485 Slave, which originated from the
Slave Port of a JACQUES Controller

Wiring Diagram
The following Figure 2 shows the wiring diagram of the cables from the RS485 Slave
to the Concentrator, using the two PCB connectors (J14 and J15).
! The Audio Shield is not connected at the Slave, but is connected to the 0V at the
Controller end.
These shields need to be connected through if Daisy-Chained.

Auxiliary Audio Channels
The Auxiliary Audio Channels (Aux Audio CH#1, Aux Audio Ch#2) are wired using 2pair shielded audio cable, with the following colour codes:
• Use Blue and Blue/White colours for Channel #1
• Use Orange and Orange/White for Channel #2
! The Audio Shield is not connected at the Slave, but is connected to the 0V at the
Controller end.
These shields need to be connected through if Daisy-Chained.
Microphone Output (OPTION 2 only)
Refer to Figure 3.
The Microphone Output is only available as a feature on the RS485 Slaves
OPTION 2 and must be specified when ordering.
If using an OPTION 2 board, the Microphone Outputs can be directly wired into an
external Audio Recorder or Monitoring device.
This allows direct monitoring of the call Send and Receive conversations.
Note that the output signal is a Balanced Audio, Line-Level output.

Connections
The JACQUES RS485 Slaves are connected directly to a separate JACQUES
Controller, or daisy-chained to another RS485 Slave.

Power Supply Wiring – (All OPTIONS)
Power Supply Wiring
When wiring up the JACQUES RS485 Slaves, be sure to use the correct Fig-8
cable, cross-sectional area for the power-supply cable run.
The Slave power-supply cable cross sectional area depends on the total number of
Slaves used and the total length of the cable.
The following Table 3 shows the cross sectional area of the cable than needs to be
used in number/length situations.

Configuration – (All OPTIONS)
DIP Switch settings
Each individual RS485 Slave requires it to have a specific Address identifier
number. It is used to identify itself to the rest of the system.
The Address number is set by the DIP Switches (Figure 4), found on the board of the
RS485 Slaves. Refer to Table 3 for value details.
The Address number can be a number between (and including) 1 and 255. The
number is coded using the Binary number system.

DIP Switch Table
The DIP Switches (SW1) are used to set an Address number between (and
including) 1 and 255.
The Address values are set up using the Binary number system.
