Configure Windows 7 for the WLANs
DESY and eduroam.
WLAN Configuration
Since the WLANs DESY and eduroam do not differ apart from their name (the SSIDs), and since
the configuration is the same, in the following only „DESY“ will be mentioned. If you would like to
establish a WLAN connection to WLAN eduroam, it is sufficient to change the term „DESY“ for
„eduroam” in the configuration.
If both WLANs shall be installed, it is recommended to place the WLAN DESY in the list of the
WLAN profiles above the WLAN profile eduroam. The advantage of this is that the internal WLAN
DESY will be used first, before the WLAN eduroam.
Note:
In the following we assume that the device is in reach of the WLANs DESY and
eduroam.
To use the WLAN DESY (internal network) the WLAN-MAC address of the device
has to be registered by a network segment administrator.
First you have to make sure that your Wireless network card is active. The procedure can be
varying from device to device. The user guide of your notebook provides help on this.
Click on the „WLAN/LAN symbol“ in the start bar
/
and open the „Network and Sharing
Center“ → „manage wireless networks“ → „add“ and choose „Manually connect to a wireless
network“.

Confirm your input with „Next“.
„Change connection settings“ will direct you to the properties of the wireless network.

The network authentication method „Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP)“ has already been
selected. To avoid indicating your WLAN password each time on dial-up we recommend to activate
the option „Remember my credentials for this connection each time I’m logged on“. Then click
on „Settings“.

The option „Validate server certificate“ should be activated. Set a mark in the list of „Trusted Root
Certification Authorities“ for the certificate „Deutsche Telekom Root CA 2“. The authentication
method „Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)“ is maintained. Click „Configure...“ to enter the
EAP-MSCHAPv2 properties.
Deactivate the option „Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and
Domain, if any)“. Close both windows by clicking „OK“ and click on „Advanced settings“.

The system now tries to connect automatically to the WLAN without asking for the credentials.
Disconnect this connection manually.
A left-click on the „WLAN/LAN symbol“ in the taskbar the list of WLANs opens. But it happens
sometimes that the list of WLANs is not shown. In this case right-click the „WLAN/LAN symbol“
which will direct you to the→ „network and sharing center“ click then on → „manage network
connection “ you will see the list.
Start the dial-up connection again.
Indicate in the log-in screen your DESY user name followed by„@desy.de“ and your WLAN
password. Confirm with „OK“.
The connection to the WLAN will now be activated.
