Important Safety Warnings
[Power]
Stop
Do not place or drop heavy or sharp-edged objects on power cord. A damaged cord
can cause fire or electrical shock hazards. Regularly check power cord for
excessive wear or damage to avoid possible fire / electrical hazards.
[Circuitry Access]
Stop
Do not touch any parts / circuitry with a high heat factor.
Capacitors can retain enough electric charge to cause mild to serious shock, even
after power is disconnected. Capacitors associated with the power supply are
especially hazardous. Avoid contact with any capacitors.
Hazard
Unit should not be operated or stored with cover, panels, and / or casing removed.
Operating unit with circuitry exposed could result in electric shock / fire hazards or
unit malfunction.
[Potential Hazards]
Caution
If abnormal smells or noises are noticed coming from the unit, turn power off
immediately and disconnect power cord to avoid potentially hazardous conditions. If
problems similar to above occur, contact authorized service representative before
attempting to again operate unit.
[Consumables]
Caution
The consumables used in unit must be replaced periodically. For further details on
which parts are consumables and when they should be replaced, refer to the
specifications at the end of the Operation Manual. Since the service life of the
consumables varies greatly depending on the environment in which they are used,
they should be replaced at an early date. For details on replacing the consumables,
contact your dealer.
Upon Receipt
Unpacking
UFH-70DCMD module units and their accessories are fully inspected and adjusted prior to
shipment. Operation can be performed immediately upon completing all required connections
and operational settings.

Congratulations! By purchasing UFH-70DCMD, HD/SD Monitoring Down Converter with
Distribution Amplifier, you have entered the world of FOR-A and its many innovative products.

FOR-A provides a wide range of products, from basic support units to complex system
controllers, which have been increasingly joined by products for computer video based systems.

1-2. Features
This is a down-converter and video distribution amplifier used for monitoring applications and is
available in a modular format for installation in a UFH frame. It can convert HD-SDI signals into
SD-SDI signals and analog signals or convert SD-SDI signals into analog signals.
Down-conversion of HD-SDI signals into SD-SDI signals and analog signals (HD or SD)
Conversion into any of five aspect ratios (4: 3, 13: 9, 14: 9, 16: 9, squeeze)
Selection of analog signal output enabled (YPBPR, GBR, Y/C, composite signals)
Sync output signals for monitoring supported
Process control functions provided (video level, chroma level, chroma phase, setup/black
level)
Built-in cross color reduction circuit
Selection of enhanced level enabled
Provide 4-way distribution of HD/SD-SDI signals
1-3. About This Manual
This manual is intended to help the user easily operate this product and make full use of its
functions during operations. Before connecting or operating your module unit, read this
operation manual thoroughly to ensure you understand the product. After reading, it is important
to keep this manual in a safe place and available for reference.

Used to input serial digital component signals (HD/SD-SDI).
Used to output an active through out of HD/SD-SDI IN.
HD/SD-SDI OUT
The jitter in the active-through output depends on how much

The video output from SD-SDI OUT and ANALOG OUT is a down-converted and/or D/A
converted signal of HD/SD-SDI IN input. Available combinations of signal format for the input
and these two outputs are as shown in the table below. The unit may not output signals
correctly if any other format signal than those listed below is input to the unit.

3. Connection
Connect the unit to other equipment in the total system as shown in the figure below.
Note that before installing the UFH-70DCMD into the System Frame, you should thoroughly read
the operation manual for the System Frame where you will be installing. Turn off the System Frame
and other equipment before connection.

SYNC may not be selected depending on the selection set at Analog output selection 1. (See

HD/SD analog output selection ( SW2-4 )
Selects HDTV or SDTV for analog output.
HDTV cannot be selected when the SD-SDI signal is input to the unit, or when Y/C or
Composite is selected for Analog output selection 1. (See section 4-3-1)
Output selection when signal not present ( SW2-5 )
Selects black video or no video output from SD-SDI OUT and ANALOG OUT when input
signal is not present. No signal will be output from the HD/SD-SDI OUT1 (active through)
regardless of this setting when input signal is not present.
Internal Test Signal ( SW2-6 )
Outputs a test signal (Color Bar or Cross Hatch) from SD-SDI OUT and ANALOG OUT if set
to ON. However, the test signal is not output from HD/SD-SDI OUT 1 (active through). Use
dipswitch SW6-8 to select test signal between Color Bar and Cross Hatch. (See section 5-1.)
The test signal of both HDTV and SDTV can be output in synced with the input signal if an
HD-SDI signal is input to the unit. The test signal of SDTV can be output in synced with the
input signal if a SD-SDI signal is input to the unit. Select the test signal format manually by the
SW6 switch setting if any signal is not input to the unit. Proc Amp controls and aspect
conversion cannot be performed during test signal output.
Cross color reduction level ( SW2-7, 8 )
Select a level for reducing cross color artifacts occurring at the converted video. This setting
is applicable only to down-converted signals.
