2. Loading the battery
Please use four AA batteries.

1. The camera comes with 14 MB flash memory built inside for storage. If you do not insert a SD/MMC card, the data will be saved in the built-in flash memory automatically.
2. The SD card comes with a write-protect switch. When the write-protect switch is set to the lock position, the card will become non-writable. To ensure that the camera can operate normally, please set the write-protect unlock position before inserting the card.

Snapshot
This camera provides auto focus (AF) function. Please follow these steps to snap stills.

If the target subject is not in the center of the image (AF lock)
If your target subject is not in the AF frame, the camera will focus on the background instead of the subject when pressing the Shutter
button halfway down. The following steps will teach you how to lock the AF on the original subject and get the best result.

6. Night portrait mode
Use this mode when taking portrait in the late evening or night scene. The camera will enable auto-flash and red-eye reduction automatically.

1) to take picture. Please invariably hold your camera steady while taking in the night scene.
To prevent your camera shake during night photography:
1. Place your camera on the table or the palisade.

7. Landscape mode
Use this mode for daytime scenery, natural landscapes and cityscapes.

Advanced Functions
1. Using the flash strobe
When the lighting is not sufficient for your shooting environment, the flash can provide the extra light you need.

4. Adjusting the EV compensation
Adjusting the EV (exposure value) compensation helps you to gain better effect when the picture appears too bright or dark.

The applicable value ranges from -1.5 to +1.5. A positive value indicates the display will be brighter than usual; while a negative value makes the result dimmer.
5. Using the button
The button is a shortcut key allows you to immediately apply the functions which are in common use (for more details, please see the table on the next page), meanwhile, you can view the change of the image on the LCD display with the setting.

6. Setting the language

10. Real-time display on TV
Connect your camera and TV via an AV cable for real-time display. You can preview the screen of the camera and display your still pictures and video clips directly on TV screen.

Enjoying your Images on the
Computer
1. Installing DSC 5000
Install DSC 5000 before connecting your camera to your computer for the first time. DSC 5000 provides mass storage driver for Windows 98, Windows Media Player Codecs and
Direct X 8.1. Please follow the steps to complete the installation.

For Windows ME/ 2000/ XP users: Windows Media Player Codecs and Direct
X 8.0 or above are necessary for viewing the video clips recorded by the camera.
You can skip DSC 5000 installation if you are sure Windows Media Player
Codecs and Direct X 8.1 have been installed in your computer previously.
1 Turn on your computer.

Do not connect the USB cable to your computer at this stage.

Turn off other applications running on your computer.
2 Place the supplied CD into the CD-ROM drive.
3 Move the mouse to the DSC 5000 Driver item and click it.

When the "Install Shield Wizard" dialogue box (Fig 1) is occurring, click " Next " . Then follow the on-screen instructions to continue.

5 After the driver installation is completed, the program will prompt you to install Windows Media Player Codecs, please click "Yes" and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. (The "Windows Media Player Codecs Setup" dialogue box will not appear if codecs has been installed in your computer previously. )

If no title appears on the screen when placing the CD to CD-ROM:
1. Double click the "My computer" icon.
2. Double-click the CD-ROM drive icon (PocketCam_5000 (E:)*). The name of CD-ROM drive changes depending on how your computer is set up.
3. Browse to the "Driver" folder and start the Setup.exe program manually.

After the codec installation is completed, the program will prompt you to install Direct X 8.1, please click "Yes" to continue.
(The "DirectX 8.1 Setup" dialogue box will not appear if Direct
X 8.1 has been installed in your computer previously. )

2. Connecting your camera to your computer
1 Turn on your computer.
2 Insert the USB cable to the USB port on your computer.
3 Insert the other end of the USB cable to the USB port on your camera.
3. Copying pictures and movies to your computer
For Windows XP users 1
After connecting your camera with the computer, a window will automatically appear (as Fig 4). Select the "Open folder
to view files using Windows Explorer" item and then click
"OK".

Double-click "My computer", then double-click the new
"Removable Disk" icon.
Some users may find two removable disks appear under "My
Computer", that is because the OS detects two storage media in the camera (the internal memory and the SD/MMC card). If you can not find your files in one of the disks, please try to find them in the other disk.

2. Click (USB Disk), then click "Stop".
3. Select the camera (PocketCam 5000) on the confirmation screen and click "OK".
4. Follow the on-screen instruction to disconnect your camera from your computer correctly and safely.

Troubleshooting
Question Answer
When using the camera
The camera has no power.
The batteries may be out of power, please change the batteries.
Cannot power on my camera even though batteries are installed.
Cannot take pictures and movies when pressing the
Shutter button.
Make sure that the batteries are installed correctly.
If it is idle over 3 minutes, the camera will shut down automatically, please switch the camera on. (p. 8)
The storage is full. Please free some space of the SD/MMC card or flash memory.
Check if the camera is under the status of charging batteries.
Check if the SD/MMC card is set to
"protected".
If the "MEMORY ERROR" or "CARD
ERROR" message shows on the LCD display, please set the camera to the
Setting mode and format the storage media.
I did not delete the picture and movie, but cannot find the data in the SD/MMC card.
Check if your files are stored in the camera's built-in memory. The camera will use the card as the main storage media, and files previously stored in the internal memory will become inaccessible until the cared is removed. Please remove the card to find the data in the internal memory.
Cannot set the strobe on.
Charging the flash strobe requires more power of batteries. When the battery is under the status of low power, the strobe cannot be set to on. Please change the batteries.
The image is too blurred.
The image is too dark.
Use the auto focus correctly when taking picture. (p. 11)
Keep the camera steady while pressing the Shutter button.
You may need to take pictures or movies in the place with adequate light, use the flash strobe or adjust the EV compensation.
Noise occurs on my camera when viewing the image on the LCD display or on the computer.
Set the filter matching the place you are staying. Please refer to the "More on flicker" section on page 47.
When connecting the camera to your computer
The driver installation failed.
Please remove the driver and other related programs. Follow the installation steps in this manual to reinstall.
Install the driver before inserting the USB cable.
A conflict with other installed camera or capture device.
If you have any other camera or capture device, completely remove the camera and its driver from the computer to avoid a driver conflict.
The movie cannot be played on my computer.
