Sierra Monitor SMC 2350/2360 Telecom Gas Monitor Spec sheet
Sierra Monitor SMC 2400 Vault Gas Monitor continuously monitors Oxygen and Carbon Monoxide levels in confined spaces, such as utility vaults, to maintain personnel safety. It operates on -48V DC power and features audible and visual alarm indication. It has four alarm relays, including Failure, Oxygen Alarm, Ventilation, and Remote Indicator relays. The Oxygen sensor has a range of 0-25% and the Carbon Monoxide sensor has a range of 0-1000 ppm. The monitor has a response time of less than 30 seconds and an operating temperature range of 32 to 122°F (0 to 50°C).

Model 2360 Gas Monitor
The Model 2360 Gas Monitor continuously monitors both Combustible Gas (Methane) and Carbon Monoxide in confined spaces, such as utility enclosures, to reduce the hazard of gas explosion and to maintain personnel safety. The monitor operates on -48VDC power, typically used in telephone company applications. Model 2360 features long life sensors, five alarm relays, and both audible and visual alarm indication.
The monitor is mounted on a plate designed for installation into a customer supplied 3-gang switch box. A terminal strip on the component side of the electronic assembly board provides for easy connection of power input and relay output.
Sensors
The Model 2360 has two gas sensors, each with temperature compensation. The Combustible Gas sensor monitors for the presence of methane and other explosive gases. The calibration range is between 2,500 and 12,500 ppm for Methane (approximately 5% and
25% of LEL). The sensor is relatively insensitive to
CO. The CO sensor has a range of 100-200 ppm CO.
Both sensors are metal-oxide semiconductor-type solidstate devices for long life and easy maintenance.
Alarm Relays
There are five alarm relays on the Model 2360. All are
SPDT with 6 Amp dry non-inductive contacts.
- Failure Relay: Activated when either gas sensor becomes defective. The failure relay is normally energized for fail safe operation. The
FAILURE LED on the front panel is turned on when this relay is activated.
- Toxic Gas Relay: Activated when concentration of CO exceeds 100 ppm. The TOXIC GAS
ALARM LED is turned on when this relay is activated.
- Combustible Gas Relay: Activated when the concentration of Methane exceeds 5,000 ppm
CH
4
. The COMBUSTIBLE GAS ALARM LED is turned on when this relay is activated.
- Ventilation Relay: Activated when either the
CO or CH
4
gas concentration exceeds their calibration levels.
- Remote Indicator Relay: Activated when the
Failure Relay or the Ventilation Relay is activated.
The front panel has seven indicator lights (Toxic gas alarm, safe and failure; combustible gas alarm, safe and failure; and power on) and a calibration potentiometer for each sensor. The Audible Alarm will sound a continuous tone of 68 dB at 2900 Hz when either the
CO or Methane gas concentration exceeds their calibration levels.

Model 2350 Gas Monitor
The Model 2350 Gas Monitor continuously monitors for the presence of toxic and combustible gases in confined spaces, such as utility enclosures, to reduce the hazard of gas explosion and to maintain personnel safety.
The monitor operates on -48VDC power typically used in telephone company applications. The 2350 provides a long life sensor, alarm relays, and both audible and visual alarm indication.
This monitor is mounted on a plate designed for installation into a customer supplied 3-gang switch box. A terminal strip on the component side of the assembly board provides for easy connection of power input and relay output.
Sensor
The Model 2350 has a temperature compensated gas sensor that is factory calibrated to detect Carbon Monoxide at 100 ppm and has cross sensitivity to Hydrogen and Methane (CH
4
). The gas sensor is a metal-oxide semiconductor-type solid-state device for long life and easy maintenance.
Alarm Relays
There are four alarm relays on the Model 2350. All are
SPDT with 6 Amp dry non-inductive contacts.
- Failure Relay: Activated when either gas sensor becomes defective. The failure relay is normally energized for fail safe operation. The FAIL-
URE LED on the front panel is turned on when this relay is activated.
- Gas Alarm Relay: Activated when concentration of CO exceeds 100 ppm. The ALARM LED on the front panel is turned on when this relay is activated.
- Ventilation Relay: Activated in parallel with the
Gas Alarm Relay.
- Remote Indicator Relay: Activated when the
Failure Relay or the Ventilation Relay is activated.
The front panel has four indicator lights (power on, failure alarm, safe, and gas alarm) and a calibration potentiometer for the gas sensor. The Audible Alarm will sound a continuous tone of 68 dB at 2900 Hz when the gas concentration exceeds the calibration levels.
