The unit can be combines a safe fingerprint identification system and advanced Access Control management creatively, so the unit gives highly secure monitoring of any access point.
2. Product Information
Do not place this product in strong sunlight as this may significantly affect the fingerprint scanning and cause the unit to fail.
Try to avoid using outdoor in exposed areas, the operating temperature of the unit is 0-40°C. Extreme temperatures will cause operation problems which may include the decrease of the sensitivity and pass rate.
3. Basic Concepts
3.1 Basic Concepts
This section contains definition and descriptions of the Fingerprint Time and Attendance unit concepts including:
User Enrollment
User Verification
Match Threshold Levels
User ID Numbers
Authority (Status ) Level
The two most important Fingerprint Time and Attendance functions are user Enrollment and
User Verification.
3.1.1 User Enrollment
Enrollment is the process of creating an ID number and scanning a user’s finger three times to create a template. This template is associated with a user ID number and stored.
2
During user verification the stored template is compared to the current fingerprint scan to confirm the user’s identity.
Enrollment is performed at designated units. The user can verify on the time recorder that enrolls the fingerprint. the enrollment process takes approximately 2 seconds.
Up to ten fingers can be enrolled for the same ID number, so the user may have more ways of verification.
Ideally one fingers on each hand should be enrolled so that if the user injures one of the enrolled fingers, an alternative is available to allow access. When recording the fingerprint it is recommended that you use left or right index finger.
3.1.2 User Verification
Verification occurs when a user either enters an ID number or places a finger on the fingerprint sensor, then inputs a password for comparison to the stored template.
3.1.3 Match Threshold Levels
The Match threshold is a number that represents the degree to which verification is examined to ensure that the person is the actual person enrolled.
The Match Threshold Level establishes a balance between the false Acceptance Rate (FAR) and
False Rejection Rate (FRR).
FAR measures how often a non-authorised is falsely recognised and granted access via the system.
FRR measures how often an enrolled and authorised user, who should be granted access to the system, or denied on the basis that the system did not recognise them.
You can set match threshold levels on a per- use basis. If the fingerprint verification proves difficult, you can adopt ID and Fingerprint verification match one to one).
Raising the threshold increases security, while lowering it decreases security. It is essential to get the correct balance.
For users with worn or damaged fingers, match threshold levels can, and should, be reduced.
Different sites have different requirements.

3.1.4 User ID Numbers
Before beginning fingerprint enrollment, a user is assigned a User ID Number by the operator.
This ID number is used to call up the fingerprint template each time that verification is requested.
ID numbers are normally called up via the keypad, but they can be called up through other means such as RF Card.
3.1.5 Authority (status) Levels
Fingerprint T&A has four authority or status levels:
Users are people whose identity must be verified or recorded in order to gain access to a premises.
Enrollers are users who are authorised to enroll new users or delete them from the system.
Managers can perform either operation except setting advanced options.
Supervisors are users who have access to all functions and can change the system set up.
Note: Without Manager and supervisor status in the system, enroller will enroll all users. If there is no supervisor in the system then the Manager can enroll users.
3.1.6 Start up window
When the machine is connected to the power source and before the power on button is pressed, the screen will display a so called initial interface as follows:

3.2 How to place the finger
The correct way to place your finger way is:
Place a finger flat on the sensor surface making sure that it is positioned centrally.
DO NOT place the finger offset, at a an angle or low down of the sensor surface.
Note: If you do not adopt the correct positioning of the finger, we don not accept any responsibility for incorrect results which may occur.
4 Enrollment & Verification Procedures
This chapter describes how to enroll and verify users on the Fingerprint Time & Attendance unit. The following topics are included:
Enrolling User
Testing an Enrollment
Enrolling a user with the Display finger option on verifying your identity hints for successful enrollment
Note: You must have Enroller, Manager or Supervisor status to enroll users. For information on status levels, see “Authority (Status) Levels in sub section 1.1.5
If this is the first enrollment in a new or empty system, everyone will become an enroller.
If there is a manager in the system, you will have manager status to enroll a new user.
There are three methods of enrollment; Fingerprint enrollment; Password Enrollment and
Fingerprint& Password, enabling you to differentiate between three different groups of people, if required. Fingerprint enrollment is suited to most people who have good quality fingerprints; Fingerprint and password may be more suited to people who have enrolled successfully, but found verification difficult. Password Enrollment will be necessary for a less that 1% of people, who were unsuccessful during enrollment.
To start the enrollment process, identify yourself firstly- press MENU, enter your ID number or fingerprint and then verify your identity.
Note: If this is the first enrollment on a new or empty system, you will not be prompted for verification.

4.5 Hints for successful enrollments
If the fingerprint is of good quality, verification will be fast, otherwise it will verify slowly or switch to FRR. In order to improve the fingerprint verification quality, use the following table:
Dry or dirty fingerprints Solve the problem of dry by moistening the finger. If the finger is dirty, wash the hand and dry before trying again.
Not enough pressure applied when scanning
The user should place the finger firmly and squarely on the sensor surface.
How to select the finger We recommend use of either the left or right index finger or alternatively the middle finger. Try to use fingerprints that are good quality, without cuts or abrasions.
Placing the finger
Changing fingerprints
Other reasons
Try the index finger first, if it poor quality use the middle finger. As a last resort try using your thumb.
Place your finger firmly on the sensor screen, making sure that at least 2/3 of your fingerprint is on the sensor. Do not tough the surround of the sensor. Do not remove the finger too quickly and make sure that it does not move whilst on the sensor screen.
For users whose fingers may become worn or damaged identification may not be possible. In this instance you need to select password verification.
A small proportion of fingerprints may not verify. In this instance use the ID and Fingerprint verification method and reset the Match Threshold Levels to a lower level or use password verification.

8.3.1 Brief Introduction to Access Options
Access Options function setting is the settings of registered users unlocking time zone and unlocking combination.
Each user’s settings are attached to one group with group time zone and user time zone.
Grouping is used to divide users into several groups with a number i.e. Group 1, Group 2 etc.
In group time zone the user can select a maximum of three preset time zones. Relationships between these three time zones are “OR” (any one of the three time zones can be used). In
User time zone, the user can choose from any of the three preset time zones. Relationships between these three time zones are also “OR”. For details of relationship between group time zone and user time zone, refer to “User Access Options”.
Simply put, a registered user can unlock the door when:
1. The group that the user belongs to should be in unlocking combination (this group can share the unlocking combination with other groups, but it is necessary to unlock the door together with them).
The current unlocking time should be in any effective time zone within the user time zone.
28
The system default places new registered users belong to Group 1, default grouping combination is Group 1 and the default user time zone will also be set to “1”. When Group 1 and time zone 1 are in factory default status, new registered users default in unlocking status
(If the user changes their Access Option settings, the system will change according to the modifications made). If the grouping that the user belongs to is not included in the grouping combination settings, then the user can only record attendance and cannot unlock the door.
8.3.2 Verification Flow of Access Options
29
8.4 Function Description
8.4.1 Definition of Time Zone
Time zone is the maximum time zone unit of Access Options. The system can define a maximum of 50 time zones. 7 time regions (i.e. one week) can be set in each time zone. Each time region has an effective time zone of 24 hours per day. each user can set a maximum of three time zones. The relationship between there three time zones or “OR”. It is effective as long as one of the three time zones can be verified. each time region format or HH:MM-
HH:MM, i.e. the format or according to 24 hour and accurate to the minute.
You cannot enter an end time value which is less than the start time (i.e.23:57-23:56) as this represents a whole day. When the end time is larger than the start time (i.e.00:00-23:59) then the time zone is effective in this region.
The effective times zone for a user to unlock: open all day (00:00-23:59) or end time value larger than start time in time zone.
Note: System defaults that time zone or serial number 1 is open all day (i.e. a new registered user can unlock the door).
1. Enter “Define TZ” and screen displays as follows:
Define TZ
Time Zone No 1
Press OK to enter the settings for Time Zone 1 and screen displays as follows:

Fri 08:30-18:00
Sat 00:00-23:59
Status of time zone 1 as shown above is open all day, i.e. factory default setting.
2. For example:
The time zone can be redefined, i.e. the definition of time zone 1 is that saturday and Sunday are days which entry is not allowed. Entry times permitted are Monday to Friday 08:30-18:00.
The screen settings will be as follows:
Wed 00:00-23:59
Thu 00:00-23:59
Thu 00:00-23:59
Fri 00:00-23:59

Fri 08:30-18:00
Sat 00:00-23:59
Fri 08:30-18:00
Sat 00:00-23:59
This means that multiple time zones can be set according to requirements. A maximum of 50 time zones can be set on the system.
31
8.4.2 Definition of Grouping Function
The grouping function can divide users into groups, and can also combine different groups into different unlocking combinations, which are easy and convenient for grouping management in the Access Options menu. Also the grouping function can combine many unlocking combinations. The system defines 5 groups: Group1, Group 2 etc. New registered users will default to Group 1 but may be assigned to another group if required.

8.4.4 Access Comb
The unlocking combination directly controls the unlocking function. For example, if the user requires that all registered users cannot unlock, then the user can void all 10 unlocking combinations.
each unlocking combination is composed of different groups. the unlocking combination uses the group number and does not consider the user verification sequence between each group.
For example, “123” represents Group1, Group 2, Group 3 and at least one user in each group passes verification together, then the door can be unlocked. “4”means that after an individual user in Group 4 passes verification, then the door can be unlocked. The system can define up to
10 unlocking combinations, with only one being required to pass verification.
Note: The default unlocking combination of the system is 1 (i.e. a new registered user default can unlock the door).
Press MENU to enter the main interface.
Select Options and Press OK to enter the settings menu.
Select “Access Options” and press OK to enter menu
Select “Unlocking Combination Definition” to enter “Unlocking Combination” and the screen displays as follows:

Comb 10
37
Before you make any changes to the settings (i.e. the factory default status), the system default settings for Group 1 is unlocking combination 1 and others are 0.
If you do not want to allow users to unlock the door, then set unlocking combination 10 to 0.
If you wish to allow some groups to unlock the door together, then set these groups in the unlocking combination settings.
1. For example:
Access Comb
Comb 123
Comb 1
Comb 2 4
Comb 2
Comb 3 24
Comb 2
Comb 3 45
Comb 2
Comb 3 15
From the above combination settings it can be seen that:
1. 123 is a combination
2. 4 is a combination
3. 24 is a combination
4. 45 is a combination
5. 15 is a combination
Combination 1: When personnel from Group1, Group 2 and Group 3 are all present and the time zone is effective in which at least one user in each group passes verification together, then the door can be unlocked.
Combination 2: When personnel in belonging to Group 4 are present, then the door can be unlocked.

2. When Combination 1, 3, 4 and 5 are met, a user who displays a prompt “Invalid Time Zone
Access” cannot unlock the door, but can record attendance.
For example, If a bank vault requires that 3 people are all present to enable the vault door to be opened, then the settings should be as follows:
