Federal Signal Night-Fighter

The Federal Signal Night-Fighter is a versatile work light that can be used for a variety of tasks. It features three lamps that can be used for spot or flood illumination, and it can be easily hand-swiveled to 360° horizontal, 60° downward and 90° upward. The Night-Fighter also has a separate ground connection for added safety.

SPOT-FLOOD EMERGENCY WORK LIGHT

SAFETY MESSAGE TO INSTALLERS AND USERS

People’s lives depend on your safe installation of our products. It is important to read, understand and follow all instructions shipped with the products. In addition, listed below are some other important safety instructions and precautions you should follow:

• To properly install this kit: you must have a good understanding of automotive electrical procedures and systems, along with proficiency in the installation and use of safety warning equipment.

• DO NOT install equipment or route wiring or cord in the deployment path of an air bag.

• When drilling into a vehicle structure, be sure that both sides of the surface are clear of anything that could be damaged.

• In order for the light to function properly, a separate ground connection must be made. If practical, it should be connected to the negative battery terminal. At a minimum, it may be attached to a solid metal body or chassis part that will provide an effective ground path as long as the light system is to be used.

• Locate light control so the VEHICLE and

CONTROL can be operated safely under all driving conditions.

• Do not attempt to activate or deactivate light control while driving in a hazardous situation.

• You should frequently inspect the light to ensure that it is operating properly and that it is securely attached to the vehicle.

• File these instructions in a safe place and refer to them when maintaining and/or reinstalling the product.

Failure to follow all safety precautions and instructions may result in property damage, serious injury, or death to you or others.

A. GENERAL.

The Model FL3SF-SB-NY-RMT is a three-lamp work light which can be used for spot or flood illumination. It can be easily hand-swiveled to 360

°

horizontal, 60

°

downward and 90

°

upward, and locked in place.

NOTE

The short wire harness that exits the rear of the center floodlight cannister is a factoryinstalled test harness. It MUST be removed

by the installer before connecting the usersupplied cable to the unit.

B. ADJUSTMENT.

WARNING

During and immediately after operation, the lamp housing is extremely hot. Gloves are recommended for aiming.

Vertical aiming of the work light is accomplished by rotating the locking lever downward and tilting the unit to the desired position. Lifting the locking lever should then lock the work light into position. If the locking lever does not lock the work light into position, proceed as follows (see figure 1):

Loosen the set screw in the locking lever hub and disengage it from the yoke hub.

2.

Rotate the locking lever assembly downward so that the aligning pins engage the next set of holes in the yoke hub.

3.

Rotate the locking lever upward to check that the work light locks in position. If the work light does not lock, repeat steps 2 and 3.

C. LAMP REPLACEMENT.

WARNING

Disconnect light from power source before lamping or servicing. Allow unit to cool if it has been in operation. Use gloves when handling hot fixture.

Remove the retaining screw from the retaining band (see figure 2). Lift the retaining band from the light.

Pull the faulty lamp out of the housing and disconnect the power leads from the rear of the lamp.

The replacement lamp is Federal Signal Part No.

8107A117 (Lamp No. 4007).

See figure 3. Connect the power leads to the terminals on the replacement lamp(s).

When installing a replacement lamp, ensure that the numeral “2” cast into the front of the lamp is to the right when the lamp is viewed from the front

(see figure 4). Then, make sure the bosses on the edge of the lamp engage the notches on the front edge of the lamp housing.

5.

Replace the retaining ring on the lamp and lamp housing, making sure that the longer flange on the ring faces the front of the lamp and lamp housing. Replace and tighten the retaining screw.
