The purpose of this guide is to provide information on FileWay, an application that allows district staff with a current email login to access their district home drive from anywhere using a standard web browser. This guide will explain how to access and navigate FileWay, and outline some of the more common functions. AccessingFileWay
To access FileWay, connect to the internet using a standard web browser, just as you would to check your district email. Like your email, FileWay can be accessed anywhere an internet connection is available. 1. Go to the district home page at www.bsd111.org, click on the email link, and login using your district username and password: District website
District email Burbank School District 111 3 2. Once you have logged into your email, the FileWay icon can be found at the very bottom of the left‐hand menu. Click on this icon to open FileWay: Click to open FileWay 3. The FileWay window will open, showing your home drive folder. This may take a moment so please be patient. The FileWay toolbar allows you to select a particular action for a highlighted file, or to make changes to the current settings or preferences. 1. When you have found the file you need, click on it to highlight it: Click on file to select and highlight Burbank School District 111 5 2. Choose an option from the FileWay toolbar: a.
In addition to View, Email, and Download, this button allows you to Zip and Download, Copy, Cut, Copy Link, Rename, Delete, or Create Shortcut b.
Upload a new file, or a revised version of a current file, to your district home drive c.
Download the selected file from your district home drive to your home computer d.
Securely view the selected file e.
Email the selected file f.
Create a new folder g.
Sort your existing files and folders by Name, Size, Type, or Modification Date h.
Change your icons to Large or Small, or display your files in a List or with Details i.
Manage your Folder Options or select a Toolbar Style j.
Logout of FileWay k.
Find Help for a particular issue l.
Move to the next folder Up – PLEASE NOTE: use this instead of the browser back button m.

To VIEW a file, highlight the file then click on the “View” button in the toolbar. This will open the file in a new browser window as “read‐only,” meaning you will not be able to edit or make any changes. Burbank School District 111 6 DownloadingaFiletoEdit
To EDIT a file, you will need to select the file and download it to your home computer or removable storage drive. 1. Highlight the file and click on the “Download” button in the toolbar: 2. When prompted, click the arrow next to “Save” at the bottom of the FileWay window. Then click “Save As:” Click here, then Save As
3. Select a location to save your file. For quick and easy access, save the file to your Desktop: Click here to select the desktop as your destination, then click Save Burbank School District 111 7 4. Once the download is complete and your file has been saved, click “Open,” OR go to your desktop and double‐
click the file, to open and begin editing: Click Open, OR double‐click the downloaded file, to open and edit
PLEASE NOTE: if you are trying to open and edit a file created in a program that is not on the computer you are using outside of school, you will not be able to do so.
UploadingaFile
You will need to UPLOAD an edited file to save it back to your home drive. You can also upload any new files you create. 1. Open FileWay by logging into your district email and selecting the FileWay icon. PLEASE NOTE: if you are uploading an edited file, the original file will still be in your home drive until you replace it with the newer version. 2. Click the “Upload” button on the toolbar: 3. Click the “+ Add Files…” button: Burbank School District 111 8 4. Locate and select the file you wish to upload, then click Open: Locate your file on the desktop (or other saved location) Click on the file, then click Open 5. Click “Start upload” once the file name appears in the bar. To upload and replace an old file, make sure the box next to “Overwrite existing file(s)” is checked before clicking Start upload: Your file to upload Make sure box is checked to overwrite the previous file 6. Once completed, you can add more files to upload, or click remove all to clear the list. If you are done, close the window: Click to upload more files Click to clear upload list Burbank School District 111 9 Click either button to close the upload window DeletingaFile
To DELETE a file: 1. Click on the file to highlight it, then click on the “Actions” button and select Delete from the dropdown menu: 2. Click on “OK” when prompted to delete the file: PLEASE NOTE: deleting a file in FileWay is a permanent action. A deleted file will no longer appear in your home drive when you return to school. Once your work is complete, click on the “Logout” button in the toolbar to securely exit FileWay: Burbank School District 111 10
