Since different telephone manufacturer have different settings to their telephone, there isn't one universal headset settings, so if you do not know the pin-alignment settings of your telephone, you will need a telephoneheadset adaptor to pair with your headset.

* different types of telephone headsets

Telephone headsets comes in monaural (single-sided) version and binaural

(double-sided) version to serve different needs. A monaural headset will be convenient for users to be aware of the surroundings, whereas a binaural headset is perfect for concentration within a noisy environment.
