epmxn278-3c.doc Page 4 SAFETY VALVE The safety valve should be checked as follows :- IMPORTANT INFORMATION This machine contains a Safety Valve ( PRESSURE RELIEF SAFETY VALVE) To comply with typical safety regulations this must be kept in a serviceable condition and it must also be regularly tested. Testperiods depend upon local regulations , however ;- Astell Scientific advise that the Safety Valve should be tested every 3 months. A special SAFETY VALVE TEST PROGRAM is provided to make this easier, accessed from the Supervisor level. On models with the ** automatic safety valve test warning system ** this also resets the “ safety valve test overdue” warning message, for the next 3 month period. Start Program running . Sterilizer will start and temperature will rise towards 142 C and pressure to approx. 2.5 bar. When pressure reaches 2.4 to 2.68 Bar the safety-valve should Blow Off This discharges out at the tank filler vent or safety valve outlet ,so keep objects and personnel away from the machine and warn other people of the resulting noise IF THE SAFETY VALVE DOES NOT BLOW DOWN AT THE STATED PRESSURE IT MUST BE CHECKED AND ADJUSTED BY A QUALIFIED ENGINEER. Once the valve has operated correctly this Safety Valve Test is complete , .Press & hold the [Key] , and Press [START] at the same time. This allows you to stop the program Answer "Yes" to "Stop” Safety valve Position The Safety Valve is situated in different positions depending upon model specification and size. It is either inside the water tank or mounted external to the tank, at the rear in a position which allows for operation of the test actuator on the valve should this be required.. Later models – with the ** automatic safety valve test warning system ** - see note ** below , monitor the date when the SAFETY VALVE TEST PROGRAM has been run. When the program has been started, the system then checks the date and shows a warning after the 3 month period has elapsed, ( If a printer is fitted this also shows on the printout.) Note ** Software issue NSW422B8A introduced the automatic safety valve test warning system . Software issues before that do not have this system but the requirement for testing is unchanged. Go to SUPERVISOR MODE, and. Select SAFETY-VALVE TESTING and answer YES to “ARE YOU SURE? Question. This sets up the next program cycle as a Safety Valve Test Session similar to that described above. This will safely terminate the program., and start Cooling Down to Completion . At the end , open chamber and continue normal use 4
