SmartLUX
IMAGING Extension for PATCHMASTER, POTMASTER or CHARTMASTER
HEKA is proud to present SmartLUX the new IMAGING Extension, which can be used in combination with
HEKA’s acquisition software packages PATCHMASTER, POTMASTER, or CHARTMASTER. Image acquisition and sample illumination is synchronized via the Pulse Generator of the acquisition program, which
guarantees exact timing on the µs level. Fluorescence mean values from regions of interest (ROIs) are
plotted online and stored together with the data acquired from the patch clamp amplifier or potentiostat.

• simultaneous imaging and electrophysiological/electrochemical
data recording
• synchronized image acquisition and sample illumination
• online plotting of mean fluorescence values from ROIs together

The electroactive core is completely surrounded by glass. Therefore,
the electrodes can be used in strong acids and aggressive organic
solvents. The electroactive diameter is 10 µm, the RG value approximately 3, and the length approximately 8 cm.
Carbon Fiber Microdisk Electrodes, 4.7 µm
Carbon fiber microelectrode isolated by glass. The electroactive
diameter is 4.7 µm, the RG value approximately 3, and the length
approximately 8 cm.
The carbon fiber is embedded directly in glass and the surface is
polished as a micro disc. No polymers and no glues are used in order
to isolate the core of the carbon fiber. Therefore the electrodes can
be used in aggressive chemical media like acids and organic solvents
(methylene chloride, acetonitrile).
Note:
The RG value is the ratio of the total tip radius over the radius of
the electroactive disk. Length approximately 8 cm. The electrode
can be connected to a preamplifier with a HEKA Microelectrode
Holder (d=2.0 mm).

Microelectrodes
The sharp microelectrode with a standard length of 8 cm is based on
a fiber with 80 µm outer diamteter and 25 µm diameter metal core,
alloy of platinum/tungsten (Pt 90% / W 10%). The metal core is surrounded and isolated by quartz glass. The electrode fiber is contacted
with a gold-pin and mounted in a glass capillary. The microelectrode
can be directly connected to any preamplifier from HEKA using the
HEKA Microelectrode Holder for electrodes with outer diameter of
2 mm.
Available in two versions:
• ground only: The tip is ground sharply with an impedance
< 1 MOhm at 1 kHz.
• pulled and ground: The small tip is pulled and ground sharply with an impedance > 1 MOhm at 1 kHz.
Other materials of the electroactive core are available on request.

Manufactured with the Anodic Electrophoretic Deposition of Paint
(EDP) method. 5 µm diameter. Gold-plated pin connected, ready
to use with HEKA Microelectrode Holder for electrode with outer

Scanner (ElProScan)
The HEKA ElProScan is a high-resolution Electrochemical Probe Scanner which can be used as a
Scanning Electrochemical Microscope (SECM).
The two versions of high-resolution ElProScan Systems, ELP 1 and ELP 3, differ with respect to the
positioning system and required usage by the customer. Due to the fact that these systems can be
purchased individually, there is room for customization of systems to suit your individual requirements.
