The patented Rainin LiteTouch™ System, cylindrical shaft
and tip design provides a r­ eliable, consistent seal without excessive force.
LTS thin-wall tips incorporate a small, well-defined seal area and a

With the Pipet-Lite™ XLS+™ Adjustable Spacer,
we put a new twist on pipetting: a 6 or 8-channel
pipette with a­ djustable nozzles to quickly transfer
liquids from one format to another.
Its speed, ease and accuracy make it ideal for Genomic, Proteomic, Tissue Culture and Cell Culture applications. For example,
aspirate samples from microcentrifuge tubes, turn the spacing
knob and dispense into a 24, 48, or 96-well plate. And like all
Pipet-Lite XLS models, its embedded RFID tag enables advanced
­calibration tracking.

Using PureSpeed Strong Anion Exchange Tips, 833 µg of lysozyme and BSA were mixed together and separated using strong
anion exchange tips. Different buffers of increasing pH were used
in the purification. Citrate was used in the pH regimes of 4.1, 5.0,
and 6.1, while Tris-HCl was used in the pH regimes of 6.9, 7.6,
and 8.5. BSA was not bound in acidic conditions with citrate as
the buffer, but was able to bind the resin and be purified using
Tris-HCl. When the pH was increased, the elution behavior of BSA
shifted significantly.

For genomic, proteomic and cell-based work, 96- and 384-well plates
allow researchers to set up multiple samples in a compact format that
can greatly enhance downstream assays. But despite their many benefits,
working with 96- and 384-well plates can be challenging:

Single- and multi-channel pipettes are inexpensive, but they can be slow and tedious for
filling multiple plates and greatly increase the risk of skipping or repeating wells.

As a highly accurate and precise pipetting station, Liquidator™ 96 can be used to quickly and easily set up your
most demanding applications. For example, because small errors when pipetting template can produce large differences in Cq values between replicates, qPCR requires uniform pipetting of nucleic acid templates into reactions.
Testing scientific hypotheses requires minimal
qPCR error, so Rainin tested Liquidator 96’s ability
to generate high-quality qPCR data. The 20 µL
Liquidator 96 was used in all pipetting steps for
qPCR, including a 2 µL template addition step.
The data at left show the superimposition of
96 qPCRs set up in parallel using the 20 µL
Liquidator 96, which has a range of 0.5 to
20 µL. The mean Cq value of this data was
22.24 ± 0.04. The data obtained demonstrate
Liquidator 96‘s excellent reproducibility in
micro-volume pipetting applications.

By conducting comparative experiment between a multichannel pipette and

Affymetrix Research Services researcher Kay Mekaru needed a faster way
for her team to prepare high-quality, genotyping-quality DNA using PCR.

Automated material handling
High-capacity vacuum pumps to transfer virgin polypropylene pellets from stainless steel

Rainin’s Aerosol Resistant tips are your best choice for

Hydrophobic filter forms a barrier against aerosols
and liquids, eliminating potential sample and pipette
cross-contamination that could jeopardize results.
Pure polyethylene filters contain no additives
The filters in Rainin’s aerosol-resistant tips are comprised of an exceptionally dense matrix of sintered
polyethylene particles. Unlike other filter types contain
additives that can inhibit enzymatic reactions, Rainin
filters are composed of pure polyethylene. These
sintered particles form a hydrophobic, tortuous path
matrix (average pore size: 40 µm) that prevent aerosols and liquids from being aspirated into the body of
the pipette.

Filtered and presterilized bioclean tips are gammaradiated to ensure the packaged product is completely sterile. In addition, each tip lot is processtested to specifications shown here and labeled
“Certified free of DNase, RNase, DNA, pyrogen, and

Rainin extended-length LTS tips will reach to the bottom of
blocks, tall vials, flasks, 100 mm tubes, etc.
Ultra-hydrophobicity
Unlike other companies that dip or tumble their tips after molding to apply a repellant coating, Rainin integrates a proprietary
additive into the polypropylene matrix during the molding
process. This avoids problems associated with inconsistent
and incomplete coatings. The exposed trifluoromethyl additive
reduces inter­action between the aspirated liquid and the polypropylene tip matrix, resulting in an exceptionally hydrophobic
tip surface that is not affected by autoclaving. Available in 10,
250 and 1,000 µl LTS tip volumes.
Narrow diameter
These tips will pass through 8 mm ID penetrable septa, such
as on the specimen collection kits. Reach the bottom of these
vials easily, without the pipette shaft touching the vessel wall
and becoming contaminated.
Racked for convenience
Supplied in racks, standard, presterilized and with aerosolresistant filters. RT-L1000X and RT-L1000XS tips hold a full
1200 μl volume.
Low-retention tips perform better with demanding samples
Ensure higher pipetting accuracy and reproducibility, even
when working with viscous, tenacious samples. Greater
pipetting accuracy means less of your valuable samples are

With ShaftGard tips, the shaft and tip ejector are protected from accidental contamination, reducing the
need to decontaminate or sterilize the shaft and tip
ejector when working with biological, radioactive, or

Designed for dispensing samples into narrow wells in
electrophoretic slab gel apparatus, for sample
­recovery, or when high accuracy is required at low
volumes. The flexible ultra-thin micro-capillary is
ideal for DNA sequencing and protein separation.
Autoclave cycles at 1 bar and 121° C up to 15 minutes are possible without significant capillary shrinkage or closure.
Contamination-free tip ejection
The tip ejector is enclosed by the tip and ejects the tip
by pressing on the “shoulder” inside the tip – affording further protection against contamination.

LiteTouch™ 1.7 ml Microcentrifuge Tubes
Quick and Easy One-Hand Operation
The unique rear tab and hinge design on our innovative LiteTouch microcentrifuge tubes makes them
easier and faster to open with just one hand. By
placing the tab over the hinge, a light downward
pressure is all it takes to “pop” the secure seal
and lift the cap.
Compared with the prying motion required to open conventional tubes, the new LiteTouch tubes are a dramatic, ergonomic improvement that will enhance your work flow and
speed throughput with multiple samples.
Innovative, easy opening
The LiteTouch tube employs a patented rear hinge
and tab mechanism to open the cap. This mechanism eliminates the need to push up on the front
of the cap, improving control, reducing fatigue and
increasing throughput.
Clarity, color, convenience
LiteTouch tubes are made from a durable, high-clarity
homo-polymer. Frosted writing surfaces on the cap
and tube for labeling, and graduation marks every
0.5 ml. LiteTouch tubes are autoclavable. Available in
natural, blue, black, red, green and yellow. Photoopaque black tubes are suitable for light-sensitive
applications.

Pressing down on the rear tab instead of prying up
from the front virtually eliminates cross-contamination of gloves, pipettes, other surfaces and the
sample.

Seals can leak after being exposed to rough piston
surfaces or to sample contamination. Shaft ends
can be worn over time, especially when high force
or “banging” is applied when mounting tips. Often,
leakage is gradual and may not be discovered until
it is too late, adversely affecting the integrity of your
research.

Accuracy (Mean Error)
Accuracy, or mean error, is the amount by which the mean
value of a large set of replicate liquid measurements deviates from the nominal value of the volume shown on the
digital display of the pipette. The specification given for each
pipette is the maximum allowable value for mean error.
Mean error may be expressed as shown in the equations
below.
Precision (Repeatability)
Precision is the numerical assessment of the random dispersion
of a number of replicate measurements, expressed as standard
deviation or coefficient of variation. In this publication, precision
refers to a “within-run” deviation, i.e. the standard deviation for
a series of measurements at the same volume setting, performed at one location in a contiguous time period, with a new
disposable tip for each pipetting cycle. Standard deviation and
coefficient of variation may be expressed as shown in the equations below.
Mean Error:
The difference between the mean volume of actual
measurements and the true value as specified by the
volume setting of the pipette. Expressed in µl.
Standard Deviation:
Quantifies the magnitude of scatter due to random error.
