Hints and Tips

Energy Saving Advice

·

Pay careful attention to where the cabinet is placed. See the section "Installation". When installed correctly, the cabinet will consume less energy.

·

Try to avoid keeping the door open for long periods, or opening the door too frequently as warm air will enter the cabinet, and cause the compressor to switch on unnecessarily often.

·

Ensure there are no obstructions preventing the door from closing properly.

·

Thaw frozen food in the fridge. This will ensure safer defrosting of foods and reduce the work of the refrigeration unit

·

It is advisable to periodically clean the refrigeration system at the back of the appliance with a duster or vacuum cleaner.

·

Always leave warm food to cool downn to room temperature before placing in the fridge.

·

Make sure the door gasket is complete and always clean.

Food Storage

·

To obtain the best results from your appliance, neither hot foods nor liquids which may

Downloaded from Fridge-Manual.com Manuals

8 evaporate, should be placed in the larder compartment.

·

Avoid buying frozen food if you can not store it straight away. The use of an insulated container is advisable. When you arrive home place the frozen food in the freezer immediately.

·

Ensure that food placed in the freezer is dated and labelled and used in date order to ensure that food is consumed at its best.

Remove suspect food from you refrigerator and clean, refer to cleaning and maintenance.

Normal Operating Sounds

·

You may hear faint gurgling or bubbling sounds when the refrigerant is pumped through the coils or tubing at the rear, to the cooling plate/evaporator.

·

When the compressor is on, the refrigerant is being pumped round, and you will hear a whirring sound or pulsating noise from the compressor.

·

A thermostat controls the compressor and you will hear a faint " click" when the termostat cuts in and out.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Removing the ventilation grille

The ventilation grille can be removed, e.g. to wash the grille.

Make sure the door is open when removing the ventilation grille. Unsnap the upper edge of the grille by pulling outward/downward. Then pull the grille straight out to completely remove it.

Internal Cleaning

Clean the cabinet at regular intervals.

Don't use detergents, abrasive powders, high perfumed cleaning products, wax polishes or cleaning products containing bleach or alcohol when cleaning the product

Internal Cleaning

Disconnect the appliance from electricity supply.

Clean the inside and accessories with warm water and bicarbonate of soda (5ml to 0,5 litre water)

Rinse and dry thoroughly.

Regularly check the door seals and wipe clean to ensure they are clean and free from debris.

External Cleaning

Use water/neutral soap emulsion for cleaning the surface of stainless steel, anti-finger-print coated.

Absolutely not to use abrasive paste.

Wash the outer cabinet with warm soapy water.

Remove the ventilation grille (see the section

"Removing the ventilation grille") and vacuum-clean under the cabinet. Once or twice a year dust the condenser (black grille) and the compressor at the back of the appliance, with a brush or vacuum cleaner, as an accumulation of dust will affect the performance of the appliance and cause excessive electricity consumption.

When moving the cabinet, lift it by the front edge to avoid scratching the floor.

Servicing and cleaning the water dispenser.

Never use cleaning agents with a grinding or aggressive effect.

When necessary, clean the surfaces of the dispenser and the water container that are accessible from the outside, using only a soft cloth and warm water.

The dispenser drip bowl can be cleaned with a tepid solution of manual dishwashing agent and water.

If the system is not be used for a long period, it is advisable to remove the filter and empty out the water. Then place it in a sealed plastic bag. Store the filter in a freezer. Turn off the water connection to the refrigerator.

When the refrigerator is to be used again, rinse the system through thoroughly by draining off at least three litres (5 pints) of water. Before re-fitting the filter, all its parts must be thoroughly thawed out.

If necessary, all systems containing water must be sanitized by ordering the necessary sanitizing kit through Electrolux Service Force Centre (tel: +44

8705 929 929) or through our website www.electrolux.co.uk.

Service during operation

The water filter is replaced as follows:

Place a piece of kitchen tissue or a dishcloth in the space under the filter. Remove the filter by turning it clockwise. A small amount of water will run out. Dry off and fit the new filter.

See the section "When starting the water system for the first time".

The water connection does not need to be switched off when changing the filter.

Replacement filters can be ordered from Electrolux Service Force Centre. See the section "Service and replacement parts".

The gas cylinder is replaced as follows: remove the gas cylinder and move over the adapter to the new cylinder.

The replacement gas cylinder is obtained through your local dealer.

Defrosting the fridge

The fridge is defrosted automatically every time the compressor stops. Frost formation can be prevented by:

· not putting warm foodstuff inside the cabinet.

· avoiding frequently opening the door or keeping it open too long.

To change the light bulb

The light is switched on automatically when the door is opened. Before replacing the light bulb, disconnect the power plug from the outlet.

Cut the packaging around the bulb socket.

Keep the packaging on to hold the bulb when setting it into the socket. Do not touch the bulb with your bare fingers. Halogen light bulbs are sensitive to grease from the skin.

Use a clear, UV-blocked, low-pressure type halogen light bulb. Socket G4. Voltage 12 V. Power rating

20 W/bulb.

Installation of carbon filter

To maintain the best performance the carbon filter should be changed once a year with normal usage.

New carbon filters can be purchased from your local dealer. The filter is placed behind the grill and can be reached by opening the cover. The cover can be opened by simultaneously pressing the lever on the right of grill (1) and turning the cover outward (2).

The carbon filter is then pulled out of its slot (3).

The new carbon filter is placed in the existing slot -

The filter should be handled carefully so fragments don't loosen from the surface.

When the appliance is not in use

Disconnect the appliance from electricity supply.

Empty all foods and clean the appliance, leaving the doors ajar to prevent unpleasant smells.

If the appliance is left on, e.g. while on holiday, ask somebody to check it once in a while to prevent the food inside from spoiling in case of a power failure.

The water hose must not be cracked, squeezed or be in tight bends. The hose is finally to be fixed with the aid of the securing strip supplied.

The water coupling is then connected to a water tap with an external 3/4 inch thread. This work is to be carried out by a skilled plumbing installation technician. The refrigerator is to be connected with a shut-off cock. There are different type-approved taps and tap assemblies on the market.

If you require a longer water hose than that supplied, then a VDE-approved 150 38 85-02/0 supply hose should be used.

Before the refrigerator is taken into use in its final location, ensure that the water connection has been correctly carried out, that there is no leakage at the connection to the refrigerator water valve or to the water tap, and that the four spacers are properly in position, see the illustration.

We recommend that the refrigerator is placed on a

"run-off" mat intended for refrigerators and freezers, which makes it easier to detect possible leakage.

This run-off mat is available from your dealer.

Installation of carbon filter

On delivery the carbon filter is placed in a plastic bag to secure the length of life of the carbon filter.

The filter should be placed behind the grill before the appliance is turned on.

Open the grill and mount the carbon filter.

The cover can be opened by simultaneously pressing the lever on the right of grill (1) and turning the cover outward (2). The carbon filter is then mounted in the slot found in the back of the cover.

The filter should be handled carefully so fragments don't loosen from the surface.

Electrical cord

Do not remove the power cord by pulling on its lead, particulary when the product is being pulled out of its niche.

·

Damage to the cord may cause a short-circuit, fire and/or electric shock.

·

In the event of damage to the appliance's main cable, only an authorised service company recommended by the manufacturer or a similarly qualified person may adjust it in order to avoid shock hazard for the user.

Installing the appliance

When two appliances are placed beside each other, the spacers enclosed in the plastic wrapping should be glued between the appliances. As shown in the illustration.

To obtain the best performance from the appliance, ensure :

· the appliance is placed in a dry, cool place and is not exposed to direct sunlight.

· the appliance is not placed close to a source of heat, e.g. a cooker or dishwasher.

· the appliance is level. The appliance should not lean against any wall. If necessary adjust the feet using the adjustment spanner supplied.

· there is good air circulation around the appliance and that the air channels below and behind the appliance are not blocked. The ventilation space above the appliance must be at least 4 cm.

The ventilation space can either be a) directly above the appliance, or b) behind and above the top cupboard. In this case, the space behind the cupboard must be at least

50 mm deep.

The appliance must be placed at a location whose ambient temperature corresponds to the climate classification*, for which the appliance is designed.

* See on the rating plate on the inside of the appliance.

The following table shows which ambient temperature is correct for each climate classification.

Climate classification for an ambient temperature of

SN +10°C to +32°C

N

+16°C to +32°C

ST

T

+18°C to +38°C

+18°C to +43°C a) b)

50mm

If the appliance is placed in a corner and the side with the hinges facing the wall, the distance between the wall and the appliance must be at least 230 mm to allow the door to open enough so that the shelves can be removed.

Check that the drain hose at the rear of the appliance discharges into the drip tray.

The power plug must be accessible after installation of the appliance.

When the water system is started for the first time.

The following should be carried out when the refrigerator is correctly connected to the water supply in the building:

Open the tap on the water connection and start up the refrigerator. The water system main valve opens and the system starts to fill up. Wait for five minutes.

Unpack the filter provided and connect it as follows:

- Remove the filter protective cap and insert the filter connector into the filter seat and turn as shown in the illustration (1) until the filter engages and the projection on the filter cartridge is opposite the mark on the plastic cover. See also the illustration and the instructions on the inside of the service hatch.

- Unlock the water dispenser. See the section "The water dispenser functions" Select carbonated water and drain off about 1.5 litres (2.5 pints) of water.

There may be some air to start with.

Connect the gas cylinder provided as follows:

- Take out the gas cylinder from plastic bag and screw the gas cylinder into the adapter (3) for this purpose, which is located in the valve, doing this by hand without tools.

- Place the gas cylinder with adapter in the valve and ensure that the valve bracket hooks are under the counterhold on the adapter (5). Then turn up the bracket lever (6) in one continuous movement. See the illustration and the instructions on the inside of the service hatch.

- Unlock the water dispenser and drain off a further

1.5 litres (2.5 pints) of water or until there are signs that the carbonated water in the water dispenser is starting to run.

- The system is now ready for use. In order to obtain the best possible performance from the refrigerator, wait until the set temperature is reached. A low temperature provides more carbon dioxide, a high temperature less carbon dioxide.

Re-hanging the door.

It is not possible to re-hang the door. The water supply goes through the hinge to the water dispenser.

Contact your dealer for more information.
