1. When the driver download begins, select "Save" when prompted to either "Run" or Save".
2. When choosing where to save the file, select a familiar location, like My Documents or the
Desktop. So that when the download is finished, the file is easy to find.
3. The driver download is a Self-Extracting ZIP file. Start it like you would any application.
4. Users with XP may be prompted to “Run” or “Cancel”, select “Run”. Afterwards, the Zip
file will install the drivers onto the computer. The default location can be altered, but if it is
left at the default, the program will create the folder “USBModemDrivers” in the same
location as the download, and install all of the drivers into that folder.
5. With the PC off, connect all cables, and leave the modems power button OFF. Start the PC
and wait for it to finish booting, and when it has, press the power button on the back to turn
the modem on.
Note: If the modem you has both a full USB and Serial cable, use ONLY or the other, DO
NOT use or connect both. However, if the modem came with a Serial cable and a short USB
cable, it will have USB on one end and an adapter on the other end for connecting it to the
Serial cable. If this second option is the case, both cables MUST be used to complete a USB
connection to a PC.
6. The Hardware Wizard will open, and if you are prompted to use Windows Update, select
“No, not this time.”, and click NEXT.
7. It is very unlikely that Windows would be able to locate the driver on its own, so select
“Install from a List or Specific Location (Advanced)”, and click NEXT.
8. Choose “Search for the best driver in these locations.” for Windows to search. Deselect
“Search Removable Media (floppy, CD-ROM…) and instead select “Include this location in
the search:” then click the “Browse” button.
9. Use the “Browse” function to locate the folder “USBModemDrivers”, then the sub-folder
“inf_usb_pl”, and then the sub-folder with the drivers, and when you have highlighted the
correct folder, click the “OK” button.
10. With the path to the location of the driver files showing in the small text box next to the
“Browse” button, click NEXT.
11. When Windows has completed the installation, click “Finish” to close the Wizard.
Note: Regardless of which USB cable the modem was provided with, you will need to repeat
steps 6 through 11 to install the actual modem it self. At step 9 browse to the folder
“USBModemDrivers”, then the sub-folder “inf_ex560lka_v31”, and then the sub-folder with
the drivers. When the second Hardware Wizard has “Finished”, the modem installation is
complete.
