DC Peak Prediction Charger

For 7.2–8.4V Sub-C Ni-Cd and

Ni-MH Battery Packs

Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the Dynamite ® Prophet ™ Charger. This

7.2-8.4V Sub-C charger uses a unique peak prediction circuitry that ensures an accurate charge every time and protects your

Ni-Cd and Ni-MH batteries from the dangers of over-charging.

This charger continually monitors the battery’s charge curve and predicts when the peak will occur (100% charge), and then stops fast-charging at exactly that point. This is essential in order to avoid damaging Ni-Cd and especially Ni-MH cells, which are very sensitive to heat. This circuitry is superior to conventional peak detection circuitry that continues to fastcharge, even after the battery is fully charged, which can damage Ni-Cd and Ni-MH cells.

After the battery pack has peaked, the charger automatically switches to Advanced Trickle Charge. This charging process keeps your battery packs in top performing condition until you are ready to use them.

Supplying Power to the Charger

Your charger will have to be powered by connecting it to a

12V power source, such as a 12V Sealed Battery (HAN102) or automobile battery. If you choose to power your charger by connecting it to your automobile battery, the car must not be running!

DC Power

Attach the red (positive) alligator clip to the red (positive) terminal on your 12V battery. Next, attach the black (negative) alligator clip to the black (negative) terminal.

Charging 6- or 7-Cell Sub-C Ni-Cd or Ni-MH Battery Packs

1. Properly connect the charger to a 12V power source.

2. Connect the battery to the charger. The charge process will begin automatically.

Note: When you connect the charger to a power source, the charger will beep. The charger also beeps when a battery has been successfully connected. The LED will illuminate to indicate the battery is charging. Once the battery has peaked, the LED will flash, and the charger will beep repeatedly.

Advanced Trickle Charge

Once the batteries are fully charged, the charger will immediately enter a pulse trickle charge. This pulse charge will condition the batteries, extend their life and make certain that they are fully charged when you are ready to use them. You will know that the charger has entered Advanced Trickle Charge when the charger beeps and the LED continuously flashes.

Re-Peak

To re-peak a battery, disconnect the battery and reconnect it.

This will begin the charge cycle again. Once the battery pack has once again peaked, it will return to Advanced Trickle

Charge. Do not re-peak more than once.

Safety Precautions

Do not leave the battery and charger unattended while in use. When charging, constantly monitor the temperature of the battery pack. The faceplate of the charger could become hot during charging. It is normal for the battery to become warm. If the battery becomes very hot, disconnect it immediately. Do not allow children to charge batteries unless they are supervised by a responsible adult. After using the battery, allow it to cool before charging.
