INTRODUCTION
This manual describes the electrical, mechanical and environmental specifications of the
FALCOM device FAL-ANT-12.
1.1 General
The FAL-ANT-12 antenna has been specifically designed for replacing the FAL-ANT-10
combined antenna and for the demands of today’s Telematics and AVL systems. Combining a
penta-band (850/900/1800/1900MHz, WCDMA 2100 MHz) quarter wave planar antenna with
a high performance amplified GPS antenna in a single, low profile windscreen mounted wedge.
The FAL-ANT-12 is ideally suited to the current market trend of manufacturers supplying GPS
receivers with an integrated LNA. Delivering 18dBi (nominal) at the connector, it also meets
the specification of most “high sensitivity” GPS receivers. It is supplied in black, with 2.5
metres of RG174 cable and is terminated with FAKRA connectors.
The FAL-ANT-12's unique shape lends itself to a range of internal mounting options. The
compact form-factor, easy installation and excellent price/performance are making out of the
FAL-ANT-12 perfect accessory for AVL and fleet managment solutions.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
The FAL-ANT-12 has 2 antennas combined in a single housing - one for receiving GPS signals
and another for transmitting and receiving GSM signals. The most critical part in this antenna
is the location of GPS part as the location of the GSM part is much less critical. The FAL-ANT-12
is designed for indoor use. The optimal location to mount the antenna is inside the vehicle
although windscreen with a clear and unobstructed view of the sky. It is not recommended to
mount the FAL-ANT-12 antenna on the windscreen in the vehicles with heated front and
steeply raked windscreens. However under a plastic dash locations are often acceptable, but
sometimes may lead to a temporally loss of GPS signals. For GSM, the most important issue to
consider is the potential interference with other in-vehicle equipments, such as entertainment
systems. Therefore, prevent locating the FAL-ANT-12 antenna close to the audio equipment
and loudspeakers to avoid any signal interference.
Follow this procedure to mount the FAL-ANT-12 antenna:
1. Select an appropriate mounting position for the antenna (be sure that no metallic parts
are blocking the view of the sky - see more details above).
2. Peel the protective material from the supplied double-sided adhesive pad and attach it to
the antenna making sure that the satellite side of the antenna marked with the text "THIS
SIDE TO THE SKY" faces up, towards the sky when attached to the selected area.
3. Before attaching the antenna to the selected area, first test the GSM and GPS signal
strength on your PC with the help of the Workbench software to determine in which
location and in what direction you will get the best signal strength.
4. Clean the surface area of the vehicle where you will be installing the antenna with a
cleaning-cloth (not included).
5. Peel the other side of the protective material from the adhesive pad and attach the
antenna to the cleaned area and firmly press the antenna into place on the vehicle to
avoid air bubbles.
6. Double check that the location of the antenna is correct, and continue to press firmly
down on the antenna for another 20 seconds. The maximum adhesion usually occurs
within 24 hours after mounting. During this time, avoid any contact with the antenna.
7. When you have successfully mounted the antenna, route the cable from the antenna to
the connection points of your AVL device and connect the FAKRA connector bordeauxcode to the GSM antenna connector on the device and FAKRA connector blue-code to the
GPS antenna connector.
