Installation Instructions 20 MINUTE FIRE RATED POSITIVE PRESSURE THERMAL FUSED FLUSH DOORS – CATEGORY “B” This door requires the application of a Category “G” Edge Seal 04/14/10 20_MIN_PP_FLUSH_B PAIRED MEETING EDGES Doors installed in pairs must have ONE of the following: Smoke & fire seal mortised into the active leaf Other approved surface-applied meeting edge fire seal approved for 20 minute wood doors FRAME TYPES Doors shall be installed in minimum 18 gauge steel frames (standard or kerfed) OR listed and labeled wood frames. • EDGE SEALS REQUIRED Category “G” Edge Seal required at mid point of door on frame. The limitations of the Category “G” Edge Seal shall be followed. • SMOKE S LABELED DOORS Category “H” “listed” smoke and draft control gasketing (tested to UBC 7-2-1997, Parts 1 and 2) MUST be installed on all swinging door assemblies, to validate the S mark on the label. The gasketing must be tight against the door, but not prevent the door from latching with the closing device. The gasketing must be installed around the complete perimeter of the door. HINGES Hinges shall be 4 ½” x 4 ½” x .134” full mortise hinges or per NFPA 80, Builders Hardware. Doors up to 90” in height require three (3) hinges. Doors over 90” up to 96” require four (4) hinges. Pilot holes provided. LATCHSETS All latchsets used shall be listed and approved for use in 20 minute solid wood core doors with a minimum latch throw of ½”. The following types are approved for use in Maiman Co. fire-rated flush doors: Cylindrical with a maximum backset of 5”: Mortise or Unit: “panic” fire exit device with surface mounted vertical rod. “Listed” flushbolts. DO NOT USE COMBINATION SCREWS! VIEWERS Per NFPA 80. VISION PANELS Glazing shall be permitted with a maximum area not exceeding 1211.25 sq. in. Maximum visible length is 42.5”, and maximum visible width is 28.5” • CLOSING DEVICES-MUST HAVE BEEN POSITIVE PRESSURE TESTED A closing device shall be installed on every fire door. All components of closing devices shall be securely attached to doors and frames by through bolts, sex bolts, or threaded-to-the-head wood screws provided with the closer. Pilot holes for wood screws must be drilled at 90% of the root diameter of the screw. Doors must be installed in a labeled frame. DO NOT USE COMBINATION SCREWS! Jobsite modification is limited to the following: Function holes for mortise locks, holes for labeled viewers, a maximum ¾” undercutting (bottom of door only), protection plates, and preparation for surface applied hardware. Pilot holes at 90% of the root diameter of the screw must be drilled for all screw applications. Maximum clearance between the door and the frame and between the meeting edges of doors in pairs shall not exceed 1/8”. The clearance between the bottom of the door and a raised non-combustible sill shall not exceed 3/8”. Where there is no sill, the maximum clearance shall not exceed ¾” from the bottom of the door to the non-combustible floor.
