SCADAPack LP Scheduled Obsolescence
Introduced in 2001 as our first RTU product with innovative power-management features, the
SCADAPack LP is now nearing the end of its highly successful product life cycle and as such Control
st
Microsystems intends to discontinue manufacture of the SCADAPack LP product as of March 1 , 2011.
Although every effort will be made to accommodate any purchase requests prior to this date, we
recommend that Customer’s plan on making any significant last-time purchase requests prior to
December 1, 2010.
Controller Upgrade Path
In order to facilitate customer migration away from the 16-bit SCADAPack LP, the SCADAPack 350
controller has been developed as a cost-effective, 32-bit processor, direct replacement. The SCADAPack
350 offers enhanced performance, superior communications options, and is the focus of any new feature
developments. The SCADAPack 350 can be considered essentially the same as the SCADAPack LP,
with both controllers sharing the same physical dimensions, I/O location and LED Power button
functionality. Additionally, any existing TelePACE, ISaGRAF and C logic code can be ported over to the
SCADAPack 350 with minimal conversion efforts.

Technical Considerations

Porting existing SCADAPack LP TelePACE/TelePACE Studio and ISaGRAF logic code typically
requires only the re-assignment of IO modules in the TelePACE register assignment or ISaGRAF
variables dictionary to reflect the SCADAPack 350. Any new features found in the 350 such as the
Ethernet port and data-logging via USB port will require new logic programming.

Porting existing SCADAPack LP C logic code will require the use of a new C++ compiler and function
library; the LP’s Microtec compiler cannot be used to compile code for the SCADAPack 350. The C
code itself can be re-used and will require minor changes to reflect the SCADAPack 350’s function
library and IO.

Although the SCADAPack 350 is a low-power controller, because there are more features such as
USB and PAN ports, power consumption specifications are not as low as for the SCADAPack LP.
Carefully review the 350’s power specifications when the 350 is to be used in an existing low-power,
SCADAPack LP installation.
SCADAPack LP Pricing and Support
As of May 1, 2010, the price of the SCADAPack LP will increase to be in line with the corresponding
SCADAPack 350. For example, a SCADAPack LP with no flow runs will cost the same as a SCADAPack
350 with no flow runs, while a SCADAPack LP with 2 flow runs will cost the same as a SP350 with 2 flow
runs, etc.
Technical Support and repair services for these products will continue for a minimum of 3 years after the
last manufacture date. Effort however will be made to extend support as long as feasible beyond
February 2014, pending availability of trained personnel and parts.
