MCset switchgear: Designed for quality,
reliability, and ease-of-use
MCset switchgear are made up of several interconnected functional units:
> The power connections are made
between the functional units within
a switchboard via a single busbar.
> Low voltage wiring trays are provided
in the switchboard above the low
voltage control cabinets.
> The electrical continuity of all the metal
frames is provided by the connection
of each functional unit’s earthing
busbar to the switchgear’s main
earthing circuit.
> Low voltage cables can enter the
switchboard through the top or bottom
of each functional unit.
Busbar compartment
This section connects
the switchgear cubicles
via busbars.
Low voltage cabinet
This section includes:
• the Sepam or MiCOM protection
relay and control unit,
• the low voltage components, and
• the thermal diagnosis module.
Switchgear compartment
This section contains the medium
voltage protection devices, including:
• SF6 breaking devices (circuit
breakers, fuse-contactors),
• lever-type propulsion mechanism
for racking in-out, and
• interlocks to anchor the
withdrawable part.
Cable compartment
This compartment, located in the lower
part of the cubicle, includes:
• the earthing switch,
• the current sensors (LV type CTs, magnetic
or non-magnetic transformers) and
voltage transformers.

Performance through systematic testing
During manufacturing, each cubicle undergoes systematic routine testing aimed
at checking quality and conformity:
> testing of circuit breaker and contactor tightness,

easurement of closing and opening speeds,
> measurement of operating torque,
> dielectric testing,
> testing of safety systems and interlocks,
> testing of low voltage components,
> conformity of drawing and diagrams
The results are recorded and initialed by the quality control department
on the test certificate for each device.

The dielectric rigidity and the remarkable cut-off characteristics of this gas have made SF6
devices valuable worldwide since the middle of the 1950s. Since then, design refinements in
terms of waterproofing and SF6 end-of-life processing have further reinforced their credibility.
MCset is an indoor switchgear assembly that provides maximum
user safety. It is intended to meet all electrical distribution needs
from 1 to 24 kV and incorporates a set of innovative solutions
designed using proven techniques:
> high-performance breaking devices (SF6),
> digital protection and control system,
> a range of cubicles designed and tested for internal arc resistance.

Enhanced safety for your staff
and operations
High-level protection of people
MCset is designed to protect users through
its resistance to faults due to internal
arcing. MCset offers several options for
switchboard layouts:
> Three-sided internal arc protection:
installation of a switchboard against a wall,
> Four-sided internal arc protection:
installation of a switchboard requiring rear
access in the middle of a room.
Built for ease of servicing
Each section is isolated from the others
by earthed, metal partitions. This means
that servicing can be carried out in one
of the compartments while the others are
still energised. The earthing switch has full
making capacity and provides total user
protection in the event of closing on a dead
short-circuit.

Safe operation
The risks of operating errors are rigorously
ruled out with MCset. In fact, the range offers
an unprecedented level of user protection
against risks that might otherwise occur
during operation. To summarise, the MCset
design prioritizes to four points:

> safety systems that prevent all
unauthorised operations.

The user is guided through icon-diagrams on
each front panel making it easy to understand
the operating sequence and devices status.
Easy installation thanks to compactness.
Reduced maintenance and reduced probability of failure with
thermal diagnosis system
Specially designed for Schneider Electric MV
equipment, our thermal diagnosis system
continuously monitors the switchgear
temperature, using optical fibres and sensors
installed at the heart of the sensitive areas.
Thermal diagnosis is based on the principle
of temperature measurement of energised
circuits. By using optical fibres, the system
does not introduce any risks in terms of
insulation. It provides:
> permanent monitoring of the temperature
rise in power circuits at the connections
> tripping of a pre-alarm, then an alarm by
activating dry contact outputs
> indication of the zone and circuit involved
