Note
The procedures assume that you have already obtained the new version of
AT-S45 management software and have stored it on the computer from which
you will be performing the procedure.
Downloading the AT-S45 Bootloader and Image File Using TFTP
The procedure in this section explains how to use TFTP to download the new bootloader and
image file onto a switch. (The bootloader must be downloaded first.) This procedure requires TFTP
server software. Allied Telesyn offers a version of the software, called AT-TFTP, on its web site at
http://www.alliedtelesyn.co.nz/support/rapier/download.html.
This procedure explains how to configure the AT-TFTP server software from Allied Telesyn to
download the new software:
1. From the Start Menu select "Programs > Allied Telesyn AT-TFTP Server 1.8 > AT-TFTP Server 1.8".
2. Start AT-TFTP Server 1.8. 2. and select "Options" from the File menu to display the "Set
Preferences" dialog box.
•
The "Default file transfer directory" specifies the directory that AT-TFTP Server will read from or
write to, for file requests that do not include a directory specification.
•
To prevent unauthorized access to private directories, enter a path name in the "Restrict to
directory" field. The AT-TFTP Server will only use the specified directory, even if file requests
explicitly reference other directories.
•
For added security, select the "Read only" option to ensure that files can be read from the PC
but not written to the PC. If you want to use the PC to archive scripts created using the SAVE
CONFIG command, you must enable the "Read Write" option.
3. Make any required changes and click "OK".
On the AT-9410GB switch, do the following:
1. Go to the Main Menu -> Tools -> Software Upgrade -> TFTP Upgrade Boot Code Menu or TFTP
Upgrade Image Code.
2. Assign the Server IP Address and Image File Name.
3. Select Upgrade Image and Reboot and press Y for Yes.
4. After the download is complete, you are prompted on whether you want to reset the switch.
Type Y for Yes.
5. Wait for the unit to load the image to flash and reboot. When the prompt for the user name
appears, the process is complete.
Note
Do not reboot the switch while an image file is being loaded into flash and the
unit is rebooting.

Downloading the AT-S45 Image File Using Xmodem
The following procedure explains how to download a new AT-S45 software image using Xmodem
from a local management session.
Note
You cannot use Xmodem to download the bootloader.
Caution
The switch will not forward Ethernet traffic during the software download and
initialization process.
This procedure assumes that you have already obtained the new version of management software
and have stored it on the computer from which you will be performing this procedure.
To download new management software onto an AT-9410GB switch, perform the following
procedure:
1. Establish a local management session on the switch where you intend to download the new
management software.
2. From the Main Menu, type T to select Switch Tools.
3. From the Switch Tools Configuration Menu, type U to select Software Upgrade.
4. From the Software Upgrade Menu, type X for XModem Software Upgrade.

Once the new software download process is completed, the switch begins to initialize the
software. This process takes a few minutes. Once the initialization process is complete, the
switch automatically reboots.
Note
Do not interrupt the initialization process.

Resolved Issues
•
The issue is resolved where the switch stopped switching traffic and could not be managed
remotely. This issue was seen when the switch received a multicast or broadcast packet with
the fragment bit set followed by approximately 10 Kbytes of multicast or broadcast data.
Operational Notes
•
Port Security Trap
The port security trap is not supported.
•
Port-based VLAN Mode
The port-based VLAN mode described in pages 104 to 108 and 212 to 215 of the AT-S45
Management Software User’s Guide for the AT-9410GB Switch is no longer supported.

•
Tagged Frames on Untagged Ports
A tagged frame will be forwarded to the destination port as long as there is an entry in the MAC
address table that matches the VID plus the destination MAC address, even if the port receiving
the frame is not a member of the VLAN that corresponds to the tagged frame’s VID.
Previous Version 1.0.4
Resolved Issues
•
The problem has been resolved where the IP address and Subnet Mask were not allowed to be
from different classes. Since this has been fixed, a class C IP address may be entered with a
Class B Subnet Mask, as an example.
•
The problem has been resolved where all member ports would not link when configured for
100 MB/Full Duplex mode and "straight" cables were connected to the ports. Member ports of
a trunk are now kept in the Auto-Negotiation mode, which allows the auto MDI/MDIX feature
and either straight or crossover cables to be utilized.
•
The problem has been resolved where the DHCP IP address was not received after the DHCP
feature was enabled without rebooting the switch. Now, rebooting the switch is not a
requirement to receive an IP address when this feature is enabled.
•
The problem has been resolved where the Port Mirroring parameters were not set to the
factory default values when the switch was set to factory defaults.
Previous Version 1.0.2
Resolved Issues
•
Losing IP Address at Reset
The IP address was lost when the unit was reset. This problem has been resolved.
•
MAC Addresses on Trunk Ports
The ports of a port trunk were not sharing learned MAC addresses. This problem has been
resolved.
•
Telnet Management Session
A Telnet management session would periodically fail. This problem has been resolved.
•
Limited Security Mode
The management software did not disable a port that had exceeded its maximum number
of MAC addresses while operating in the Limited security mode. This problem has been
resolved.
•
Pinging a Device in a Different Subnet
Pining a nonexistent end-node using an IP address of a different subnet caused the
management software to fail. This problem has been resolved.
•
Spanning Tree Protocol
The STP feature would fail to function correctly. This problem has been resolved.

•
Web Browser Management Session
Starting a web browser management session would periodically fail. This problem has been
resolved.
•
SNMP
Using SNMP returned the wrong version number. This issue has been resolved.
•
Port MAC Addresses
The management software no longer displays the MAC addresses of the individual switch
ports in the MAC address table.
•
Static MAC Addresses
Static MAC addresses were periodically dropped from the MAC address table. This issue has
been resolved.
•
Frame Size Counters
The 64, 128-255 frame size counters may display incorrect values.
Previous Versions 1.00E and 1.00
Resolved Issues
•
GVRP Status
Changing the GVRP status of a port from Dynamic to Forbidden would periodically fail or
would remove all ports from a VLAN. This problem has been resolved.
•
ICMP Redirect Packets
ICMP redirect packets caused the switch to stop forwarding packets. This problem has been
resolved.
