Nextiva Multisite: Adding Value to Your VMS
The improved multisite feature of Nextiva VMS lets operators simultaneously monitor any or all of the
Nextiva sites on the IP network from within a single Nextiva Review session. As a result, Nextiva
streamlines management of large, geographically dispersed video operations and can significantly
simplify video system deployment, maintenance, and migration to IP.
In a Nextiva multisite deployment, the Nextiva sites and a single Multisite Server connect together over an
IP network. The Multisite Server provides a directory service that lists member Nextiva sites and the users
authorized to access those sites. When an authorized user logs into Review, using a single sign on
(SSO), he has access to the resources of member sites that he has permission to use; including: the
ability to control PTZ cameras; view live and recorded video; create, view and search bookmarks; receive
alarms; and work with investigation management tools.
By deploying Nextiva Multisite, your video surveillance system becomes an essential tool that adds value
to your organization.
The Value of Situational Awareness
Using Multisite in the Nextiva video management network enables information sharing across sites. When
operators know instantly what is happening in the entire organization, they can make decisions and act
quickly to protect the safety, security, and smooth operations of the business. Nextiva improves an
organization’s overall situational awareness, by providing the following cross -site functionality:

When logged into Nextiva Review (the Nextiva monitoring workstation), operators from different
sites can view the same bookmarks, alarms, and investigations.

By using the Nextiva virtual matrix and Verint decoders, like the HDR 1800 high definition
decoder, an operator can use CCTV keyboards and analog CRT monitors to view live and
recorded video, run guard tours, and control analog PTZ cameras for any site to which he has
permission to access.

Event manager scenarios can be created so that when an event occurs, different event
notifications are displayed in Nextiva Review, and e-mail messages are sent to one or more
recipients.
The Value of Organizational Efficiency
Using Multisite, a single computer can be used to monitor all video surveillance locations. As a result,
organizations can consolidate monitoring personnel and equipment in one central location. This translates
into better use of labor and significant savings in the costs associated with human resources.
Alternately, several computers located in different countries can be used to monitor some or all locations.
This scenario enables global organizations to staff their security monitoring departments more efficiently
by taking advantage of offices in different time zones to provide 24-hour surveillance of their entire
organization.
The Value of Collaboration
Nextiva Multisite allows authorized staff to quickly search video from all Nextiva sites, and to collaborate
on investigations, which helps save precious time when investigating fraud or other crimes , especially for
those that touch multiple locations.
Page 3
The Value of Simplicity
Nextiva Multisite is easy to deploy. Simply install the Nextiva Multisite Server on a computer in your wide
area network (WAN)—a process that takes minutes to perform. Configuration is equally straightforward.
The local administrator joins his Nextiva site to the Multisite deployment, assigns specific resources to be
available to multisite users, and provides local users with access to multisite.
For end-users, accessing resources from other Nextiva sites is simple as well. Multisite’s single sign -on
process drastically improves the end-user experience by eliminating the need for users to log in to
multiple sites. Users enter one user name and password, and then have access to all of the Nextiva sites
and resources to which they have been granted access.
The Value of Reliability and Resiliency
With Nextiva Multisite, the entire video management system is distributed on the WAN. Each Nextiva site
operates independently of other Nextiva sites and the Multisite server, ensuring that there is no single
point of failure within the multisite deployment. A Nextiva site stores and manages its own multisite
configuration and user information. The Multisite Server stores the site IP and user information of each
site in its database.
This distributed architecture ensures that if the Multisite Server fails or loses its network connection, the
Nextiva sites are unaffected. And since a copy of the multisite direc tory is on each Nextiva site, even if
the Multisite server loses its connection, the individual sites remain connected, allowing operators to
perform their duties undisturbed. Most importantly, Review users continue to have access to the Nextiva
sites. Similarly, if a Nextiva site loses connection or fails, the other Nextiva sites continue to function. Only
Review users lose access to the failed Nextiva site.
Nextiva Multisite in Action
Nextiva’s Multisite functionality is ideal in any number of scenarios and industries in which organizations
seek to secure multiple, mission-critical locations. For example:

Retail organizations that seek to reduce shrinkage, manage liability and loss, and use video to
improve merchandising, sales, and operational efficiency

Financial institutions that work to protect valuable assets, reduce liability and risk, and create a safe
environment for customers and staff

Critical infrastructure organizations that seek to secure facilities, operations, and assets, protect
citizens and staff, and enhance emergency preparedness and response

Enterprises that must monitor campus operations or a variety of locations and collaborate with
authorities and agencies on investigations
With the Nextiva four-monitor work space, security staff can view live video from all site cameras, plus
alarms, tours, and maps.

In a Large-Scale Retail Environment
The Verint Customer. A large, multi-national retailer with offices, stores, and distribution centers in a
variety of locations
The Security Operation. At each store and distribution center, a security protection officer uses Nextiva
Review to perform forensic investigations for his location. The company ’s two national security
managers– each in a separate office – handle investigations spanning multiple stores and regions. A
high-speed Wide Area Network (WAN) connects the company’s offices; however, stores and distributions
centers do not connect to the WAN. Each store and center contains an
independent Nextiva VMS site with no connectivity between sites.
The Challenges Facing This Organization.

Information sharing is limited by the lack of connectivity. This, in
turn, significantly limits the intelligence and value that the company
derives from its security video.

National security managers are overloaded, while store and center
security officers are underutilized.

Security managers experience delays in receiving information from
stores and centers.

Stores and distribution centers are not accessible from company
offices.

Collaboration and information sharing between managers and
security staff is slow and difficult.

High security staff turnover at stores and centers results in the time and cost of hiring and training,
and stores are less secure during this period.
The Benefits of Multisite Implementation. By deploying Nextiva Multisite, the organization connects all
of its sites under one security umbrella, which improves security awareness and provides critical
intelligence for enhancing operational efficiency.

In a Transit System
The Customer. A subway system in a major city, including a depot, a power substation, a central control
center, training centers, and subway stations throughout the city
The Security Operation. A supervisory control system is used to monitor and control tunnel ventilation,
air conditioning, escalators, power supplies, elevators, fire alarms, lighting cont rol, and access control for
subway stations, power substations, tunnels, and depots.
A video surveillance system, consisting of thousands of CCTV analog cameras, is used to monitor the
stations and subsystems.
At each subway station, operators have a
dedicated computer to access the control system
and two CCTV monitors dedicated to monitoring
the cameras at that station. At the central control
center, operators use a dedicated computer to
manage the control system for the entire subway
system.
The Challenges Facing This Organization.
Operators at the central control center do not have
access to the video surveillance systems located at
the stations. They must rely on communications
from the station operators for information on which they base decisions that impact the entire subway
system. Operators in both the central control center and the subway stations cannot easily or efficiently
share security information. As a result, when an urgent situation occurs, precious time can be lost while
information is manually relayed, and no one has a firsthand view of the entire security system.
The Benefits of Multisite Implementation. By deploying Nextiva Multisite on the IP network, installing
video surveillance monitors at the central control center, and providing operators at the central control
center and subways stations with access to cameras system wide, operators have visibility to events
throughout the system. This has enabled faster response to potential securit y breaches and crisis
situations and improved operational efficiency.
