Fassa Bortolo has always had a mission: create quality for the
construction industry. We do this by using the best materials,
developing innovative solutions through research, constantly expanding the range of our products. Always with particular attention to respect for the environment, for humankind and eco-sustainability. These aspects have always characterised the Fassa
Bortolo approach. In fact, the company is a partner of GBC Italia
(Green Building Council) and has established an important partnership with CasaClima.
Even the System for Laying Floor and Wall Coverings naturally
meets all these requirements, offering building professionals a
wide range of solutions for substrates, adhesives, waterproofing,
grouts. To always ensure the job is done with the best working
standards.
SYSTEM FOR LAYING
FLOOR AND WALL
COVERINGS:
CERTIFIED QUALITY
4
5
The products of this system conform to the stringent green housing certification criteria of the LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design) standard, which certifies environmentally sustainable buildings
both in terms of energy consumption and the use of environmental resources involved in the production process. The distinctive feature of this
standard is that it covers all aspects involving the design of buildings,
including the choice of the relevant site, building site management, responsible use of potable water, efficiency of the shell and facilities, the
use of renewable energy sources, the use of materials with recycled
components, and the quality and comfort of the indoor environment.
The adhesives of the laying system have obtained the prestigious GEV
EMICODE certification, a voluntary mark relative to emissions of volatile
and semi-volatile organic compounds (VOC and SVOC) issued by GEV
(Gemeinschaft Emissionskontrollierte Verlegewerkstoffe, Klebstoffe und
Bauprodukte). AD 8, A 81, ADYS, AP 71 FLEX, AZ 59 FLEX, AT 99
MAXYFLEX, AQ 60 STONE and SPECIAL ONE have obtained the GEV
EMICODE EC 1Plus classification, which certifies the ultra-low emissions
of volatile organic compounds (VOC).
Moreover, AT 99 MAXYFLEX and AD 8 are the first adhesives from our
System for Laying Floor and Wall Coverings to earn the prestigious certification “Certifié CSTB Certified”, a voluntary certification based
on the NF EN 12004 European standard, which certifies the Performance classification of tile adhesives and the fulfilment and application of a
production control system which allows to ensure the constant quality
of the products.

The credibility of a company is built year after year, through the quality
of its work and enhancing the skills and passion of our employees. History speaks for us: for over 300 years Fassa Bortolo has been a well
known presence in the construction sector, with a leading role that we
have gained in the premixed plaster market in Italy.
And with a full range of solutions for the construction industry, 12 production facilities in Italy and 1 in Portugal, 3 sales offices in Italy, 3 in
Switzerland, 1 in France, 1 in Spain and 1 in the United Kingdom. Thanks
to the presence of production plants and sales branches located throughout the territory, in Italy it is possible to obtain locally manufactured
products, which helps to cut transport-related pollution by reducing the
amount of exhaust gases and tyre rubber in the environment.
To continue to offer the construction sector the superior quality that we
are known for, evolving products and services.
FOUR FIELDS
OF APPLICATION,
FOR A UNIQUE
SYSTEM
8
9
The System for Laying Floor and Wall Coverings addresses and
solves all the possible applications, with products of excellent
quality, selected and tested in the Fassa Bortolo Research Centre
to offer installers the best solution, from substrate preparation to
waterproofing, from adhesives to grouts.

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
10
A good preparation of the
substrate is essential to achieve
an excellent result when
installing the coverings, both
technically and aesthetically.
The substrate must have the
right mechanical strength and
must be made with antishrinkage
technology, to prevent
detachments, imperfections and
ensure durability over time.

Standard EN 13813
Defines the requirements for screed materials used in the construction
of indoor floors. It is a European standard, which classifies screeds in
relation to the binder used:
CT = cementitious screeds
C = compressive strength after 28 days
F = flexural strength after 28 days

The SA 500 liquid screed is a
dry premixed product made
up of specific cementitious
binders, graded sands and
special additives for improving
workability and optimising the
levelling characteristics.
Its formulation ensures quicker
drying times compared to
those obtained with traditional
cementitious screeds.
SA 500
FIELD OF APPLICATION:
SA 500 can be used for creating
unbonded or floating screeds to
be subsequently covered with
ceramic, stone, wooden or resilient
flooring suitable for indoor use in
residential applications and the
tertiary sector.
The product’s fluidity makes it
particularly suitable for creating
screeds on underfloor heating/
cooling systems and screeds to be
subsequently laid with coverings
requiring extremely levelled-out
surfaces (resilient flooring, laminate
flooring, thin porcelain gres,
pre-finished parquet flooring, etc.).
The maximum surface of around
40 m2 can be created without
divisions.

FIELD OF APPLICATION:
The product can be used for
creating unbonded or floating
screeds to be subsequently
covered with ceramic, stone

Ideal for creating screeds
characterised by dimensional
stability, as the product does
not shrink during the curing
phase.
Particularly suitable for large
surfaces without divisions (up
to 900 m2) and for creating
screeds over large surfaces,
as fewer expansion joints are
required (up to 300 m2 on
underfloor heating).

* The mechanical strength values are obtained by mixing the material with the amount of water
needed to achieve a mix having a “moist soil” consistency, by using a hammer to mechanically
compact the various layers of material on 4x4x16 cm prisms. The mechanical strength values
obtained on-site largely depend on the material actual degree of compactness.

Standard EN 14891
Standard EN 14891 establishes the criteria and methods for classifying
liquid-applied water impermeable products for use beneath ceramic
tiling bonded with adhesives, for internal and external tile installations
on walls and floors. It divides the products into three categories:
CM = liquid-applied cementitious waterproofing product
DM = liquid-applied dispersion waterproofing product
RM = liquid-applied reaction resin waterproofing product
Each of these categories can have two optional classes
O = with crack bridging ability at low temperature
P = resistant to contact with chlorinated water
Standard EN 1504-2
This standard provides specifications for surface protection products and
systems for concrete and to make the relative structures longer lasting.
MC = moisture control
IR = increasing resistivity by limiting the moisture content

The EN 12004 standard defines the criteria and procedures for the
classification of adhesives for ceramic floor and wall coverings and
similar materials.
C = cementitious adhesives
R = reaction resin adhesives
D = dispersion adhesives
It also defines additional features such as:
F = fast setting adhesives
T = adhesives with reduced slip
E = adhesives with extended open time
The EN 12002 standard defines the level of transverse deformation or
elasticity of cementitious adhesives and grouts and defines two classes
S1 = deformable
S2 = highly deformable

GROUTING
68
The joint between tiles has
two reasons: technical and
aesthetic. Technical, to
compensate for the effects of
the hydrothermal expansion
that can cause tension between
the covering and the substrate.
Aesthetic, to mitigate any
defects of calibration and
squareness of the covering and
enhance the entire surface.
69
Standard EN 13888
The EN 13888 standard sets, at the European level, the performance
characteristics of grouts for joints, dividing the products into two main
categories:
CG = cementitious grouts
RG = reaction resin grouts
Category CG has two sub-classes:
Class 1 = normal grout (meets the minimum requirements)
Class 2 = improved grout
W = reduced water absorption
AR = high abrasion resistance
