Your SPS- 5 v7 Paging System should include:
1 Quick Start Guide
1 Rubber Duck Style Antenna

The Frequency, Cap Code(s) and Other Information are labeled on the back of the unit.
The SPS- 5 v7 Dip Switch Reference Chart is located on the inside of the front cover.
The SPS- 5 v7 will need to be set to 9600 N 8 1 (ALL Dip switches set to “ON”) for programming.
You Must Cycle Power to the SPS- 5 v7 after moving any Dip Switches.
The Attached system will usually need to send a “3-Digit ID” to the SPS- 5 v7 Paging System.
Installation:

The SPS- 5 v7 has mounting holes for mounting the unit on a wall.
Remove the front cover to access these mounting holes and use the screws provided.
After Programming the Database, attach the Serial Cable to the System that will initiate the page.
Set the Dip Switches to match the Attached System’s Protocol and Port Settings and Cycle Power.
PROGRAMMING and Testing the SPS- 5 v7:
NOTE: It is Highly Recommended that you set the Dip Switches to 9600 N 8 1 (All Dips “ON”).

Attach the SPS- 5 v7 to a Laptop or Desktop Computer running Windows 98, 2000, or XP.
Install the “Encoder Setup v7” Program from the Product Support CD.
Insert the CD and at the main screen click on “Product Support” then “Configuration Software”.
Find the Folder “Encoder Setup v7” and install the Programming Software.
When you first run the program the software will ask for Company Name for Registration.
Choose the Com Port you will use and Click on the “Open Com Port” Button.
The RED Light next to the button should turn Green to show that the Port Successfully Opened.
The System will tell you that the “Encoder Database will now be READ”; you MUST click OK.
NOTE: You Must Read the Database before Adding or Changing any Database Information.
• Click on the “Pager Families” Icon (Far Left) to Add or Change the Quantity of pager(s), Add or Change the
Pager ID Number(s) and Add or Change the Cap Code(s) and Baud Rate(s) as needed.
• The Function code is Normally set at 4 for Alphanumeric Pagers and 1 for Numeric Pagers.
• After Entering all the Pager Information click “OK” button at the bottom of the screen.
• The Software will check to see if there are any Conflicts with the Information you entered. If so, you will need to
correct the problem and click “OK” again to verify all Conflicts were corrected.
• The “Advanced Encoder Settings” are Pre-Programmed before shipment, but if you have to get into that Level
of Programming the User ID is “MAINT”. (Not Case-Sensitive)
• If you are not sure how to set the Advanced Encoder Settings, click the “Restore Defaults” Button.
• Click the “Program Button” (green down arrow) on the Main Screen to Program the SPS- 5 v7.
Testing the SPS- 5 v7 with Pagers:

Click on the “Test Encoder” Icon on the Main Screen (Far Right) to send a “Test Page” to a pager.
Enter the Pager ID Number in the “PIN” Field of the pager you want to test. (A 3-Digit Number, not 7-Digits)
Enter a Message that you want to send to the pager.
Click the “Send” Button to send the Test Message to the Pager.
The “Green Transmit Light” should light up for a few seconds while the Message is being sent.
You should see a “211 Page Accepted for Delivery” in the Com Port Log at the bottom of that screen.
