NUMBER: 08 ATS–12 S.M. REF.: 13.3 ENGINE: ATS DATE: August 2008 SUBJECT: UPDATE TO SPN 3251/FMI 16 PUBLICATION: DDC-SVC-MAN-0036 SPN 3251/FMI 16 has changed to now troubleshoot the general DPF pressure instead of only the outlet pressure. SPN 3251/FMI 16 This diagnostic condition is typically DPF Pressure Out Of Range high. CHECK FOR DPF PRESSURE OUT OF RANGE HIGH Check as follows: 1. Disconnect the DPF Inlet Pressure hose assembly. 2. Connect DDDL 7.X. 3. Turn ignition ON (key ON, engine OFF). NOTE: Do not start the engine. 4. Access the Voltage Service Routine. 5. Select “Start Acquiring.” 6. Monitor the DPF Inlet Pressure Sensor voltage (P_DPF_IN). 7. Is the voltage between 0.44 – 0.56 volt? [a] If yes, go to step 9. [b] If no, go to step 8. 8. Inspect the electrical connections upstream of the MCM (sensor, ATD harness 10-pin connector, VIH 31-pin connector, and MCM 120-pin connector) for corrosion and spread pins. [a] If corrosion or damaged or bent pins are found, repair as necessary. Verify repairs. [b] If no corrosion or damage is found, replace the DPF Inlet Pressure Sensor. Verify repairs. 9. Turn ignition OFF. 10. Inspect the DPF Inlet Pressure hose and fittings for kinks, blockage, and restrictions. [a] If blockage or damage is found, repair the DPF Inlet Pressure hose and fittings as necessary. Verify repairs. [b] If no obstructions are found, reconnect the DPF Inlet Pressure hose assembly. ENGINE EXHAUST To avoid injury from inhaling engine exhaust, always operate the engine in a well-ventilated area. Engine exhaust is toxic. 11. Start engine. 12. Access the DPF Regeneration Service routine. HOT EXHAUST During parked regeneration the exhaust gases will be extremely HOT and could cause a fire if directed at combustible materials. The vehicle must be parked outside. 13. Select “Send Parked Regeneration Start Request.” NOTE: Regeneration safety entry conditions must be met before a regeneration can begin. 14. When regeneration is complete, clear all fault codes. 15. Road test vehicle. [a] If no fault codes appear, testing is complete. Verify repairs. [b] If the fault code returns, go to step 16. 16. Remove ATD. 17. Perform a DPF filter inspection for excessive soot loading. Possible causes of soot contamination are: □ Charge Air Cooler and associated piping □ EGR valve stuck open □ Turbo actuator (Perform nozzle sweep test.) □ Damaged turbo blades/vanes 18. Make necessary repairs for soot loading; replace DPF filter and re-install ATD. Verify repairs.
