SECTION II
SUBASSEMBLIES
2.1 GENERAL
This section will describe the assembly procedure for the Hasp and Hinge Lug
subassemblies required for installation on Base N291057.
2.2 HASP ASSEMBLY N272960, DWG. 9925 SH. 34
One Hasp assembly is required for installation on Base N251057. The following
describes the procedure for assembling Hasp N272960 as shown in Figure 2-1.
1.
Install Hasp Link M269650 (3) on lug M074907 (5) and attach with Pin
M216200 (6).
NOTE
PARTS MUST MOVE FREELY AFTER THE ENDS OF THE PIN ARE
PEENED OVER AS DESCRIBED IN STEP 2.
2.
Lay assembly on its side so that one end of the Pin rests on a metal
block and peen the opposite end of the Pin over using a ballpeen
hammer. Turn assembly over so that the peened over end of the Pin is
resting on the metal block and repeat the operation for the other end
of the Pin.
3.
Apply a few drops of SAE-30 or -40 oil to area around the ends of the
Pin.
4.
Install Eye Bolt Ml03413 (8) on Hasp Ml48721 (1) and attach with Pin
M216200 (7). Peen over both ends of the Pin and apply oil as
described in Steps 2 and 3 respectively.
5.
Screw Jam Nut J480279 (2) onto Eye Bolt so Jam Nut is positioned
approximately 2/3 the way up the threads.
NOTE
IF EYE BOLT DOES NOT SCREW INTO HASP LINK EASILY, IT
MAY BE NECESSARY TO RETAP HASP LINK THREADS.
6.
Apply Slushing Compound A041390 Spec. M-7646 to the threads (4) of
the Eye Bolt and screw into Hasp Link.
7.
If Hasp assembly N272960 is shipped separately as a replacement part,
paint assembly Black per Spec. PP-7720-1 prior to shipment.

2.3 HASP ASSEMBLY N301050, DWG. 8299 SH. 167
Two Hasp assemblies are required for installation on Base N251057. The
following describes the procenure for assembling Hasp N301050 as shown in
Figure 2-2:
1.
Install Hasp M301049 (1) on Nut M267552 (4) and attach with Pin
M301048 (5).
NOTE
PARTS MUST MOVE FREELY AFTER THE ENDS OF THE PIN ARE
PEENED OVER AS DESCRIBED IN STEP 2.
2.
Lay assembly on its side so that one end of the Pin rests on a metal
block and peen the opposite end of the Pin over using a ballpeen
hammer. Turn assembly over so that the peened over end of the Pin is
resting on the metal block and repeat the operation for the other end
of the Pin.
3.
Apply a few drops of SAE-30 or -40 oil to area around the ends of the
Pin.
4.
Screw Jam Nut J048181 (2) onto Eye Bolt M395383 (3) so Jam Nut is
positioned all the way up the threads.
5.
Apply Slushing Compound A041390 Spec. M-7646 to the threads of the
Eye Bolt and Screw Eye Bolt into Nut M267552.
6.
Repeat Steps 1 thru 5 for remaining Hasp.

2.4 HINGE LUG ASSEMBLY N285692 DWG. 12426 SH. 130
Two Hinge Lug assemblies are required for installation on Base N251057. The
following describes the procedure for assembling Hinge Lug N301050 as shown in
Figure 2-3:
1.
Install Pin M210562 (2) in Hinge Lug M285683 (1).
NOTE
PIN MUST NOT ROTATE WHEN BOTH ENDS OF PIN ARE PEENED
OVER AS DESCRIBED IN STEP 2.
2.
Lay assembly on its side so that one end of the Pin rests on a metal
block and peen the opposite end of the Pin over using a ballpeen
hammer. Turn assembly over so that the peened over end of the Pin is
resting on the metal block and repeat the operation for the other end
of the Pin.
3.
Paint assembly Black per Spec. PP-7720-1.

SECTION III
FINAL ASSEMBLY
3.1 BASE ASSEMBLY N291057, owg. C9194 Shs. 23 and 23A
Base N291057 is required for a M-23A L.H. Switch Machine assembly
N451160-0508. The following describes the procedure for assembling Base
N291057 as shown in Figure 3-1:
1.
Turn Base Ml46095 (10) on its side and place on welding table.
2.
Insert one stud M074736 (3) into each "A" hole.
3.
Insert one stud M074738 (2) into each "B" hole.
4.
Insert one stud M074735 (1) into each "C" hole.
5.
With all six studs positioned against the machined pad, on the
underside of the Base, tack weld each of the studs to the Base to
hold the Studs in place.
6.
Turn the base over so the underside of the base is facing up.
7.
Using a rod suitable for welding cast iron to steel, weld the six
studs to the Base.
8.
With a chipping hammer, remove all flash, then paint each welded area
Black per Spec. PP7720-l.
9.
Turn the Base over so the underside of the Base rests against the
welding table.
10.
Using three Rivets J049475 (4), install Hasp N272960 (5)
outside surface of the circuit controller compartment of
position "D" as shown in Figure 3-1. Clamp Hasp to Base
end of each of the three Rivets to the inside surface of
controller compartment.
11.
Position two Hinge Lugs N285692 (6) on the outside surface of the
Base circuit controller compartment in position "E" as shown in
Figure 3-1.

Using two Eccentric Studs M285680 (9), attach one Hinge Lug N285692
to the Base and secure in place with two Lock Washers J047526 (7) and
two Nuts J048006 (8).
Repeat this step for the second Hinge Lug.

12.
Position two Hasps N301050 (3) on the Base, one on either side of the
Base motor compartment, in position "F" as shown in Figure 3-2.
Using tool (T#2001), peen over one end of Pin M209199.
CAUTION
CARE MUST BE TAKEN NOT TO STRIKE THE HASP MOUNTING LUG
WHEN WHEN PEENING OVER REMAINING END OF PIN M209199 IN THE
OPERATION THAT FOLLOWS. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN
BREAKING THE HASP MOUNTING LUG OFF.
Attach Hasp N301050 to Base by inserting unpeened end of Pin M209199
(4) through Hasp mounting lug (2) adjacent to the Base mounting pad
(1). Place Spacer Tool (T#2001) between the mounting pad and the end
of the Pin previously peened over and peen over opposite end of Pin.
Remove Spacer Tool and repeat this Step for the second Hasp.
13.
Remove all weld flash from interior surfaces of base and touch up
with Black paint per Spec. PP7720-l. DO NOT PAINT MACHINED SURFACES.
14.
Coat machined surfaces of base with Slushing Compound A041390 per
Spec. M-7646 to protect surfaces from rust.
15.
Remove excess material from holes in Base mounting pads and remove
Base from welding table.
This completes the assembly of Base N291057.
