1 Getting Started
This document describes the hardware and how to bring up the MSC Q7-SK-IMX6-EP4-KIT001.
1.1
Package content
The MSC Q7-SK-IMX6-EP4-KIT001 (referenced from now as Q7-SK-IMX6) contains the following
components:

MSC Q7-MB-EP4-001 baseboard

(with cables to the baseboard)

Power cord for the US and Europe

Console Adapter Cable

NOTE:
The Q7-SK-IMX6 Starterkit does not include the MSC Q7-IMX6 module, it
must be ordered separately.

Mounting Module and Heat-spreader
Module and heat-spreader are mounted with four screws, which are included with the MSC-Q7-MBEP4-001 Baseboard.
NOTE:
Depending on application and environment it is recommended that the MSC Q7-IMX6 be mounted
with a heat-spreader to avoid thermal issues.

Power Connection
The Q7-SK-IMX6 Starterkit system is powered by a 12V DC switched AC/DC converter which is
included in the kit. A customized DC cable provides connectors for the MSC Q7-MB-EP4-001 and a
hard disk drive.

NOTE:
Connect the power supply to the AC power outlet with the appropriate country specific power cable.
Insert the DC power cable plug into the 12V DC connector jack.

Console Connection
Insert the “Console Adapter Cable” into connector X702 (10 pin header). Refer to the MSC Q7-MBEP4 user’s guide for pin 1 position.
Connect a "Null-Modem" RS232 Cable between the 9-pin SUB-D of the “Console Adapter Cable” and
your computer.

DVI Monitor Connection
The Q7-SK-IMX6 Starterkit supports DVI monitors. A standard DVI monitor can be connected to the
EP4 motherboard (refer to the MSC Q7-MB-EP4 user’s guide).

LVDS Connection
The MSC Q7-IMX6-EP4 Starterkit supports LVDS TFT panels. The LVDS data and supply cables plug
into the sockets in one direction only. Please refer to the pictures below.

Power Up
Switch on the main supply. The system should boot up immediately.
If the system does not boot, connect the “Power” jumper pin header (X904 – PWR) on the baseboard
(see chapter “power button” in “MSC Q7-MB-EP4 User Guide” on
http://www.mscembedded.com/support-center/qseven/msc-q7-mb-ep4.html ).

First Boot
The MSC Q7-IMX6 Module for starter kits already has a pre-installed U-Boot boot loader on the
onboard SPI Flash. After a PWR button event the boot loader will search for a linux image on several
devices, for example SD-card, USB or NFS storage. Please make sure to have an appropriate device
connected.
