INSTALLATION 4. Customer Information: The information in this installation instruction is intended for use only by skilled technicians who have the proper tools, equipment, and training to correctly and safely add equipment to your vehicle. These procedures should not be attempted by “do-it-yourselfers.” Using a stubby Phillips screwdriver, remove the two bolts that fasten the center panel. CLIP (4) 1. If equipped, make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio, then write down the frequencies for the preset buttons. 2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. 3. Pry out on the seven clips, and remove the center lower cover. Unplug the accessory socket connector. Take care not to damage the clips. ANTENNA LEAD VEHICLE CONNECTORS CENTER PANEL CLIP (7) CLIP (4) BOLTS 5. Pull the center panel toward you to release the eight clips, unplug the vehicle connectors and antenna lead, and remove the center panel. Take care not to damage the clips. 6. On M/T vehicles, push the shift boot down while holding the plastic clip. Remove the shift knob from the shift lever by turning it counterclockwise. M/T Vehicles: CENTER LOWER COVER SHIFT KNOB (Turn counterclockwise to remove.) ACCESSORY SOCKET CONNECTOR PLASTIC CLIP SHIFT BOOT (Push down.) © 2001 American Honda Motor Co., Inc - All Rights Reserved. BII 22640 (0106) 3 of 12 7. On A/T vehicles, pull up on the trim ring to release the four retaining tabs, and remove the escutcheon panel. 9. Remove the two self-tapping screws that fasten the center console. A/T Vehicles: TRIM RING CENTER CONSOLE SELFTAPPING SCREWS RETAINING TABS 10. Remove the beverage holder by lifting it upward to release the four clips. RETAINING TABS 8. Remove the center console trim by lifting it upward to release the six clips and one retaining tab. Inside the center console, remove the two clips. At the rear of the center console, remove the two screws. 13. Remove the rear seat cushion (one bolt, and pull up to release the two hooks). HOOK (2) M/T Vehicles: CLIP (2) CLIPS CENTER CONSOLE SCREWS BOLT ACCESSORY SOCKET REAR SEAT CUSHION VEHICLE CONNECTOR A/T Vehicles: CLIP (2) 14. Open the hatch, and flip the cargo floor mat forward. Remove the cargo area floor. SELF-TAPPING SCREWS CLIPS CARGO FLOOR MAT CENTER CONSOLE CARGO AREA FLOOR ACCESSORY SOCKET SCREWS VEHICLE CONNECTOR 12. Release the two clips that secure the front of the center console, then remove the center console by first sliding it toward the rear, then lifting it upward. Disconnect the vehicle harness connector from the accessory socket at the rear of the center console. © 2001 American Honda Motor Co., Inc - All Rights Reserved. BII 22640 (0106) 5 of 12 Routing the BUS Cable 15. Remove the hatch weatherstrip in the area shown. Pull up on the rear trim panel to release the four clips, and remove the trim. 18. Route the BUS cable up to the center panel opening, and align its connector with the 20-pin connector of the vehicle harness. CLIP (4) REAR TRIM PANEL CENTER PANEL OPENING HATCH WEATHERSTRIP (Remove in this area.) BUS CABLE BUS CABLE CONNECTOR (Align the BUS cable connector with the vehicle 20-pin connector.) WIRE TIE VEHICLE HARNESS 16. Remove the hatch weatherstrip from the left edge of the opening as shown. Inside the cargo area, use long-nose pliers to remove the hook. 17. Remove the four clips and one hook that secure the left trunk side trim panel, and remove the panel. Take care not to damage the clips. HOOK VEHICLE 20-PIN CONNECTOR 19. Secure the BUS cable to the vehicle harness with one wire tie in the area shown. 20. Continue routing the BUS cable to the rear over the center of the floor panel. Using scissors, cut a cushion tape into halves. Use one of the halves to cover the edge of the parking brake lever bracket where the BUS cable makes contact. • Using isopropyl alcohol, thoroughly clean the area where the cushion tape will attach to the parking brake lever bracket. • On A/T vehicles, route the BUS cable along the vehicle harness at the left side. CLIP (2) Inside the cargo area, squeeze and remove the hook with long-nose pliers. M/T BUS CABLE LEFT TRIM SIDE PANEL VEHICLE HARNESS A/T WIRE TIES (Using isopropyl alcohol, thoroughly clean the area where the cushion tape will be attached.) WEATHERSTRIP (Remove in the area shown.) HOOK CUSHION TAPE Cut into halves. CLIPS 21. Secure the BUS cable to the vehicle harness with three wire ties in the areas shown. 6 of 12 BII 22640 (0106) © 2001 American Honda Motor Co., Inc - All Rights Reserved. 22. Remove the clip, and turn over the floor carpet so it’s out of the way. Take care not to damage the clip. 25. Position the template on the floor panel. Using a felt-tip pen, mark the floor panel at the centers of the four marks indicated on the template. CUSHION TAPES (Secure the BUS cable as close to the edge of the body frame as possible.) CENTER PUNCH FELT-TIP PEN WIRE TIES BUS CABLE TEMPLATE VEHICLE HARNESS FLOOR PANEL 26. Center-punch each mark. CLIP FLOOR CARPET (Turn over.) 27. Drill a 7 mm hole through each center-punched mark: 23. Route the BUS cable, and secure it to the vehicle harness with two wire ties. • First drill with a 3 mm bit, and finish with a 7 mm bit. 24. Secure the BUS cable to the floor with the two cushion tapes. Secure the BUS cable as close to the trim panel as possible. • Remove any burrs from the edges of the holes, and apply touch-up paint. Insert the studs of the sub-bracket into the holes drilled in step 27. 32. Make loops in the BUS cable, and secure them to the floor panel with three cushion tapes in the areas shown. SUB-BRACKET SUB-BRACKET (Remove.) CUSHION TAPES BUS CABLE (Make loops and secure them to the floor panel with the cushion tapes.) 7 mm HOLES 29. Turn over the left side trim panel, then route the BUS cable to the rear under the panel. FUEL LID OPENER CABLE Route the BUS cable behind the damper mounting base. BUS CABLE DAMPER MOUNTING BASE 33. Remove the sub-bracket temporarily installed in step 28. 34. Using a tape measure and a felt-tip pen, measure and mark the left side trim panel as shown. Using a utility knife, cut out the marked area. SUBBRACKET LEFT SIDE TRIM PANEL LEFT SIDE TRIM PANEL (Turn over the panel, and route the BUS cable under it.) 8 mm 34 mm 70 mm 73 mm BUS CABLE BUS CABLE CONNECTOR 30. Continue routing the BUS cable to the underside of the sub-bracket as shown. 31. Adjust the BUS cable so that the distance from the edge of the connector to the edge of the subbracket is 70 mm. 8 of 12 BII 22640 (0106) 158 mm Cut out the marked area from the left side trim panel with a utility knife. © 2001 American Honda Motor Co., Inc - All Rights Reserved. 35. Install the left side trim panel, and pull the BUS cable out through the opening. 38. Insert the studs of the sub-brackets through the openings in the left side trim panel and the holes in the cargo floor mat into the 7 mm holes drilled in step 27. Install a cover washer, an O-ring, and a cap nut onto the end of each stud as shown. Tighten the cap nuts securely. Cut out. 65 mm 50 mm 37 mm 81 mm 37 mm LEFT SIDE TRIM PANEL (Install.) SUB-BRACKET 37 mm BUS CABLE CARGO FLOOR MAT CARGO FLOOR MAT CARGO FLOOR MAT COVER WASHER (4) 36. Using a tape measure and a felt-tip pen, measure and mark the cargo floor mat as shown. Using a utility knife, cut out the marked areas from the mat. Reinstall the mat. O-RING (4) CAP NUT (4) 37. Slide one collar into each of the four cover washers, and apply butyl seal to the rubber on the cover washers. 39. Reinstall the rear trim panel. COVER WASHER (4) COLLAR (4) (Apply butyl seal to the rubber on the cover washer.) COVER WASHER © 2001 American Honda Motor Co., Inc - All Rights Reserved. BII 22640 (0106) 9 of 12 Installing the CD Changer 40. Carefully unpack the CD changer. Remove the three shipping clips, and discard the shipping cover. Install an adhesive seal (included with the CD changer kit) over each of the three clips holes. Save the shipping clips for your customer in the event the unit needs to be serviced. Place the clips in the small plastic bag, and attach the bag to the CD changer BUS cable with a small wire tie. 43. Position the side brackets on the CD changer, and install the two 4 x 8 mm washer-screws for each side bracket. 4 x 8 mm WASHERSCREWS 4 x 8 mm WASHERSCREWS SHIPPING CLIP SHIPPING COVER (Discard.) SIDE BRACKET 44. Remove the adhesive backing from the carpet trim. SHIPPING SEAL CARPET TRIM (Remove the adhesive backing from the trim and attach it to the base bracket.) 6 x 14 mm WASHER-SCREWS 41. Visually check the position of the spring adjusting pin on both sides of the CD changer. If the spring adjusting pins are not in the vertical (V) position, move the pins to the vertical (V) position by sliding them up with an awl. SPRING ADJUSTING PIN (H: HORIZONTAL) SPRING ADJUSTING PINS (V: VERTICAL) CARPET TRIM LEFT LOCKING COVER (Included with CD Changer kit) ADHESIVE BACKINGS (Remove before installing the carpet trim.) RIGHT LOCKING COVER (Included with CD Changer kit) 42. Remove the adhesive backing from the “L” and “R” locking covers, and attach them to the sides of the CD changer. Align the diagonally opposite holes with the H and V positions. 10 of 12 BASE BRACKET (Using isopropyl alcohol, thoroughly clean the areas where they will contact the sub-brackets.) 45. Position the base bracket and the carpet trim on the sub-brackets, and install the four 6 x 14 mm washer-screws. Using isopropyl alcohol, thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the base bracket and the sub-brackets. BII 22640 (0106) © 2001 American Honda Motor Co., Inc - All Rights Reserved. 46. Connect the BUS cable connector to the CD changer connector, then wrap the EPT sealer around the connectors. 48. Place the CD changer cover over the CD changer. CD CHANGER COVER SHORT CAP NUTS CD CHANGER SIDE BRACKET CD CHANGER CONNECTOR STUD SIDE BRACKET BUS CABLE CONNECTOR BASE BRACKET 49. Plug the BUS cable connector into the rear of the audio unit. BUS CABLE EPT SEALER (Wrap around the connectors.) (Tuck under the base bracket.) ANTENNA LEAD VEHICLE CONNECTOR 47. Insert the studs from the base bracket into the holes in the side brackets, and install the four short cap nuts. Tighten the cap nuts securely. CENTER PANEL BOLTS 50. Plug the antenna lead and the vehicle connectors into the rear of the radio. 51. Slide the center panel into the radio opening, and secure it with the two bolts. Check that all wire harnesses and cables are routed properly and all connectors are plugged in. 53. Reinstall all removed parts. 54. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery. RADIO BUS CABLE CONNECTOR 55. Enter the customer’s radio anti-theft code, and reset the radio station presets. 56. Reset the clock. 57. Check the operation of the CD Changer according to the Owner’s Manual supplied with the unit. 58. Put the CD Changer Owner’s Manual in the glove box. NOTE: Whenever the battery is disconnected, the driver’s window AUTO function is disabled. ANTENNA LEAD VEHICLE 20-PIN CONNECTOR POCKET 59. Start the engine, Push down on the driver’s window switch until the window is fully open. 60. Pull up on the driver’s window switch to close the window completely, then hold the switch for a second or two more. 61. Test the AUTO window function.
