The Beocenter 9300 is a compact audio system that combines an FM/AM receiver, a tape recorder, and a compact disc player. You can operate the system from a distance using the Beo4 remote control (optional). The Beocenter 9300 has an FM/AM receiver, a tape recorder and a compact disc player. They can all be operated either close-up, or from a distance using the Beo4 remote control (optional). It will show you which source is playing and give you the exact operational status of the Beocenter. Tape cassettes are loaded on the left. Compact discs are loaded on the right. The lower Operation Panel comprises all the controls required to operate the Beocenter. They need only a very light touch to be activated. However, you will find that not all the controls are visible or accessible at any one time, they only appear when they are appropriate to the source you are playing. The first group or level of controls are accessible at all times. They are identified hy light grey print and are for selecting source, adjusting sound levels and programming. First level controls are pictured here in white. The controls in the second level only become accessible when you have made your choice from the first level. Only those appropriate to the source you are playing will light up. Note: The upper part of this illustration shows a sample display. The display will change with each operation. The controls in the third level will only become accessible when you have made your choice from the second level, Some controls are visible for a limited period of time (from 3 - 9 seconds). Beo4 remote control is optional and nota standard component of the system ADJUSTING AND SETTING SOUND LEVELS —9 You can adjust the bass and treble values, and alter the balance between your left and right speakers, to suit your personal taste. The Sound control on the Operation Panel gives access to all sound adjustments. Note: When you press the Sound control, make sure that the particular sound value you wish to adjust is cued on the upper Display Panel, before you press the sound arrows. A tiny red light indicates the centre point for bass, balance and treble. Volume increases from left to right: the maximum volume level is indicated by a full range of 15 striations. Treble adjustment | 3x Sound Gives access to treble More treble Less treble ШИ Balance Balance Balance 10 > Adjusting and setting sound levels Whenever the Beocenter 9300 1s switched on, the source selected will start playing at a preset sound level. You can adjust and preset this start-up level to suit your personal taste. The loudness function is used to compensate for the human ear’s lack of sensitivity to high and low frequencies when listening to low volume levels. It “boosts” the low and high frequencies so that the music becomes more dynamic. Before you start the preset operation, be sure your volume, bass, balance and treble are adjusted as desired. Note: The Beocenter will not start playing at a volume level exceeding 11 on the full range of 15 striations on the display. if you have preset a start- up level higher than that, it will disregard your instruction. 4 x Sound Gives access to the loudness function The Loudn cue will flash on the upper Display Panel == Cuts in the loudness function Now the Loudn cue glows constantly To cut out the loudness function, press = instead of =. The Loudn cue will revert to flashing intermittently, indicating that the loudness function is cut out. The system will automatically switch to mono if the stereo signals are not strong enough to produce an acceptable sound. However, you can, if you wish, overrule this automatic function and select mono or stereo manually. The tape will be rewound and playing will start immediately. se Finds the beginning of the tape If you want to find a specific track, just press the number of your choice. Press <{ or >» on the right-hand side of the Operation Panel to rewind or wind the tape quickly. You can step through the tracks, backwards or forwards, by pressing Search and then << or >> the number of times required to step to the track you want. The tape recorder automatically | reverses the tape at the end of the first side and within one second starts playing again. The tape side indicators on the display tell you which side you are on. The tape recorder will then conducta search, if necessary returning to the beginning of the tape. When it has found the track, it will start playing. Provided you haven't cut out the automatic tape reverse function, rewinding always means rewinding towards the start of Side 1, and winding towards the end of Side 2. Note: Pressing € only once takes you to the beginning of the track you are listening to. If you want to turn” the cassette to play the other side of the tape, press Turn. Before making a recording vou must decide whether vou want to use the noise reduction function (NR) — just as when vou play back a tape on the Beocenter 9300. Refer to the tape side indicators on the display and check that the current side is the side you want to record on. You can cancel the automatic tape reverse function so that the tape recorder will record only on the current side of the tape. Once you find the end of the last recording, press Stop on the right. Now press Record twice and then Stop on the left. The tape recorder inserts a blank of 3.5 seconds and is now in recording pause mode. You can now switch to the source you want to record from and start recording as usual. ® Passages of low music, i.e. lower than -25 dB, lasting more than 2.5 seconds will be registered as pauses. This means that the track numbers of your recording may not coincide with the track numbers of the source of your recording. The small numerical display in the right-hand side of the upper Display Panel allows you to check the number (time, day, month or year) you are keying in. TIMER PROGRAMMING Note: If you happen to make a mistake or change your mind while you are setting the clock, just touch the Programming control again ~ and start over. Note: The Beocenter has a built-in “calendar” - that is if you key in a false time, date or year, the small numerical display on the Beocenter will show a 7, prompting you to try again! The Beocenter memorizes up to 15 such programmings at a time. Note: If you happen to make a mistake or change your mind while you are keying in a programming, just touch the Programming control again ~ and start over. > See the next page for further information about the Timer programming function. This is to indicate that you must now select the source you want by pressing ane of the source controls (Radio, Tapet, CD) to the right on the Operation Panel. For recording only radio is available. Note: After pressing Radio, you must also select the radio program number you want using the red number controls. Start and stop times When you key in the times you want your programming to start and stop, the information "On” and TOM” appear in the small numerical display on the Display Panel: ® On... Indicates that you can key in the start time. ® (Off... Indicates that you can key in the stop time, The Beocenter has a 24 hour clock. This means that you must key in, for example, 22.15 for a guarter past 10 pm. Note: If you press the red stand-by control ® on the Beocenter just after pressing the Play control to start programming, you will only be able to key- in a stop time (Off). In this way you can program the Beocenter 9300 to switch off automatically at any time you specify (Once or On selected weekdays). “How often?” The Beocenter 9300 must be programmed to carry out your Timer Play or Timer Record instruction either "Once only” or "On selected weekdays™: * Once only... ls indicated by the information “Once”, which appears in the small numerical display on the Display Panel. You can then select a specific day within the next month (the calendar date 1-31 must be keyed in using the number keys). ® On selected weekdays... NICETO KNOW EE ‚а 4 From audio to video - or vice versa 35 Using the Beocenter 9300 ir a Local Control System Displayed cues and symbols 8 Which remote control NICE TO KNOW You can operate the Beocenter 9300 in conjunction with a Bang & Olufsen video system™ and thus obtain the benefits of an integrated audio/video system. You can then hear any source you like in the loudspeakers of either system. You can, for example, hear a music video through your audio speakers while watching it on the TV screen; vou can listen in with your audio speakers when the TV news is playing; or you can play the radio or any other source via your TV speakers. To operate your Bang & Olufsen audio/ video system you must use the remote control. * Note: Not all types of Bang & Olufsen video systems support audio/video integration. Please contact your Bang & Olufsen dealer for further information. All that is required for the integrated audio/video system to work is that your Bang & Olufsen audio and video systems are interconnected by a special link cable. The special link cable is available at your Bang & Olufsen dealer, who will also assist you with further information about audio/video integration. Audio/Video recording The sound you hear in the audio speakers can be recorded on the tape recorder in your Beocenter 9300. To do so, just follow the usual recording procedure. Likewise, the sound you hear in the TV speakers can be recorded on the video tape recorder - please refer to the User's guide for your video system. if only sound is heard in the TV speakers, that is if the TV screen is blank, you will record sound only; but if the sound is accompanied by pictures, the pictures will be recorded along with the sound produced by your Beocenter 9300 (simulcast recording). Note: A special recording lock function ensures that you cannot switch to another program while the recording 15 in progress. 35 The Bang & Olufsen Local Control System allows you to "take your system with you”. You can, if you like, operate the Beocenter using the Beolink 1000 remote control terminal instead. You can switch on the Beocenter 9300 by selecting any of the sources available: Radio, Tape 1, CD, Phono, Tape 2, Aux. To turn off the Beocenter, press the stand-by button.
You can adjust the volume using the two green arrows on the left-hand side of the Operation Panel. The arrow pointing up raises the volume, and the arrow pointing down lowers the volume. For temporary silence, press the Mute button.
To load a tape, press the Load Tape button. Place the tape with the tape band itself pointing towards you. To load a compact disc, press the Load CD button. Place the CD with the text side facing up.
To preset a radio station, first tune to the desired station. Then, press the Programming button, followed by the Store button. Key in the number on which you want to preset the station, and then press Store again.
To use the timer programming function, you must first set the clock to the correct time, date, and year. Then, press the Programming button, followed by the Play or Record button. Select the source you want, key in the start and stop times, and then select whether you want the programming to occur once only or on selected weekdays.
