a choice between electric and water batteries.
This series consists of ventilation units with heat
recovery from 300 to 700 m3/h. The units are
supplied with bosses on the top or on the sides.

Versions
Flexit air handling units are available in the
following versions:
- horizontal unit (L). Fitted with connection
nipples at the end for installation in technical
rooms, for example.
- cabinet unit (S). Fitted with connection nipples
on the top for installation in small technical
rooms, for example.
The units meet the requirements in EU Directives
89/336/EEC and 73/23/EEC.

Recovery Systems
Flexit uses two different recovery technologies:
1. Rotor
2. Cross exchanger
1. Rotor (Regenerative)
Flexit uses a non-hygroscopic rotor. i.e. the rotor
does not actively emit moisture into the supply
air. This form of recovery takes place as follows:
The rotor is a wheel that has a mass of aluminium
with many ducts. This wheel rotates so that
the mass absorbs heat from the extract air and
transfers the heat to the supply air. The rotor is
driven by a belt and a motor.
Unlike the cross exchanger, the rotor technology
has no practical problem with condensation and
icing up. Therefore drainage is not required.
The internal pressure ratio in the unit is designed
so that transfer of contaminants from the extract
air to the supply air is minimal. The rotor has a
cleaning sector that functions in such a way that
the rotor mass is “cleaned” with fresh air before
it supplies its heat to the supply air. Some of the

The cross exchanger is a cassette that consists
of a row of aluminium plates. Recovery takes
place as follows:
The extract air and supply air exchange heat
on separate sides of the aluminium plates. The
hot extract air heats the aluminium and the
cold outdoor air then absorbs the heat. As the
air flows pass on separate sides of the plates,
the extract air and the supply air will never
be in contact with each other. On account
its properties, this form of recovery involves
minimal transfer of contaminants, which, in turn,
means that it can be used in a wide range of
applications.
Using a cross exchanger, moisture may
be condensed out of the extract air. This
condensation must be drained away.
The temperature efficiency is approximately
60-70%.

Risk of Frost Using a Cross
Exchanger
When condensation is precipitated out of the
extract air at low outdoor temperatures, the
condensed water will begin to freeze in the
exchanger and after a while the exchanger will
ice up. To prevent the exchanger from icing
up, Flexit has solved this problem with the
development of the patented thermoguard
and can guarantee operation under all climatic
conditions including severe cold.

The thermoguard is placed inside the cross
exchanger at the coldest point and monitors
both temperature and humidity.
There is a risk of frost when:
1. Both humidity and cold are present
2. The outdoor temperature conditions mean that
there is a risk of dry ice in the exchanger cassette.

Project data
Deicing can be guaranteed by using a preheater.
During deicing, the automatic control will reduce
the air flow rate if the preheater is not able to
maintain the temperature in the cassette.
Compared with traditional frost monitoring
systems (which switch off the supply air fan at +1°,
regardless of whether humidity is present or not),
Flexit’s solution saves a lot of energy as the unit is
not operated unnecessarily in bypass mode.

relating to scrapped electrical and electronic
products and are, in this connection, subject to
an environmental tax. In connection with future
disposal, they can be delivered free of charge

Using a Capacity Diagram
the fan at each operating level in Watt. The power
consumption can be read off the scale to the right
of the diagram.
A diagram consists of a number of curves and
axes which allow various types of data to be read
off for the unit.
4. Sound curves (red)
These curves indicate values for the sound power
level LwA of the duct at the various operating
levels. To find the sound power level of the duct in
the various octave bands, take the value read off
in the diagram and correct it using the values in
the table below the diagram for each octave. This
produces the sound power level per octave.
1. Capacity curves (blue)
These curves indicate the total available pressure
and the air volume characteristic for the unit.
The available pressure is read off to the left of the
diagram.
The air volume is read off in m3/h at the bottom of
the diagram and in l/s at the top of the diagram.
The various curves indicate different settings on
the transformer.
5. Correction axis
Here you can read off the change in pressure when
a water battery is used for heating. This pressure
drop is deducted from the available pressure.
2. Operation curves (black)
These curves show how air flow rate and
pressure change at different operating levels.
On the same axis, you can read off the change in
pressure when an EU-5 filter is used. This pressure
increase is added to the available pressure.
3. Power consumption curves (green)
These curves indicate energy consumption for

Curve 1. Technical rooms without special
silencing. Typically boiler rooms or refrigerating
machine rooms with good space and hard wall
and ceiling surfaces.
Curve 2. Typically technical rooms where the
technical installations take up a lot of space.
Partially insulated ducts/pipes or silenced
surfaces.
Curve 3. Very well silenced rooms. A lot of
installations (not much space), insulated ducts/
pipes.
The curves apply to a minimum distance of
1.5-2.0 m. The diagram is based on a diffuse
sound field. In silenced rooms (curves 2 and 3),
the sound field is not diffuse. We therefore get
distance silencing. Table 1 is used to correct for
distance. Table 2 corrects for the location of the
unit.

General Product Description
Product Description
Flexit air handling units are designed to provide
optimal air comfort combined with low energy
consumption. The heated, used indoor air is
extracted via extraction valves from the rooms,
passes through a filter and is introduced into
the unit’s cross heat exchanger before being
conducted out of the building via a roof hat or
wall outlet.
Outdoor air is introduced via an outdoor air
intake to the unit, is filtered, passes through the
cross heat exchanger and absorbs a large part
of the heat from the extract air.
The extract air and supply air pass each other in
the exchanger cassette in completely separate
ducts without the clean air being “infected” by
the used, contaminated air. The thermostatcontrolled heating battery ensures a draughtfree supply air temperature. After the unit, the
supply air normally passes through silencers
before flowing in through the supply air valves,
fresh, clean and tempered.
Flexit air handling units are fitted with
electronic automatic control.
Area of Use, Horizontal Units
Flexit horizontal (L) air handling units are
suitable for homes for installation in the loft.
These aggregates are only supplied with cross
exchangers.

have been the aim.
Area of Use, Cabinet Units
The Flexit vertical (S) cabinet version can be
used to advantage for schools, nursery schools,
offices, shops, homes, etc. The cabinet and the
compact design mean that the units can be
used in both new and existing buildings. These
units are supplied with both cross exchangers
and rotating exchangers.
Design (S)
The units are produced in sheet steel, which
results in a robust, stable construction. The
walls are made of double-cased galvanised
sheet steel with thermal and acoustic
insulation. The connection bosses are on the
top. Externally, the units are lacquered white.
All joints are sealed to eliminate the risk of air
leakages. The units are fitted with two hinged
doors in the front which allow easy access for
inspection/service.

Design (L)
Flexit air handling units are produced in strong,
galvanised sheet steel, which produces a stable,
robust construction. The units are double-cased
with an intermediate 50 mm of rock wool, which
produces good thermal and acoustic insulation.
All joints are sealed to eliminate the risk of air
leakages. The units have inspection doors on

The cross exchanger is made of aluminium. The
heat exchanger is designed with secure sealing
against the various air chambers and can easily
be removed for cleaning and inspection. A unit
with a cross heat exchanger requires a drainage
system for condensation water.
General Product Description
Summer Cassette
Fans
A summer cassette is available as an accessory.
Single-suction radial fans with bent-forward
blades. The fans have a high capacity, even
with long duct sections, and have a low noise
level. The fans are driven by a ball bearingmounted outer rotor motor of the highest
quality. The motor, which is located in the fan
wheel, is cooled very well. The fans can easily
be removed for cleaning (“click” electrical
connection).
This can be used to replace the heat exchanger
during the warm part of the year.
Rotating Heat Exchanger
Flexit cabinet units can be supplied with rotating
recovery. The rotating heat exchanger is a nonhygroscopic aluminium rotor which is mounted in
a cassette. The entire cassette can be removed
from the units for service and cleaning. The rotor
wheel is mounted with maintenance-free dusttight ball bearings.
The rotor is driven in sequence with the heat
control by an electric motor via a drive belt.
Filters
The units are fitted with F7 filters on both the
intake and extract air sides. The F7 filter stops
97% of all particles greater than 0.5 my (1 my =
1/1000 mm), i.e. pollen, dust from combustion,
etc. This is a valuable property, in particular
for allergics and people with respiratory tract
problems.
The filters are located in rails and are easy to
replace.
Heating
In order to ensure that the supply air has the
correct temperature, the units are fitted with
heating. This is available in the form of electric
heating elements or water batteries.
The water batteries are controlled by a 0-10
V output which controls a 2-way or 3-way valve.
