Ne w Pr od uc tA nn o un c VR-MX em en Wide Dispersion Surround Loudspeaker t The VR-MX is the best surround speaker from Boston Acoustics. The VR-MX is designed to be used with our VR-M monitors and/or VR900 series loudspeakers, as well as with any high quality main loudspeaker. Its innovative shape produces a wide sound radiation pattern, making it ideally suited for all side wall, rear wall and ceiling locations. What makes the VR-MX unique is its ability to act either as a direct or diffuse field surround speaker—depending on the surround sound effect desired. Each individual VR-MX surround speaker employs two speaker baffles—one with an active woofer, and one with a passive radiator. When the baffle with the active woofer is pointed towards the listening area, the speaker produces a very direct sound with increased localization of the surround effects. When the speaker is mounted so that the passive radiator is facing the listening area, the entire sound field is more diffuse and the room seems larger—more like a movie theater or concert hall. Because each pair of VR-MX speakers is designed and manufactured as a mirror image set, reversing the effect is as simple as swapping the left and right speakers. Each VR-MX also employs two tweeters—one on each baffle—so that regardless of which way the speakers are oriented, the high frequencies always envelop the listener and remain widely dispersed. This speaker uses the same tweeter and same size woofer as our highly acclaimed VR-M50 bookshelf monitor, making it the perfect sonic match with other VR-M monitors. The output of the 5 1⁄4" (133mm) woofer is reinforced with a 51⁄4" passive radiator. This combination delivers powerful low frequency extension to 80Hz. The woofer/passive radiator combo is coupled with two of our patented, 1"(25mm) aluminum dome VR tweeters. This remarkable driver produces an extremely smooth, flat response well beyond the audible range. A diecast aluminum heatsink attached to the tweeter's backplate dissipates heat quickly and efficiently— assuring cool, trouble-free operation even at very high power levels. Available in real cherry wood with gray grilles, black wood veneer with black grilles, or all white, the VRMX maintains the unique appearance of the VR-M family. The cabinets are as functional as they are beautiful, featuring rigid construction and an integrated bracket with hardware that can be used for either wall or ceiling mounting. The VR-MX is designed and manufactured at our Peabody, MA facility, using state-ofthe-art design software, and is built on our own proprietary production lines. Like all Boston speakers it is built to exacting standards, widely re-spected as among the industry's tightest tolerances. Notice that the "DIRECT" and "DIFFUSE" arrows are pointing in opposite directions. This is because the speakers are configured as mirror imaged pairs. Positioning each VR-MX with the "DIFFUSE" arrow facing the listening area will yield a larger, more ambient surround effect. Positioning each VR-MX with the "DIRECT" arrow facing the listening area will yield a more focused sound with increased localization of the surround effects. Changing from “DIRECT” to “DIFFUSE” is as simple as swapping the speakers from one side of the room to the other. 11 ⁄ 16" 5 VR-MX Specifications FREQUENCY RESPONSE (±3dB) 80–20,000Hz RECOMMENDED AMPLIFIER POWER 15–200 watts NOMINAL IMPEDANCE 8 ohms SENSITIVITY [1 watt (2.83v) at 1m] 90dB BASS UNIT 5 1 ⁄ 4 " (133mm) copolymer TWEETERS Dual 1" (25mm) anodized aluminum dome PASSIVE RADIATOR 5 1 ⁄ 4 " (133mm) copolymer CROSSOVER FREQUENCY 2500Hz WEIGHT 9 lbs.
