1 INTRODUCTION
This document includes the general description and technical data of the KNT100V voltage converter
from FALCOM Wireless Communications GmbH .
1.1 General description
Vehicles normally use low voltage batteries (12 VDC and 24 VDC) to power the starter motor, the lights,
and the ignition system of a vehicle’s engine. In the automotive applications especially in trucks, voltage
spikes in the power supply can reach 100 volt. The KNT100V protects the AVL devices against such
voltage spikes. The KNT100V is a 12 VDC converter for use in trucks, busses, boats, to provide reliable
operation of FALCOM AVL devices even during the high voltage spikes. It allows you to safely run any
AVL device from the vehicle electrical bus by regulating the input voltage to the connected AVL device
to 12 VDC. The KNT100V converter has an input voltage rating from 24 VDC to 72 VDC and a fixed
output voltage of 12 VDC. For some AVL devices such as STEPPIII, FOX and BOLERO-LT devices, the
KNT100V voltage converter is built into the in-vehicle installation cable. While for the FOX-LT and FOXIN devices, the KNT100V voltage converter comes as a separate cable and must manually be connected
to the in-vehicle installation cable. For more details, refer to the figure 2 below for proper installation.

* The output voltage of the 12 V converter is switched on only when the input voltage is above 22 volts . Once the input
voltage drops below 18 V the output voltage converter shuts off.

1.3 How to connect the KNT100V voltage converter to an AVL device
For the STEPPIII, FOX and BOLERO-LT devices, the KNT100V voltage converter is already installed to the
IN+ and GND lines of the in-vehicle installation cable and you do not need to install or connect any
additional cable, just connect the in-vehicle installation cable to these devices as usually done. For the
FOX-LT and FOX-IN devices, the KNT100V voltage converter comes as a separate cable, which must be
connected manually to the in-vehicle installation cable by connecting both 8pin double row connectors
at the end of both cables. Please refer to the figure below for proper installation of this cable.
