1 Introduction
Latitude is now part of DVTEL’s United VMS platform, whose architecture is shared by the Horizon and
Meridian NVRs. Latitude NVMS version 6.4 reinforces DVTEL’s position as an industry leader in the IP
surveillance market and offers plenty of new features and benefits. Some of the highlights are:




Easy monitoring of all your VMS systems in real-time, concurrently, remotely, or locally over any
type of network
Real-time digital signatures ensure tamper-proof archiving and heightens data security
Export files via web client
Integrates the latest edge device models from DVTEL and third-party vendors
2 New Features
Scalability and Expandability among Systems
DVTEL’s United VMS platform includes Latitude, Horizon and Meridian, and allows you to scale your
installation easily. With version 6.4, users can easily launch ControlCenter and connect to any of these
systems and monitor them in real-time. Users can select which cameras to watch from a unified tree,
can easily search for and playback archived video, can receive and manage alarms when triggered, and
much more.
The United VMS platform enables you to fit the VMS solution to your site requirements. Expansion with
Horizon or Meridian NVRs to smaller sites is effortless if you have a Latitude system already installed at a
large site. Although each site is independent, all sites comprise a unified system which can be easily
monitored and managed once expansion is completed.
4|Page
Export via Web Client
Export capability enhances web client functionality. Users can export still images, as well as clip
segments, and choose between DVT and AVI video format output. Exported clips maintain video quality
and are digitally signed.
Tamper-Proof Archiving
Relax. Your data is secure with DVTEL. When tamper-proof archiving is enabled, data is digitally signed
in real-time. Each file is processed with SHA1 hash function and then encrypted with a 1024-bit RSA
encryption key. Moreover, user can authenticate each clip before playback to make sure that data
hasn’t been tampered with.
5|Page
Forced User-Logout
Latitude 6.4 now provides the systems administrator with the means to force user-logout. This capability
is most beneficial in cases where (a) the system administrator has to free a license in order to allow login
for other users and (b) in case there is a potential security breach. This function is also enforced by a
new user privilege and is audited in the database for future reporting purposes.
Increased Performance
Latitude infrastructure has been improved to meet enterprise-grade system requirements.



Faster login time
Recovery time post-failover directory has dramatically decreased
Directory can now handle 150 concurrent user connections
License Policy Change
The system now uses a single video channel license when attaching a camera in “Dual Scene” mode,
which creates a single camera per stream. In previous versions of Latitude, when “Dual Scene” mode
was enabled, the system required two video channel licenses.
End-to-End Solution with DVTEL Edge Devices
Latitude 6.4 supports all recently released DVTEL edge devices:






Quasar 4K
Quasar 30X PTZ
Ariel encoders
Ariel mini-dome and bullet
ioimage HD
ioimage thermal
*Supported via ONVIF only (no analytics)

Latitude: The Open Platform
2.8.1 Supporting New Third-Party Edge Devices
Latitude 6.4 offers optimal integration with third-party edge devices. This version integrates new
cameras from:



Pelco - Enhanced and Professional Series
Arecont - new cameras from SurroundVideo Omni, MicroDome, MegaDome, and MegaBall
series
Panasonic – new cameras integrated
This version supports the following new capabilities:



Pelco output relays
60 FPS for Sony edge devices
MJPEG compression for Sony Generation 5 and 6 edge devices
2.8.2 Support for New Immervision SDK
Latitude 6.4 supports Immervision SDK version 1.23.
This latest integration enables support for new third-party 3600 fisheye edge devices such as:


Arecont 3600 (AV5245)
Sony 3600 (SNC-HM662)
2.8.3 Improved ONVIF Integration
As ONVIF matures, the ONVIF plugin has become more robust and stable with Latitude having been
tested against new edge devices via ONVIF. Latitude now supports the following ONVIF capabilities:



More picture settings properties, such as Wide Dynamic Range control
Audio out (speaker)
Auxiliary commands (to control PTZ wiper for example)
NOTE: Even though these capabilities are now supported, they are not guaranteed to work with each
camera and require TCX certification.

Improved ControlCenter User Experience
2.9.1 Create Tile Layout from ControlCenter
Users can now easily create and customize layouts from ControlCenter. Before V. 6.4, users first had to
create a layout in AdminCenter and then configure it in ControlCenter.
2.9.2 “Draw Box to Zoom” Feature
Latitude improves the digital zoom user experience. Users can now draw a rectangle over a tile by using
the magnifying glass from the tile tool bar to zoom a specific region of interest.
8|Page
2.9.3 Easy Access to Exported Data
Users can now simply double-click the relevant exported raw data under the “Export Status” pane. This
will automatically open the file location in the file system.
2.9.4 ControlCenter Display Management
Users can now easily manage the ControlCenter display across multiple monitors. Users can select over
how many monitors ControlCenter will be displayed and which one will be used as the primary monitor.
This capability is most beneficial when user is distributing the ControlCenter display over video wall
monitors.
9|Page
2.9.5 Stretch Video to Fill Tile Size
Today, when displaying video in ControlCenter, the software maintains aspect ratio within the tile
boundaries. In many use cases, since there is a difference between the tile aspect ratio to the video
aspect ratio, there are black bars surrounding the video. In order to maximize video display (especially
attractive for video wall applications), we allow the user to set up in the workstation level (under
tools/options) if he would like to maintain aspect ratio. Moreover, the user can also control this feature
via a keyboard shortcut in real-time using SHIFT+R.

Keeping Up with Latest Technologies
1. We will move forward to .Net framework 4.5.2, which allows enhanced performance and
improves programming interfaces.
2. Latitude 6.4 supports SQL 2012 Service Pack 2. With fresh installations, SQL 2012 Service Pack 2
will be installed.
Additional Features
2.11.1 New Skin for AdminCenter
The new skin gives a clean, fresh look and feel to AdminCenter.
11 | P a g e
2.11.2 Mobile Middleware is Now Part of Latitude Server Core
There’s no need to install an additional plugin to connect mobile devices to Latitude systems. Before V.
6.4, it was necessary to install an additional plugin (Middleware) in order to support mobile devices
connected to Latitude. From 6.4, this component is part of the Latitude server core and can be
configured from AdminCenter under the Gateway server entity.
Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1 (64-bit) Support
Latitude NVMS 6.4 now runs on these new versions of Microsoft Server and client operating systems.
SDK Enhancements
Please refer to the ‘SDK release notes’ document.

3 Installation/Upgrade instructions
The installation files of the Latitude NVMS 6.4 software are provided by DVTEL in various forms, such as
USB sticks or FTP links. Installing Latitude NVMS 6.4 for the first time (fresh installation) and upgrading
from previous versions is done using the same installation file.
The supported direct upgrade paths for Latitude NVMS 6.4 are:


Latitude 6.3 (6.3.0.25)
Latitude 6.3 Camera Pack 1 (6.3.0.41)
Note: Please refer to ‘6.4 Installation instructions and clarifications’ document for further information.
