Owner’s Manual Please read completely before riding Thanks for Joining the VeloMini Family The VeloMini represents the latest technology in light-weight folding electric bicycles. y The powerful p 180 watt motor will transport p you y with speeds p up to12 mph without pedaling. It folds to 18 inches high and fits into its own carrying case. The VeloMini is powered by a Lithium-Ion battery hidden in the durable anodized aluminum frame. The VeloMini is the right electric bike for your life style. VeloMinis are small, light weight,versatile, convenient, and durable. The VeloMini is a true hybrid vehicle. It can be powered by the electric motor by pedaling or any combination of the two motor, two. For greater speed use the throttle, for hills and greater distance, combine pedaling and throttle. For exercise, turn the motor off and pedal. Please read the manual completely before riding the bike. Although your VeloMini will come with a partial charge, charge for best battery life charge it fully before your first ride. June 20, 2010. 3 4 Quick Assemblyy Guide Suggestion: Follow set-up instructions to assemble bike. Charge bike while reading balance of manual. If you are not experienced with bicycles, you may want to bring your VeloMini to a local bicycle shop for assembly and adjustments. 1. All VeloMini bikes come with a manual, carrying case, case charger charger, tool kit, kit and strap. strap 2. Remove all accessories and VeloMini from box. Open handle bar release 3, remove bubble wrap and spread handle bars 1 to fit into pp handle bar support. 10. Rotate handle bars 1 to get an angle you are comfortable with. Insert handle bars until line is about ½ inch out from handle bar support. 11. Push down on the handle bar release 3 to tighten handle bars into position. 7 12. If handle bars can still rotate or if the handle bar release cannot go down completely, open the handlebar release and adjust the handle bar adjustment nuts 5. Quick Assembly Guide con’t. con t. 13. Insert seat post 39 and ensure the seat height does not exceed the maximum seat height marker 40. 15. Using the wrench included in the tool kit insert pedal 26 and tighten firmly in a clock wise g other p pedal already y direction. Next tighten in crank. 14. Rotate the front protecting block 10 to be parallel with the seat frame so that it will rest on the seat tube when it is re-folded. 8 16. Plug charger into VeloMini and then plug into wall. A red light on the charger shows if the bike needs charging. When the light turns green and you have read the manual you are ready to ride. Certain conditions may cause the equipment to fail without fault of the manufacturer. Like other electric vehicles, the VeloMini can and is intended to move, and it is therefore possible to lose control, fall off and/or get into dangerous situations that no amount of care, instruction or expertise can eliminate. If such things occur, you can be seriously injured or die, even when using safety equipment and other precautions. RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK AND USE COMMON SENSE. This manual contains many warnings and cautions concerning the consequences of failing to maintain maintain, inspect or properly use your VeloMini VeloMini. Because any incident can result in serious injury or even death, we do not repeat the warning of potential serious injury or death each time such a possibility is mentioned. APPROPRIATE RIDER USE AND PARENTAL SUPERVISION This manual contains important safety information. It is your responsibility to review this information and make sure that all riders id understand d d allll warnings, i cautions, i iinstructions i and d safety f topics i and d assure especially i ll that h young riders id are able to safely and responsibly use this product. The manufacturer recommends that you periodically inspect your VeloMini and review and reinforce the information in this manual. The recommended rider age is 16 and older. Please check the laws in your area for electric bicycles and abide by y them. Any y rider unable to fit comfortablyy on the VeloMini should not attempt p to ride it. DO NOT EXCEED THE WEIGHT LIMIT OF 210 Pounds. Rider weight does not necessarily mean a person’s size is appropriate to fit or maintain control of the VeloMini. In most states electric bicycles are considered bicycles and not motorized vehicles. Your insurance may not provide coverage for theft or accidents. Contact your insurance company or agent for details on your policy. 9 ABLE RIDING PRACTICES AND CONDITIONS Always y check and obey y any y local laws or regulations g which may y affect the locations where the VeloMini mayy be used on public property. Ride defensively. Watch out for potential obstacles that could catch your wheel or force you to swerve suddenly or lose control. Be careful to avoid pedestrians, skaters, skateboards, scooters, bikes, children, animals or other obstructions that may enter your path, and respect the rights and property of others. Maintain a hold on the handlebars at all times with both hands. Never carry passengers or allow more than one person at a time to ride the VeloMini. Keep your fingers and other body parts away from the drive chain, steering system, wheels and all other moving components. Never use headphones, ear buds or a cell phone when riding. The VeloMini is intended for use on solid, dry surfaces such as pavement or level ground without loose debris such as rocks or gravel. Never use near steps or swimming pools. Wet, slick or uneven and rough surfaces may impair traction and contribute to possible accidents. Do not ride the VeloMini in mud, ice, rain, puddles or water. If you do ride at night make sure you have proper front and back lighting installed on the bike for viewing the road surface and for being seen by others. PROPER RIDING ATTIRE Always wear proper protective equipment such as an approved safety helmet. A helmet may be legally required by local law or regulation in your area. Always wear shoes, never drive barefooted or in sandals, and keep shoelaces tied and out of the way of the wheels, motor and drive system. USING THE CHARGER Use only with the recommended charger charger. The charger supplied with the VeloMini should be regularly examined for damage to the cord, plug, enclosure and other parts, and in the event of such damage, replace charger. Use caution when charging. The charger does have an auto turnoff feature. However do not leave it plugged for extended periods of time. Do not exceed charging time. The charger is not a toy. Charger should be operated by an adult. Do not operate charger near flammable materials. Unplug charger and disconnect from the battery operated product when not in use. Always disconnect from the charger prior to wiping down and cleaning your scooter with liquid. 10 Folding Instructions Suggestion: Follow these steps to making folding your VeloMini fast and easy. 3. Lift handle bar release 3, pull handle bars 1 out from handle bar release and fold in. Do not force the handle bars. 1. Loosen seat release 38 and extend until you can see the bottom of the post in the slit on the seat support frame 8. Tighten seat release 38. 2. Fold pedal 26 by pushing the pedal in towards the frame and pushing up or down. Repeat on other side. 11 4. Push handle bar release 3 down to hold handle bars in folded position. Do not force handle bar release down. If it will not go, open the th release l and d loosen the handle bar release nuts 5 under the handle bars. Try again and repeat process if necessary Folding Instructions con’t. con t. 7. Fold the seat support frame 8 down until it stops stops. Next fold the front frame 24 down until the front frame rests on the seat support frame. You may have to widen the p handle bars 1 to keep them from hitting the bike. For placing in carrying case, remove seat and post. 5. Pull out rear hinge pin 35 and fold rear support 36 just enough to keep the pin from locking in the safety channel. 8. Tighten quick release 25 and you are done. You can transport the bike by picking it up by the front frame at the VeloMini l logo, b by picking i ki up th the att the seat and wheeling it, by adding the carry strap to carry strap loop 6 and 13 or by putting in the supplied carry case. 6. After VeloMini is fully charged, press red button to turn on motor. 2. All three lights will be illuminated when fully charged. 3 3. Be ready for wheel spin on gravel, dirt, wet pavement or on a steep hill. Do not use power in a turn until you are used to the torque. 4. The VeloMini has four ways of propulsion: 1. On hard acceleration or up hill the green light will go out even if you have a full charge. As you are using the VeloMini the green light will eventually stay off and the yellow will be on. This shows you have about 1/2 power remaining. Once the yellow light stays off and the red light is on, the power is almost used and you should use motor as little as possible until you can recharge it. Always charge the battery as soon as possible once you have run it all the way down. 15 Maintenance & Charging • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Only use the charger supplied with the VeloMini. Any other charger will void the warranty. Check your local voltage to ensure it conforms with the charging voltage voltage. Attach the charger to the VeloMini first and then plug it into the charging source. The red light will appear during charging. The green light will appear upon full charge. When finished charging, unplug the charger from the socket first and then from the VeloMini. Keep charger away from combustibles and liquids. Do not cover it. Do not leave the battery discharged for longer than 24 hours since it will begin to degrade battery life. When storing the VeloMini, store with a fully charged battery in a dry cool location. For maximum battery life, charge the battery every couple of weeks. Do not expose the VeloMini to strong static electricity or magnetic fields fields. If the battery or motor becomes deformed, or smells, discontinue use immediately. The battery should take between 1-3 hours to charge. Avoid leaving the battery charger plugged in for longer than 12 hours at a time. The charger is designed for indoor use only. Keep the space between the VeloMini frame and the battery clean and dry. Never ride in water higher than the tires tires. Do not leave the VeloMini in the rain for an extended period of time time. Check tires regularly and ensure the pressure is maintained to 40lbs. Check and adjust brakes regularly. Every six months add lubricating oil to the chain. Clean frame with car wash or other mild soap. Dry VeloMini as soon as possible if it gets wet.
