55

How to set the time and date

● The calendar data, namely, the number of years since the last leap year and the current month and date, are pre-recorded at the factory, and it is not necessary to adjust the calendar. In case the calendar indication is not correct, check the calendar referring to

"How to check the calendar".

● The date changes correspondingly with the time. It changes once in 24 hours or can be changed manually by turning the hour hand two full circles. The date advances or returns by one day by advancing or turning back the hour hand past the 12 o'clock marker, respectively.

・The date changes between 11:45 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. while the watch is in operation.

・When the date is changed manually by turning the crown, it changes between 9:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. Once the desired date is set, however, the date changes properly between

11:45 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. while the watch is in operation.

57

① Pull out the crown to the second click.

If the crown is of the screw lock type, unscrew it by turning it counterclockwise, and then pull it to the second click.

* When the second hand is at the 12 o'clock position, pull out the crown to the second click. The second hand will stop on the spot.

② Turn the crown to set the hands to the desired time. If the indicated date is not correct, advance or turn back the hands until the correct date is shown, and then, set the time.

* When setting the hour hand, check that AM/PM is properly set. (The watch is so designed that the date changes once every 24 hours.)

* If AM/PM is set improperly, the date will change at noon.

[To set the time to the time between 9:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m.]

59

How to set the day display

(for models with the day display)

● The day display changes correspondingly with the time, and advances or moves back following the movement of hands. It can also be set by turning the crown.

When the date advances one day as the hour hand passes the 12 o'clock marker, the day also advances one day. When the date returns by one day as the hour hand in turned back to past the 12 o'clock marker, the day also returns by one day.

・When the hands are moving in the normal operation, the day display changes gradually between 11:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

・When setting the time by turning the crown, the day display changes between 11:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m.

① Pull out the crown to the first click after setting the time and date.

(If the crown is of the screw lock type, unscrew it by turning it counterclockwise, and pull it to the first click.)

60

② Turn the crown counterclockwise and set the day display to the desired day.

※Do not set the day between 11:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. Otherwise, the day may not change properly.

※The day display can be chosen in Japanese/English.

③ Push the crown back to the normal position.

(If the crown is of the screw lock type, turn it clockwise while presssing it to screw it completely.)

61

How to check the calendar (the number of years since the last leap year and the current month and date)

64

Intercalary second

(leap second)

Normally there are 86,400 seconds in a day. Due to a slight change in the earth's rotation, and extra second may be added to one day during the year. This is called the intercalary second. Every year the decision is made whether such an adjustment is needed. When the adjustment takes place, the standard time should be corrected by delaying the standard time one second. To keep your SEIKO watch accurate with the world standard time, adjust your watch to a time signal whenever such adjustment is made.

According to the information from the observatories all over the world, the standard time is delayed one second simultaneously throughout the world by the Greenwich Royal

Observatory.

In the Greenwich Mean Time, an extra second will be added to the one minute between

11:59 P.M. and 12:00 A.M. either on December 31st or on June 30th. In the Japan time, due to the time differential an extra second will be added to the one minute between 8:59 A.M. and 9:00 A.M.on January 1st or July 1st.

However, the adjustment may not be made in some years. Please, check by a newspaper, etc. whether such an adjustment will be made or not.

Condition of Use

Avoid drops of water or sweat

The watch withstands accidental contact with water in everyday life.

WARNING

Not suitable for swimming

The watch is suitable for sports such as swimming.

The watch is suitable for diving not using an air cylinder.

75

CAUTION

Do not leave moisture, sweat and dirt on the watch for a long time.

Be aware of a risk that a water resistant watch may lessen its water resistant performance because of deterioration of the adhesive on the glass or gasket, or the development of rust on stainless steel.

Do not wear the watch while taking a bath or a sauna.

Steam, soap or some components of a hot spring may accelerate the deterioration of water resistant performance of the watch.

Do not pour running water directly from faucet.

The water pressure of tap water from a faucet is high enough to degrade the water resistant performance of a water resistant watch for everyday life.

77

Magnetic resistance

(affect of magnetic field)

Affected by nearby magnetism, a quartz watch may temporarily gain or lose time or stop operating.

※This defective condition caused by magnetism will be corrected soon after the watch is

78

Band

(maintenance procedure)

The band touches the skin directly and becomes dirty with sweat or dust.

Therefore, lack of care may accelerate deterioration of the band or cause skin irritation or stain on the sleeve edge. The watch requires a lot of attention for long usage.

80

Metallic band

Moisture, sweat or soil will cause rust even on a stainless steel band if they are left for a long time.

○ Lack of care may cause a yellowish or gold stain on the lower sleeve edge of shirts.

Wipe off moisture, sweat or soil with a soft cloth as soon as possible

To clean the soil around the joint gaps of the band, wipe it out in water and then brush it

  off with a soft toothbrush.

(Protect the watch body from water splashes by wrapping it up in plastic wrap etc.)

Leather band

○ A leather band is susceptible to discoloration and deterioration from moisture, sweat and

  direct sunlight.

Wipe off moisture and sweat as soon as possible by gently blotting them up with a dry cloth.

○ Do not expose the watch to direct sunlight for a long time.

○ Please take care when wearing a watch with light-colored band, as dirt is likely to show up.

The reason why analogue quartz watch is affected by magnetism.

It is because the built-in motor of the watch, which harnesses magnetic power and external strong magnetism, affect each other to stop the motor or suppresses the turn of the motor.

79

○ Refrain from wearing a leather band watch other than Aqua Free bands while bathing, swimming,

and when working with water even if the watch itself is water-resistant enforced for daily use

(10-BAR water resistant).

Polyurethane band

○ A polyurethane band is susceptible to discoloration from light, and may be deteriorated by solvent or atmospheric humidity.

○ Especially a translucent, white, or pale colored band easily adsorbs other colors,

resulting in color smears or discoloration.

○ Wash out dirt in water and clean it off with a dry cloth.

(Protect the watch body from water splashes by wrapping it up in plastic wrap etc.)

○ When the band becomes less flexible or cracked, replace the band with a new one.

Notes on skin irritation and allergy

Notes on the length of the band

Skin irritation caused by a band has various reasons such as allergy to metals or leathers, or skin reactions against friction on dust or the band itself.

Notes on the battery

(1) Battery life

When a new normal battery is installed, the watch will operate for approximately 10 years.

*If the watch is used in the following conditions, however, the battery life may be less than the specified period.

1. When the crown is left at the first or second click for a long time

2. When the calendar is checked frequently

3. When the watch is left in a temperature below +5℃ or above +35℃ for a long time

(2) Monitor battery

The battery in your watch is inserted at the factory to check the function and performance of the watch, and its actual life may be less than the specified period.

(3) Battery life indicator function

When the second hand starts moving at two-second intervals, the watch may run down in about two weeks. In that case, please take your watch to a retailer from whom the watch was purchased as soon as possible to replace the battery with a new one.

*The time accuracy is not affected even if the second hand is moving at two-second intervals. The date will not change while this happens, but this is not a malfunction.

*If the watch is left in low temperatures for a long time, the performance of the battery deteriorates temporarily. As a result, the second hand starts moving at two-second intervals and the date will not change even when the battery has energy to power the watch.

When the watch returns to the normal temperature range between 5℃ and 35℃, the second hand resumes the normal one-second interval movement and the date adjusts itself within one day as the battery recovers the normal performance.

If the two-second interval movement persists and the date will not change in the normal temperature range, the battery nears its end, and replace it with a new one as soon as possible.

88

(4) Battery replacement

1. The perpetual calendar controls the date display on the basis of the calendar data recorded in a built-in IC.

When the battery runs down, the calendar data is retained by the auxiliary power supply, and normally, it is not necessary to correct the calendar data after battery change. If the watch is left untouched for a long time with a dead battery, however, the energy of the auxiliary power supply may also be depleted. It is recommended, therefore, that the battery be replaced with a new one as soon as you find the second hand moving at twosecond intervals.

2. For battery replacement, be sure to have the battery replaced with a new one by the retailer from whom the watch is purchased or at an authorized SEIKO DEALER, and requesting the battery replacement, please specify the genuine SEIKO SB battery.

3. If the old battery is left in the watch for a long time, a malfunction may be caused due to battery leakage, etc. Have it replaced with a new one as soon as possible.

4. Battery replacement will be made at cost even within the guarantee period.

5. Once the case back is opened for battery replacement or other purposes, the original water resistant quality designed for the watch may deteriorate when it is closed. When you have the battery replaced with a new one, also request the water resistance test pertaining to the water resistant quality of your watch. If your watch has 10-bar or higher water resistant quality, be sure to have such test performed on the watch every time the battery is replaced.

Please note that it takes several days to check the water resistant quality of your watch.

When requesting the checking, therefore, please check the period required for it.

*After the battery is replaced with a new one, check the calendar, referring to "How to check the calendar".

Lumibrite

[If your watch has lumibrite]

LumiBrite is a luminous paint that is completely harmless to human beings and natural environment, containing no noxious materials such as radioactive substance.

LumiBrite is a newly-developed luminous paint that absorbs the light energy of the sunlight and lighting apparatus in a short time and stores it to emit light in the dark.

For example, if exposed to a light of more than 500 lux for approximately 10 minutes,

LumiBrite can emit light for 5 to 8 hours. Please note, however, that, as LumiBrite emits the light it stores, the luminance level of the light decreases gradually over time. The duration of the emitted light may also differ slightly depending on such factors as the brightness of the place where the watch is exposed to light and the distance from the light source to the watch.
