WATCH PRECISION
POWER RESERVE
A mechanical movement, whether manual or automatic (self-winding), is a complex assembly of
gears, gear trains and other components often not
much bigger than a single strand of hair.
A watch’s precision is determined by the spiral balance wheel, the heart of the watch, which regulates
the rate of time through its oscillations.
Oscillation frequency varies depending on the model and can be anywhere between 2.5 and 4 Hz.
A hand indicates how much of the watch’s power
supply remains (for both self-winding and handwound watches).
It is important to keep in mind that despite careful
maintenance of the movement and the watch itself,
rate variations may still occur. This is mostly caused
by a variety of factors including impact, the aging of
the oils, significant temperature fluctuations, magnetic fields and wearer activity.
DUAL TIME FUNCTION
A watch equipped with a dual time complication is
able to indicate a “2nd time zone”. This second time
can be read on a central hand or a hand located in a
graduated dial.
CHRONOGRAPH
A chronograph is a watch which can measure
a period of elapsed time. A chronograph model
generally also contains a central seconds-hand
for counting seconds, a counter for totaling minutes and another for totaling hours.
In general and depending on the model, your watch
time may vary by 1 to 2 minutes per week.
3
FLYBACK
MOON PHASE
The flyback function means exactly what it says, to
“fly backward”: it allows the wearer to move from
one chronograph reading to another in a single button push instead of three.
Watches with a moon-phase complication display
the cycles of the moon on their dial (first quarter,
full moon…). Moon phases are generally displayed
using a moving disk which makes one rotation every
lunar month (29 and one half day).
TACHYMETER
Scale used to measure speed in km/h. Start the
chronograph, walk or run exactly 1 km from your
point of departure. Look at the dial of your watch,
the seconds-hand uses the “tachymeter scale” to
indicate your speed in km/h for the kilometer you
just traveled.
RETROGRADE DISPLAY
A display is considered retrograde when one of the
hands (the retrograde hand) moves backward after
having reached its final mark and then begins the
cycle again.
ANNUAL CALENDAR
TELEMETER
Scale used to measure the distance separating an
observer from a phenomenon which is first visible
and then audible. Its graduation is based on the
speed of sound (343 m/s).
For example, to determine a storm’s distance from
the wearer, start the chronograph at the first appearance of lightning; then stop it when the thunder
can be heard.
Look at the dial of your watch, the seconds-hand
uses the “telemetric scale” to indicate the distance
separating you from the place where the lightning
occurred.
4
Annual calendar is a movement function which handles the difference between 30 and 31-day months
automatically, without a manual date adjustment.
Only one adjustment per year is needed, at the end
of February.
JUMPING HOUR
Movement in which a disk numbered from 1 to 12
replaces the hour hand. The disk appears in an
aperture and instantly (jumps) to the next number
upon the hour.

II USER GUIDE
This guide explains all the functions available for
different Baume & Mercier watch models.
To adjust your watch, please refer to the inside cover
of this guide and the diagram which most closely resembles your watch dial. Then follow the directions
corresponding to your model.
Your Baume & Mercier watch may come with a
screw-down crown. If so, you must first unlock the
screw-down crown by turning it counter-clockwise
before adjusting the date or the time or winding the
watch.
Once you have finished adjusting your watch, press
lightly on the crown while turning gently clockwise,
tightening it down again until you feel some resistance. If the crown is not correctly screwed-down
and locked, your watch may not be completely water-resistant.
Xx These icons refer to the watch diagrams located
on the inside cover of this guide.
A. BASIC FUNCTIONS
WINDING
Hand-wound mechanical watch
Crown in Position 1: turn crown clockwise.
The watch is fully wound when the crown can no
longer be turned.
Warning: do not turn beyond its pre-determined
blocking point, otherwise you may damage the
movement.
A mechanical watch has a power reserve of about
40 hours 1h . We recommend you wind it once a day.
Self-winding mechanical watch
A watch equipped with an automatic winding mechanism automatically winds itself throughout the day
as you move your wrist.
Because of this, the watchband must be correctly
fitted to the wearer’s wrist. If the watchband is too
loose, the watch may not wind itself correctly. For
optimal winding, wear your watch daily.
Before wearing your watch, you must wind it manually. To do this, set to Position 1 and then turn the
crown clockwise approximately 20 to 30 turns.
5
After wearing your watch for several hours, depending on your activity level, the watch will be perfectly
wound.
You must also wind your watch manually if you do
not wear it for more than 40 hours. Once completely
wound, your watch has a power reserve of approximately:
– 40 hours 1a 1b 1c 1d 1e 1f 1g 2a 2b
– 48 hours 3a 3b 3c 3d 3e 3f
– 65 hours 3g
POWER RESERVE
1b 1f 1g
For models with a power reserve indicator, the hand
indicates, on a scale which may vary per model, the
amount of time remaining until the watch must be
wound again. When the watch is entirely wound, the
indicator sits at its maximum position.

the watch packaging to make any adjustments.
For months with less than 31 days, the date must be
changed manually at the end of the month.
Set the crown in Position 2, then turn it clockwise
to set the second time zone hand (D) at the desired
time.
WARNING:
In order to prevent damage to the movement,
it is extremely important that you do not use

R E CO M M E N DAT I O N S A N D CA R E
Your Baume & Mercier watch was both designed
and manufactured with great care. It contains a
great number of very delicate components, which
is why we encourage you to be careful, avoid any
impact to the watch as well as keep it away from
extreme conditions.
Furthermore, a watch is something rare in that it
works continuously, 24 hours a day. For optimal reliability and for the longevity of your watch, we recommend the following maintenance schedule:
ì $5HJXODU0DLQWHQDQFHDGMXVWPHQWHYHU\WR
years.
ì $&RPSOHWH6HUYLFHHYHU\\HDUV
DAY-TO-DAY CARE
To preserve the brilliance of both your watch and its
metal bracelet, if necessary, we recommend you
brush it gently using a soft brush (a soft toothbrush,
for example) and warm soapy water. When you have
finished, rinse it carefully with fresh water and dry it
with a soft cloth. The same cleaning is recommended
after swimming with your watch in the ocean or a
swimming pool.
Before cleaning your watch, make certain that the
crown is tightly closed (pressed or screwed-down,
depending on the model).
LEATHER STRAP
Furthermore, to safeguard your watch please read
the following recommendations for use and care:
The life span of a leather strap depends on how
often it is worn and under what conditions.
To protect your leather strap for as long as
possible, we recommend you keep it away from
water, humidity, oils and cosmetics, and avoid
prolonged exposure to sunlight.
We recommend you have your leather strap
changed by a Baume & Mercier agent. The
agent will be able to offer you an array of leather straps perfectly suited to your watch.
11
RUBBER STRAP
WATER-RESISTANCE
The life span of a rubber strap depends on how often it has been worn and under what conditions. To
conserve your rubber strap for as long as possible,
we recommend you keep it away from oils and cosmetics and avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight.
Furthermore, you may clean your rubber strap with
soapy water.
Baume & Mercier watches are water-resistant up to
at least 30 meters. If a model’s water-resistance goes
beyond 30 meters, the depth is indicated on the back
of the case.
When a watch is water-resistant its movement is protected from dust, humidity and any risk of damage
caused by immersion.
We recommend you have your rubber strap changed
by a Baume & Mercier agent. The agent will be able
to offer you an array of rubber straps perfectly
suited to your watch.
The water-resistance of a watch comes from its joints.
Because these joints are exposed to different types of
external stress (cosmetics, perspiration, temperature
changes), your watch may become less water-resistant with time. As a consequence, we recommend you
have your watch checked every 12 months to guarantee
it remains fully water-resistant.
MECHANICAL WATCH MAINTENANCE
In the event that your watch will not be worn for
several months, we recommend you wind your
mechanical watch regularly so that the oils do not
seize, thus disrupting proper functioning of the
movement.
IMPORTANT:
When your watch is submerged in water, do
not pull on the crown or press any of the pushbuttons to adjust the date, the hour or any other function because water may enter the case.
If you notice any condensation inside your watch,
you must take it immediately to a Baume & Mercier After-Sales Service Counter or an approved
Baume & Mercier agent.
12
English
CHEMICALS
Avoid direct contact with any solvents, detergents,
perfumes or cosmetic products which may damage
the bracelet, the case or the joints.
MAGNETIC FIELDS
Our environment experiences increasing levels of
disturbances caused by magnetic sources. These
disturbances may affect the proper functioning of
your watch.
A mechanical watch is sensitive to strong magnetic
fields. In certain cases, a disturbance may magnetize the steel components inside the movement,
especially the spiral spring. Certain components
could become attracted to one another causing the
watch to suddenly jump forward and then stop. If
this happens, the watch needs to be de-magnetized
by an authorized Baume & Mercier after-sales service center.
TEMPERATURE
We recommend avoiding extreme temperatures as
well as any sharp temperature fluctuations.
BAUME & MERCIER AUTHORIZED
AFTER-SALES SERVICE CENTERS
Baume & Mercier watches are maintained by an
international network of After-Sales Service Centers which meet the highest quality requirements of
Swiss luxury watchmaking.
Approved through a demanding selection process,
only a Baume & Mercier endorsed agent or AfterSales Service Center is authorized to adjust or repair your watch.

Any repair work not carried out by a Baume & Mercier

required by Baume & Mercier.
