∙ Caution: keep any packaging materials well away from children, as such materials are a potential source of danger e.g. from suffocation.
∙ Before the appliance is used, the main

∙ The power cord should be regularly examined for any signs of damage. In the event of such damage being found, the appliance must no longer be used.
∙ Do not operate the appliance if excessive force has been used to pull the power cord. Damage cannot always be detected from the outside; the entire unit should therefore be checked by a qualifi ed technician before it is used again.
∙ Do not leave the water kettle unattended during operation. Use only pure water when fi lling the container to the desired level, observing the Min. and Max. markings. Overfi lling the container may cause danger from boiling water being forced out.
∙ Also beware of the danger of scalding
from hot steam being emitted.
Therefore, do not touch any parts of the appliance except the handle during use.

The address can be found in the appendix to this manual.
Thermal safety cut-out
The preset thermal safety cut-out protects the heating element from overheating should the appliance be erroneously switched on without any water, or if the heating element is calcifi ed. Once the safety cut-out has
9
switched off the kettle, it must be allowed to cool down suffi ciently, or must be descaled before it is switched on again.
Safety lid
The safety lid greatly reduces the risk of hot water escaping if the container is accidentally knocked over on the work surface. In the event of it falling from a certain height, however, it is possible hot water might escape from the lid. After any accident of this kind, be sure to check for any signs of damage. The appliance must always be supervised when in use.
Before using for the fi rst time
To clean the kettle, boil and discard the fi rst fi lling of water.
Boiling water
∙ Remove the water container from its base.
∙ Push the locking tabs together and remove the water container lid.
∙ Fill the container with water to the desired level, observing the Min. and Max. markings.
∙ Push the locking tabs together again and replace the lid, ensuring that it is properly fi tted.
∙ Place the container back on its base.
∙ Insert the plug into a suitable wall socket and press the On/Off switch; the indicator light comes on.
∙ The boiling process begins. After reaching the boiling point, the appliance is automatically switched off by the integral steam cut-off device. The pilot light goes out.
∙ To interrupt the boiling process, set the
On/Off switch to its Off position.
10
∙ To pour hot water, remove the container from its base.
∙ To prevent hot steam from being emitted, ensure that the lid remains closed while pouring out the water.
∙ Remove the plug from the wall outlet after use.
∙ Do not leave any residual water in the container.
Power cord wind-up storage
The wind-up power cord storage under the base facilitates limiting the length of the power cord during use and makes it easy to store the appliance.
Descaling
Depending on the water quality in your area, lime deposits may build up inside the water container. It is advisable to remove any such deposits at regular intervals. Any warranty claim will be null and void if the kettle malfunctions because of insuffi cient
descaling. A mixture of 0.5 litres of water to two tablespoons of vinegar essence is suitable.
∙ Pour the descaler in.
∙ Switch the appliance on and let the solution reach boiling point.
∙ Leave it to take effect for a short period.
∙ To clean the container after descaling, rinse thoroughly with clean water.
∙ Do not pour descalers down enamelcoated sinks.
General cleaning and care
∙ Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.
∙ To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the kettle and the base with water
and do not immerse them in water. Do not clean under running water.
∙ For cleaning, a slightly damp, lint-free cloth may be used.
∙ Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning solutions, and do not use hard brushes for cleaning.
