PeerWise Demo Instructions
In this demo you will access PeerWise from a student’s perspective. You will answer
questions created by other students and formulate questions for other students to
answer. You can also add comments, rate questions, earn badges, and follow the
leaderboard.

Access
Start by visiting PeerWise here: http://peerwise.cs.auckland.ac.nz/at/?unb_ca
If you have not used PeerWise at UNB before:
Click the "Registration" link and follow the prompts. All you need to do is choose a
username and password for your PeerWise account.
*If you wish for your questions to be anonymous, do not include any self-identifying
information in your username.
To access the demo course, "Instructional Tech Lab Demo", you will need to enter
two pieces of information:
1) Course ID = 8154
2) Identifier = Please enter a number between 100 and 299 to uniquely identify
you in the course (for instructor use only).
*If you attempt to register using an identifier that has been selected by someone
else, you will receive an error. Just try inputting another number.
**In your own PeerWise course you will ask students to input their student ID
number.
Now login.
If you have used PeerWise at UNB before:
Simply log in and then select "Join course" from the Home menu.
To access the demo course, "Instructional Tech Lab Demo", you will need to enter

Try-It!
Ask and answer questions at your leisure or follow the guide below for step-by-step
instructions on how to answer and pose questions.
Login and click Instructional Tech Lab Demo under Your courses.
1. Answer Questions
1A. Beneath the heading Unanswered Questions click View.
1B. All the questions will be displayed. As seen below.
1C. Click the number of a question you would like to answer (click 1)
1D. Read the question and the alternatives. Click on the letter that you believe is
correct.
1E. If your answer is the same as the author it will be displayed.
1F. The alternatives will be displayed along with the percentage of students who
responded to each alternative on their first try.
Click confirm answer or change answer as you see fit.
1G. If you have an issue with the question or feedback for the author, click Write a
new comment. Write the comment and click Save comment.
1H. Now rate the question based on Difficulty (click Easy, Medium or Hard), and
Quality (click 0-5). Click Submit rating and return to question list.
1I. Repeat steps 1C-1H.
2. Pose Questions
2A. Click View beneath the heading “Your questions”. (From Main menu)
2B. Click Create new question.
2C. In the space provided, enter your question. Scroll Down.
2D. Enter up to 5 alternative answers. Each next to a letter.
2E. Click the Select button next to the letter with the correct response. Scroll down.
2F. Enter an Explanation for the correct answer. You may also wish to include the
reason why the other alternatives are wrong. Scroll Down.
2G. Check next to the appropriate topic so your question will be searchable. Scroll
Down.
2F. Click Show me a preview of this question.
2G. If your question is ready to share, click Save question.
3. Earn Badges
As you write and answer questions you will receive badges. New badges can be
found from the main menu.
That banner will only appear when you earn a new badge.
3A. Click View my badges from the bottom of the page.
3B. There are 3 types of badges:
Basic badges are easy to earn but most of them can only be earned once.
Standard badges are slightly more difficult to earn although some of them can be earned
multiple times.
Elite badges are generally more challenging to earn, and some are quite difficult!
You will see the number of people who have earned each badge, and which badges you
have earned.
At the bottom of the page there is a chart that will show where you stand in
comparison to the other students in the class, in terms of earning badges.
3C. Scroll back to the top and click Main Menu.
4. Follow the Leaderboard
4A. Click View leaderboards at the bottom of the page.
View information on usage, included students who have contributed or answered
questions, total number of questions, total number of answers, find top rated questions
and your usage information.
